This is the time of the year when we share our joy with family and friends and thank God for the blessings He has poured in our lives. This is the time when joy and happiness fills the atmosphere. But there are families who are suffering, there are broken lives. Many do not know where to turn to when tragedy strikes, when sorrows hit them. Our face reflects our condition as it is written in Prov 15:13, “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”

Bible tells us about the response of the Israelites when God brought them out of Egypt and when they were in the wilderness where from time and time again they had to go through hardship. But their reaction to those problems was so disheartening that it really upset God and Moses. All through their journey they were murmuring against God and Moses until they lost their own lives. Murmuring brings no blessings in our lives. Have you seen people who never smile, but always having a stern face? Even associating with such people would make us gloomy and grim. That’s what a murmuring spirit does to us but a joyful person would make our day. What a difference it makes when we praise God for His blessings. Bible tells us again and again that many who praised God, won their battles, came out of their troubles and sicknesses and were victorious in their lives.

I heard of a person who was working in an office. His boss was really bossy. This man loved the Lord with all his heart. But his office hours were very difficult and disgusting for him because his boss would never speak anything without shouting. At times he thought of leaving his job but when he prayed, God told him to stay in the same place. Days and months passed by and his condition did not improve. Instead it deteriorated. One night he broke down before God and said, “Lord, I have served you so faithfully but how long am I to continue like this? I can’t handle it anymore….” He cried bitterly. God said, “Don’t worry about your problems, I will take care of it.” Next day morning when he went to the office, he was completely surprised because there was no shouting but complete calm. He asked what’s the matter? He was told that his boss was fired over night. The real surprise was that he was promoted and posted in the place of his boss. He could not believe what he heard but God Himself turned the table around.

When we give our worries and pains to Jesus, He takes care of it and makes us happy. He is a God who delivers us from all our troubles. Psalmist says in Psa 30:11-12, “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”

How could we have perfect joy in our lives? Jesus said in John 15:9-11, "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

Jesus loved us so much that He gave His life for us so that we could rejoice and live a happy life. His precious blood is still flowing for our salvation, for the remission of our sins. By submitting our life, our sins and our addictions to Jesus, we can get a new life full of peace and joy. And if we love Him and remain in Him and obey His commandments, He will fill us with unending joy. We can rejoice as the psalmist says in Psa 16:11, “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

We wish our readers a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day and joyous holidays. May the good Lord bless us all with happy times.

O, Give Thanks to the Lord at All Times!

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in 1 Th 5:18, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” No matter what could be the situation, we need to give thanks to God always. In bad times or in good times, in the time of sorrow or in time of joy, in time of hardship or in the time of relaxation, it is our duty to give thanks to God in everything. Of course it is hard and difficult to praise God when things go wrong and when we lose all our hopes.

In the time of sorrow are we able to praise God?

In India there was a preacher. One day when he came back after preaching in a successful meeting, he saw a huge crowd standing out side his house and when he inquired what the matter was, people said that his only son had died. His heart was broken and he didn't know what to do? In that painful and dark moment of his life, he wrote a beautiful song in the Malayalam language.

The song is like this:
"Dukhatinde pana patram kartav yande kayil tannal
santoshatode atu vangi hallelujah padidum nan...."

The meaning of this song is:
"If God gives me the cup of sorrow
I will gladly take it and sing praises to God."

Even in that moment of sorrow he could sing praises of God but if we think about his situation, how difficult it was for him to praise God. At times we find ourselves in such situations were it is completely impossible to praise God. But the Bible tells us in Rom 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

We read in 2 Chr 20th chapter that there was a God fearing king named Jehoshaphat. This king got in great trouble when he heard that a big army was coming against him. We can read the heart-wrenching cry of Jehoshaphat in this chapter toward God.

We read in 2 Chr 20:5-12, “Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court, and said: "O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You? Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever? And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying, ‘If disaster comes upon us; sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine; we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’ And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir; whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them; here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You."

His words completely show his desperation and frustration. It was a problem for which he had no solution. He and his army were not capable to handle that big army. He cries before God and says, “Neither we have any power nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

This was the condition of that king. There was no one who could help him but death and destruction was for sure.

They were in despair and all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the LORD. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly. And he said, "Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. ‘You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you." And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the LORD, worshiping the LORD” (2 Chr 20:13-18).

When God’s word came to them they praised God with their voices lifted as we read in 2 Chr 20:19, “Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high.”

2 Chr 20:21-24 says, “he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever.” Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.”

What an amazing story of answered prayers. Just by praising God, they achieved complete victory over their enemies whom they could have never defeated with full strength of their army.

Praise brings victory, joy and blessings of God in our lives. The Israelites saw mighty miracles of God in their lives. But instead of praising God, they murmured and the result was that they died in the wilderness. They could not get the blessings of God because of their murmuring. Not only in this Thanksgiving Day but in all the days of our lives we must praise God, no matter what may be the situation. And beyond doubt we will see blessings coming in our lives.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
