By Sherly Isaac

David was a young man when he killed Goliath the giant who was defying the Israelites. Saul the king of Israel and the whole army were frightened hearing the words of Goliath. But David who had neither military training nor any experience to wear heavy armors went to fight in the name of the Lord God almighty and won his battle. Bible says in 1 Sam 17:54-58, “And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent. When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, "Abner, whose son is this youth?" And Abner said, "As your soul lives, O king, I do not know." So the king said, "Inquire whose son this young man is." Then, as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand. And Saul said to him, "Whose son are you, young man?" So David answered, "I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite."

Further we read in 1 Sam 18:1, “Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” This was the first time Jonathan saw David who just accomplished the impossible task with the help of the Lord. Soon both became good friends. Jonathan became so much loyal to David that he even helped David to escape from the snares of his own father Saul. David and Jonathan both made a covenant. Their friendship was based on complete loyalty and trust for each other. Though Jonathan was the king’s son, though he knew that he would be the next king of Israel, yet he was willing to sacrifice his position, his status and his precious life for the sake of David, who was a mere shepherd boy. He risked his own life to save David’s life. This is true friendship. This is the quality of a true friend.

Today you may think that you are all alone in this world and have no friends who could care for you. But Jesus said in John 15:14, "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” Where can we find a more loyal and faithful friend than Jesus? He is more than faithful and trustworthy. He gave His precious life on the cruel cross for us and took our sins on Himself. The punishment and the suffering through which we had to go, was laid on Him. Bible says in Rom 5:6-8, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

If you give your life to Him, He will come into your life and become your friend as we read in Rev 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Psalmist says in Psa 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

Yes, He would walk with you, He would carry you in His mighty arms, He would love you more than any of your friends and make you happy. Even He will accompany you when you would be going through the valley of death. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

If you want this wonderful friend in your life, please pray this prayer with me: Lord Jesus, I repent from my sins. Please forgive and forget all my sins, come into my life and make me whole. Today, I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Lord, now on help me to walk in your ways and to become your child. Thank you for forgiving my sins and accepting me as your friend. I give you all the glory. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.

Dream killers are ugly and painful, but can they kill the dream?

By Vinod Isaac

Joseph was just a normal 17 years old kid, obedient to his father and ready to do whatever work his father would assign to him. He was God fearing and walking in the ways of the Lord.

His father loved him more than his brothers and that became the source of trouble for Joseph. His father loved him because he was his son of old age. Probably he also loved Joseph because he was a nice kid. He didn't participate in the evil which his brothers used to get involved in. It looks that his brothers did lot of things in secret and kept their dad in the dark. Joseph used to reveal all those to his father, all the deceptions and evil plans they were creating. For Bible tells in Gen 37:2 that "...Joseph brought a bad report of them to his father."

If you look at the lives of Joseph's brothers you will find that they were a people who did everything that was wrong in the eyes of God. In Gen 34:15-16 they made a deceptive agreement with the people of Shechem and they deliberately broke that agreement and did exactly the opposite of what they had agreed to. Deception and evil had ruled their lives.

Gen 34:15-16, "But on this condition we will consent to you: If you will become as we are, if every male of you is circumcised, then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us; and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people."

In view of all these the situation could have developed in such a way that Joseph's brothers hated him. Probably there was contention between Joseph and his brothers all the time so that they could not speak peaceably to him.

Gen 37:4, "But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him."

In the midst of troubles when his brothers hated him, Joseph hears God through dreams. Joseph sees dreams. These dreams were about his future on what God had planned for him. Today he is nobody, just a shepherd but tomorrow he is going to become somebody, somebody really great where even people who are not supposed to bow down to him are going to bow down before him.

Well his dreams enraged his brothers even more. His brothers envied him. It looks that Joseph's brothers had absolutely no idea who God was and could not even realize that if dream was from God there was nothing they could do to kill the dream. But they plan to kill the dream as well as the dreamer anyway.

Gen 37:19-20,"Then they said to one another, "Look, this dreamer is coming! Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, 'Some wild beast has devoured him.' We shall see what will become of his dreams!"

Now Joseph was given a nick name, "Dreamer". He is the subject of scorn and ridicule. All because God had spoken to him in a dream. They are planning evil. They say "We shall see what will become of his dreams". They have raised their fist against God. They have challenged the King of kings. Will God keep silent? Of course not.

Where it appeared as if God is nowhere to be seen, God is making His own move in the game of chess. God uses Ruben to mess up their plan. Ruben is suggesting, “let us not kill him by ourselves, but let us put him in a pit. Joseph is now put in a pit. Ruben is planning to rescue him from the pit without his brother's knowledge. But God had a different plan. God removes Ruben from the scene for a moment and uses Judah for His next move.

Gen 37:26-27, "So Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is there if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh." And his brothers listened."

Little did the dream killers knew that their moves are now becoming God's moves to bring the dream alive. They were trying to kill the dream and the dreamer, but God is keeping the dreamer alive and setting the stage for bringing the dream come true.

Now Joseph goes through pain and suffering. He is in the pit and is now being taken out to be sold by his own brothers. Joseph is sold to the Midianite traders. What a great plan They didn't kill their brother. Instead they sold him and made some money out of him. Isn't it wonderfull?. But it tells clearly and exactly how evil Joseph's brothers were. To conceal their wrong doings from their father and to keep on doing what is evil, they had one obstacle "Joseph". They planned to kill and came very close to execute their plan. For what purpose? Just to make sure that they can keep on doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord.

Yes my brothers and sisters. Sin keeps you committing sin again and again. It keeps you busy doing evil. That is the nature of the devil. He keeps people engaged in sin so that finally he can destroy them.

John 10:9-10, "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

Anna Nicole Smith's story is a stark reminder of what sin can do and what it really does. Devil shows you the glitter of gold first and by the time you see the dark side of it, it is already too late. You are already in chains.

But I have a good news for you. For Jesus no pit is too deep that He can't bring you out. For Jesus no chain is so thick that he could not cut it through. He can bring you out of any situation. However desperate your situation may be. Joseph's brothers could have looked to the God Joseph was worshipping and could have got out of their sins but they refused to know God. Are you living in sin today? Please don't refuse to know God. If you know God through Jesus Christ, your life will be totally different. Just tell Jesus that you want to repent of your sins and ask Him to wash you with His blood.

Now Joseph's brother were victorious, oh yea they got rid of the pesky nuisance. Joseph is no more there to take their report to their father. No more trouble. Now they are free to do whatever evil they plan to do. There is no body to put a break on them. They are all of one mind to do evil. They agree with each other and are bend on doing evil and now they have eliminated their biggest threat. For them they have killed the dream. A person sold as slave can never be free. Can never become somebody. A slave is a slave nothing more than that.

Did you ever have a dream? Did dream killers try to kill your dream? Did devil tell you this lie time and time again that your dream is not going to come to pass? Did the people around you have nicknamed you like they did to Joseph? Did they make fun of you? Did they ridicule you? I have news for you that if the dream is from God there no one on earth who can kill the dream. Dream killers are painful and ugly but they can't kill the dream.

Years later Joseph is now the Prime Minister of Egypt. The slave is free indeed and has become somebody. Joseph's brothers come and bow down before him bringing to remembrance all about them, what they had done against him. Joseph is not in danger anymore. He is in authority. He is the boss. He has a full army at his disposal to do whatever he wanted to do. Can he trust his brothers again?

Gen 42:6, "Now Joseph was governor over the land; and it was he who sold grain to all the people of the land. And Joseph's brothers came and bowed down before him with their faces to the earth.

God has fulfilled the dream. He will also fulfill the dream that He has given to you. Always remember that He is God. He can even use dream killers to prepare the way for you to achieve your dream.

Equipping for the ministry - part 4

By Sheela Isaac

If God had called you for the ministry He would definitely train you. He will not only train you but also equip you thoroughly for the kind of ministry for which He is calling you. We have already seen many options of training in my previous messages. Now we are going to see a few more course of action in training. The question is why God needs to train anybody? Why this training is so important in the ministry?

1. The training makes you obedient:
You might have been doing the ministry for a long time. You might have been called for the ministry but if you do not know how to follow Christ, your ministry is useless. If you do not know the master plan for the ministry, that is, the understanding of exactly what you are supposed to do, then you can't do an effective ministry. Every institution has a master plan, the chart. The higher authorities know what project should be completed in which time frame. In the same way if God had called you for a purpose, He will surely have one master plan with Him. Only He knows what His goal is and which work must be done with in what time. If you do not know the master plan of your master then how are you going to work? How do you know what project God had kept for you? Will you not look like a person who is blind and does not know the way? Will you not look like a fool who is toiling and wandering in mid summer heat without any proper plan?

Look at the life of Moses. He was called for the ministry. God specifically told him to go to Egypt and deliver the children of Israel. Exo 3:10 "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." He had a master plan even before he left the land of Midian. He knew very well what he is going to do. God told him clearly that he is going to stand before the king and to pursue him so that he is forced to let the children of Israel go out of Egypt but the king would not listen and God would do mighty wonders in that land. Exo 3:19-20, "But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. "So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go." God not only gave him the whole plan but He trained him for the task. Moses knew very well how to hear from God and follow him. God kept him in the wilderness for forty years and I believe that He trained him for the task. Standing before a king was not a joke in those days. Without proper training you can't stand before a king. If you do not know how to hear God’s voice, you just do not fit in for that job. Because you just can't go before the king and just say your regular 'Lord's prayer' and come back. You just can't recite your traditional prayer and think that it would work. The Bible says that Moses stood before the king and told him what God had to say. He became the mouthpiece of God. He brought the very heart of God to the king. He told him what God wanted to do with His people, the Israelites. You know the story how the king hardened his heart after every plague and he would not allow the Israelites to go out of the land. It was definitely a huge task for Moses. It was an impossible task.

If God had entrusted you or me for this task you might have plainly told, "God are you crazy, do you think it is ever possible?" Suppose you had courage to believe it but your fellow Christians might have told you, "are you doing it in your right mind? God has given you wisdom why can't you think intellectually and realize that it is a crazy idea." An ordinary person cannot do it unless and until you know for sure how God works and speaks. Moses was not a crazy man to bring more than 2 million people out of Egypt. He sure heard from God, he sure had a master plan, he sure knew how God speaks though it did not look logical. Not only did he hear from God but he had a heart to obey God. If God had not trained him he would never have thought of obeying God. It did not happen overnight. I am sure God definitely built trust in him through long training, so that he could trust God and know without any doubt that it was not some crazy idea. It was definitely not a crazy idea but God said it and God fulfilled it. Exo 12:37-38, "Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds; a great deal of livestock."

This training brings you to the place where you are willing to obey God for everything. God's ideas may not look logical to you at times but you still obey God. The things God speaks to you might look crazy at times but you still obey it, because you were trained enough to carry out the work. If God had called you for His ministry He sure will train you and will generate in you a strong trust so that you could follow Christ and Christ alone. If you are trained in God's way then you will never ever preach the 'watered down' messages. Twenty pieces of silver or thirty pieces of silver or gold will not move you. You will not wave like a reed in the wind and change your messages frequently. You will not preach something which you do not follow in actual life. You will never ever compromise with world and worldly things. It is the sure test whether God had trained you or not. Look at the life of the prophets of Old Testament and the preachers of New Testament and you will notice that nothing could move them. The money, the world, the people of the world nothing could move them. They preached the 'un-compromised' messages, they lived an 'un-compromised' life. If you are a true preacher of the Gospel, nothing of this world could move you. Because of this rigorous training, you will know without any shadow of doubt whom you are following and who called you for the ministry. You will live an un-compromised life.

2. The training destroys 'self':
Gal 5:24-25, "And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."

Becoming God's children and doing His discipleship are two different things. When you come to the foot of the Cross, repent from your sins and invite Jesus into your heart, you become God's child. When you become a child of God you are in a privileged position where He treats you as a child of His. You will receive all the favor and comfort as a child of the most high and holy God. God will become your protector, your Lord, your Savior, your provider. It is a very comfortable position when you become His child. But when you think of discipleship it's a very hard position. Somebody said that as a soldier gets training for the battle, God would put you in boot camp and train you. In boot camp they don't see if the boot is comfortable on your feet or not or if the dress fits on you or not. The people who are trained to become a soldier have to go through many rigorous systematic exercises. They have to go through tiresome drills and exhausting marches, they have to do 'fatigue duties '. Through hard training they prepare them to become a good soldier. In the same way when you are called for ministry, God will put you in boot camp to train you. The question is why this training is needed? Why God cannot remove the hardship, sorrows and persecution from the life of His children? The answer is simple. If you go in ministry without proper training you will not be able to handle it. Let's see what this training does?

a). You live an un-compromised life:
Look at the life of Peter and Paul. They both worked tirelessly for Christ. Their life was not an easy one. Peter was a very timid person. The Bible says that when Jesus was about to be crucified Peter went to see what would happen to Christ. There a woman a servant girl asked him a question, "Are you not one of His disciples?" What Peter did? He simply denied Jesus thrice. He swore and said, "I do not know this man." How timid he was. But he went through rigorous training, he suffered, he was thrown in prison several times, he was beaten several times and after all those training he became a strong disciple of Christ. History says that at the end he did not deny Christ but he was willing to die for the cause. After, all those training his life turned around and he no longer stayed as the same old timid person. When they wanted to kill him for the Gospel’s sake he refused to compromise but instead he was willing to die. He refused to deny Christ but rather he preferred to die. Why? Because he knew whom he followed and what his future held. He knew that if he stood firm and un-compromised, he will receive the crown of life and a place in heaven.

b). Your passions and desires die:
This training brings you to the place where your self, the "I", the ego, dies. You no longer worry about your dignity, your status, your greatness but instead you worry about souls. Your reputation no longer bothers you but you always think about how to please God, how to follow God. You no longer think of pleasing the people around you but you will always think how to please God. You will no longer love money and the things of this world but you will be worried about the dying and perishing souls. Yes, this training changes everything. Your greatness dies, 'I am something great' feeling dies, your feeling of me, my and my family dies but you began to think about God and His work. That is why John the Baptist says in John 3:30, "He must increase, but I must decrease." If you are called by Jesus and trained by Him for His ministry your attitude will always be the same. You will always love to see the kingdom of Jesus growing, you will always love to see Jesus' name being glorified, you will always love to see souls getting saved from hell fire. Jesus' passion will become your passion. Jesus came into this world for the very same purpose. If your passion is not the same as what the passion of Jesus is, then your ministry is useless. Jesus said, "I came to save that which was lost." Is this your passion too? Are you doing everything to expand His kingdom? Are you passionately working to save souls from hell? Are you winning lost souls for Christ? If you are not doing the same thing what Jesus desires then you are not ministering for Him but you are destroying the ministry of Christ. Then you are not working for Christ but working against as an enemy. Jesus rightly said it in Mat 12:30 "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad."

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
