Water is an important ingredient for every living thing to not only survive but also to thrive and flourish. If plants are not watered properly they will not produce fruit as expected and if the condition continued it will soon whither and die.

Once we moved to a house where there were many lime and lemon trees. They used to bloom and produce small fruits. But most of the fruits would fall away before it reached to maturity. Why, it puzzled us greatly. Finally we started to take care of those plants watering them regularly. After that, fruits started to grow and did not fall away.

Water plays a major role in our spiritual lives too. Jesus said in John 7:38, "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." Holy Spirit is called the living water. Jesus was talking to a Samaritan woman in John 4th chapter. We read in John 4:10, Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." Again Jesus said in John 4:13-14, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

Many surrender their lives to Jesus, but we do not see them thriving and flourishing as promised by Jesus. Many of them never reach to perfection as their spiritual power is exhausted before they reach to maturity. This can be prevented by yielding to the Holy Spirit. Are you a saved person? You need to be filled with Holy Spirit in your life. Jesus said in John 6:63, "It is the Spirit who gives life..." Jesus also said in John 10:10, "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

Who can receive Holy Spirit? Bible tells us in Acts 8:14-17, "Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit."

Those who received the word of God, that is, those who accepted Jesus in their lives, were eligible to receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 9th chapter talks about the dramatic conversion of Paul when he met Jesus on the way to Damascus. Yet he did not receive Holy Spirit at that time, but later on when the prophet Ananias laid his hands on him and prayed he was filled with Holy Spirit as we read in Acts 9:17, And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

A similar phenomenon can be found in Acts 19:1-7, "And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism." Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. Now the men were about twelve in all."

Are you a saved person? Have you received the Holy Spirit when you believed? If not, ask Jesus and He will fill you with His Holy Spirit just as He did to those new believers in the time of Bible. When Holy Spirit will come into your life, He will make your life blessed and flourishing.

Should We Worship Mary?

By Sherly Isaac

Should we worship Mary? Are we to pray to Mary? Many do have these types of questions in their mind. Let us look into the criteria for worshipping and what the attributes of God are?

We worship God because He is our Creator, sustainer, provider and everything. God is the supreme being who unlike men or devil, is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent.

God is Omniscient

God knows everything while our knowledge is limited. We do not know what is going to happen in the next moment, the next day or in future, but God knows everything. When Jesus was in this world, He showed such extraordinary unusual knowledge in His ministry and also in His life.

But if we look at the life of Mary, we see that she did not show any sign of having this knowledge. In Luke 1:27 - 33 we read about Mary. She was an ordinary girl who was betrothed to Joseph. Then an angel appears to her and says, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" She was troubled seeing the angel and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end."

She further asks the angel in Luke 1:34, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?"
Luke 1:35-38 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible." Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her."

In her conversation with the angel we can clearly understand that she knew nothing about Jesus' birth until the angel told her. And in 38th verse she says, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word."

There were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. An angel of the Lord and heavenly hosts appeared to them and proclaimed about the birth of Jesus. When those shepherds reached the place they saw exactly as described by the angel. Bible says in Luke 2:17-19, "Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart."

Luke 2:25-35 Simeon prophesied about the life and the cruel death of Jesus. When Joseph and Mary heard those things they marveled as it is written in Luke 2:33, "And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him."

Again we see another incident in Luke 2:41-48 where Bible tells us that, Jesus' parents went to Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover when Jesus was twelve years old and when they were returning after the feast, after three days they could not find Jesus with them. They went back in search for Him and finally when they found Him Bible says in Luke 2:48 that they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously."

It is true that she was a highly favored, blessed and righteous woman in the sight of God and God chose her for the very purpose to bring Christ the Lord into this world but she was not omniscient.

God is Omnipotent

Bible tells us that God is all-powerful and that there is nothing impossible with Him. Jesus demonstrated this unique power in His life while He was in this world. Not only that, we see that the whole of Old and New Testaments are full of mighty deeds of God. Time and time again He did mighty miracles in the lives of people.

When we look at the life of Mary, we do not see as if she was having all-power. She was just a regular woman. After Jesus' ascension to heaven, the disciples and others were praying with one accord. She was also one of them who were praying to receive the Holy Spirit as we read in Acts 1:12-14, "Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers."

God is Omnipresent:
God can be present in more than one place at the same time. When we read Bible, we do not see any such quality in the life of Mary.

So what is the conclusion?

Once Paul and Barnabas were in Lystra. Bible says in Acts 14:8-15, "And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother's womb, who had never walked. This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, "Stand up straight on your feet!" And he leaped and walked. Now when the people saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!" And Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. Then the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, intending to sacrifice with the multitudes. But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard this, they tore their clothes and ran in among the multitude, crying out and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them."

When one miracle was done through Paul and Barnabas, people thought that God had come down in their midst. They brought sacrifice material but Barnabas and Paul heard about it, they cried out and said, "Men why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them."

Men are men and God is God. He commanded us in Exo 20:3-6, "You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments." Also in Exo 34:14 '(for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God). No human being can take the place of God. Let us bow down before the almighty God and worship Him alone.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
