“Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above, With wisdom, power, and love, Our God is an awesome God…” This is a very thrilling song.

Bible accounts tell us that God of the Bible is an awesome God. He did mighty and awesome deeds among the Israelites in the Old Testament. He came down and walked among us as a man yet performed mighty miracles. The reason was that the Spirit of the awesome God rested on Him as we read in Acts 10:38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” He is still performing miracles in the lives of people who believe in His name. We often forget and do not recognize the awesome power of God.

In the book of Joshua 3rd chapter we read about the mighty works of God. It was the time when Moses was dead and Joshua had taken over the leadership. They were ready to cross Jordan River to take possession of the Promised Land. But they had really big challenge before them to cross the Jordan River that overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest, (Joshua 3:15). But now listen what God had told them in Joshua 3:13, "And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap."

Further we read that as soon as the priests put their feet on the Jordan River the water was cut off. We read in Josh 3:15-16, “and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest), that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.”

How did it happen? Simple, it happened because they were carrying the ark of the Lord. When God told Moses to make the ark of the Lord He told in Exo 25:21-22, “You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you. And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.”

The Bible note says, ‘The "mercy seat" between the two golden cherubim, who symbolize the presence of God (1 Sam. 4:4), was thought off as a throne or a dwelling place for Almighty God (Exo. 17-22).’

Ark of the Lord was the place where God used to meet with Moses and the priests. Ark of the Lord was the place where Almighty God dwelt. In the New Testament Jesus promised to give the Holy Spirit who will come and dwell with those who believe on Him. We read in John 14:16-18, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”

If the Spirit of the awesome God rests on you, you can literally cut off the raging waters of the river. You can literally cross over the problems in front of you. As soon as souls of your foot will touch the ground, waters would give up. Nothing would be impossible for you if the Spirit of the awesome God rests on you. That type of mighty and awesome God is He. If you want this awesome God in your life, invite Him and He will gladly come and dwell with you. He will turn your defeats into victory. He said in Rev 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Knowing Christ

By Sheela Isaac

1 Cor 6:9-10, "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
Gal 5:19-21, "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."

The Bible clearly says that those who practice the above mentioned things would not inherit heaven. The above verse further says that these are the works of the flesh. The Bible says that carnally minded is death and it is enmity against God. Rom 8:6-8, "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God." So if you are practicing such things it means that you are carnal and not righteous or spiritual. The standards we apply or the criteria on which we judge are different than the standards and scale of God. You might think that you are a good person, you have a good reputation in society but it does not mean that you are righteous. When you look in the fish aquarium you might think, "what a clean and pristine water it is." But when you test it for Ammonia, nitrate etc then you would be surprised to see that Ammonia level is very high. The high level of ammonia in water is highly deadly for the fish but your eyes cannot see it. For you water might look pristine and clean but in real sense it is not. In the same way God's moral standards are different than what our standard are. He does not evaluate our lives on the basis of our society or as we evaluate. You might be born in a Christian home but it does not make you a Christian. You might be attending a church regularly but it does not make you a believer of Christ. A cat born in a garage does not become a car. In the same way a person born in a Christian home does not become a Christian either. You might think, “then how do I become a Christian?” Good question!!

Jesus said, ‘one who is born of flesh is flesh but one who is born of spirit is spirit.’ John 3:5 -6, "Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Yes, we are all born once in this world in the flesh. But Jesus says clearly that unless one is born in spirit he/she cannot see the kingdom of God. What does that mean? Do we need one more birth? Yes, we need to take birth spiritually. This new birth experience in spirit is called "Born Again". It means that we need to take birth in spirit. Why? Since the Bible says, "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God", and because sin is ruling our lives, spirit is dead in sin. Unless and until sin is blotted out from life one would stay dead in sin. You might look alive walking, talking but your spirit is dead in sin. It has no life in it and a dead spirit cannot enter in heaven. That is why spiritual birth is necessary. And this experience comes by repentance and faith. The Nicene creed also says the same thing. It means that you and I got to repent from our sins and get rid of it. Repentance does not mean that after repenting once you again and again fall in sin and continue in it. True repentance not only blots all the past sins, but also gives ability to live a holy life. If you are in a Christian home and still practicing above mentioned sins then you need this experience. If you are in such sins it means that you are not spiritual but still carnal and in flesh. If you say that any of these sins exist in your life then you are not righteous according to God's scale and standard. It means that you got to repent and receive forgiveness of sins.

The question is what true repentance does to one? What does Salvation look like?

1. Changed heart:
2 Cor 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."

Salvation changes one inside out. If you are a saved person you will never be the same again. You will not practice the old sins. When you get saved, a dramatic change takes place in life and you can tell it without any doubt. You will not like your old life style anymore. You will not like to associate with old friends anymore. You will not like vulgar and filthy talk anymore. You will not like to see the filthy movies and TV programs which you once watched. You will not like the drinking and dancing parties anymore. You will not like to read the magazines and books which you once were reading. You will not like to tell lies anymore, you will not like to drink anymore, you will not like to have the relationships you had anymore, and on and on.. The Bible says, if anyone is in Christ the old things have passed away behold all things have become new (2 Cor 5:17).

2. Transparent life:
Salvation brings transparency in life. Your life becomes an open book because there is nothing to hide. Why do people hide things even from their own spouse and family members? That is because something fishy was going on behind the scenes. Why one should hide things, because something wrong and improper is there. If everything is correct and right in your life, then there is nothing to hide from others. I remember one of the girls who used to work with me in office. said, "my brother comes very late in the night. Sometimes it might be one or two in the night and my mom used to sit and wait and it is very miserable.” Further she said, “he never tells us where he is going and what time he would be back. It is very hard for us." It was so sad that they could not know where her brother was going every day, what he was doing or who his friends are. Why families are breaking apart today? The reason is because of this. If you have something to hide from your family members you will never enjoy peace in your family. Relationship is a very delicate thing, it just hangs on one thread and that thread is trust. When you break that delicate thread everything falls apart. When a family member comes to know things from outsiders before you tell them it breaks everything apart. It hangs on mutual trust and when it is broken everything shatters.

That is why Salvation is so important. When you get saved God turns you into a trustworthy person. Now you have nothing to hide from your family members or others. Now you don't have inconsistent replies. You know what is right and what is wrong. You know then how to walk in holiness and purity. The transformation makes all the difference. If you are not saved, come to Jesus and believe me it will improve your lifestyle. It will make you a transparent and trustworthy person. You will tell openly what you will do behind the scene and there will be nothing fishy about it. Let your life become an open and transparent book.

3. Holy life:
Jesus said, be holy as I am holy. 1 Pet 1:16, "because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." When you become one with your Savior Christ, the holiness which radiates from Him will reflect from your life too. The Bible says that every tree is evaluated by it's fruit. A bad tree cannot bear good fruit. How true it is. People can see your life and tell whether you are saved or not. If you are saved you will radiate the same love of Christ. Jesus wanted to see that all are saved and none perish. You too would do everything to save souls from hell fire. Jesus is holy and He wants to see us holy and if you are his child you will long to live a holy life. Salvation brings holiness in life. It not only generates holiness but also creates in you a longing and craving desire to remain holy. You not only talk about a holy life but also practice it. Salvation brings a burning desire to read His word and spend time in prayer. A drastic change takes place in the lives of those who get saved.

Today I was watching Joyce Mayer's message. She said that you could change your habits in thirty days. She was telling that she was smoking even after getting saved. She had a craving heart to live a holy life but she was not able to leave the cigarette smoking habit. So she decided to practice continuously to get rid of this habit. She said the first day it was pretty hard and that every hour she had the urge to smoke but she prayed hard and repeated that she wanted to live a holy life. She said that for the first six to seven days it was very hard to resist the temptation but as she practiced with determination she could overcome. After thirty days she was totally free from this addiction and she even forgot that once she was a chain smoker. Yes you can do it with the help of God with determination. Paul says, ‘I discipline my body to bring it into subjection.’ In the book of Timothy also he says the same thing. Paul tells Timothy to become a good example for believers and exercise himself toward godliness. It is applicable for every believer.

1 Cor 9:24-27, "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 Tim 4:7 -8, "But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come." 1 Tim 4:12, "Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

Salvation brings instantaneous change in several areas of life but a few areas do not change immediately. That is why we call Salvation as one time and instantaneous experience but holiness as a process after Salvation. You have to exercise the areas of your life, which remain unholy and bring them to subjection. Practice, pray hard and train yourself in the practice of holiness. Jesus said, be holy as I am holy. What Jesus expects from you and me is that our holiness, purity and walk with God should grow on a daily basis and reach perfection. Only getting saved is not enough but a holy and pure walk is as important for a true Christian.

Wake Up

By Sherly Isaac

Jesus spoke a parable in Luke 15:11-20. It is the story of a lost son who rebelled against his father. He left home with the share he got after dividing between him and his brother. This is the story of a son who wasted all his money for prodigal living. When all his money was used up, he began to be in want. A day came in his life when he had nothing to eat. Then he went and joined himself with a citizen of that country who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything, (Luke 15:15-16).

While he was in this pathetic condition, he remembered, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!’ We read in Luke 15:17-20, "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, "and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."' And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” And there was a big party in their house because father found his lost son.

You may say, “How foolish this son was who left his home, wasted his money and had to eat food of pigs.” But I want to draw your attention towards those who are spiritually in the same condition. Because of sin every human being is lost. Probably they look good from outside and live a respectable life in society yet they are in this state. We are in spiritual poverty, lost everything and starving to death.

Jesus said in Rev 3:17-18, "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'; and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked; I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”

Yes, there is a way out. Wake up and return to the heavenly Father’s house. Repent from your sins and give your life to Jesus. He will forgive and forget your sins and will give you the status of sons and daughters. John 1:12, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”
