By Sherly Isaac

This is the season when we remember the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the cruel cross He gave His precious life for our sins. Why the almighty God would give His only Son to die for us? It was nothing except for His great love for us that prompted Him to perform this big sacrifice for us. Bible says in Rom 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It was His love for us that made Him to come down in this world and even to go to the cross. That was the love that made Him to take away our sins, to take away the pain of death and to conquer death for us. He gave His life to save us from our sins, the sin that came on us because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve.

Once I was working in one college as an assistant professor. One day in the staff room we were discussing about war when the first Iraq war broke out. I said, “all these things are happening according to the Bible. Many prophecies given in the Bible are coming true and Jesus’ return is very near.” I also told about some of the things from the book of Revelation that would happen in the end times. As soon as I started talking about Jesus’ return and the prophecies written in the book of Revelation, one Muslim professor held my hand and started pleading with me not to continue on this topic. I looked toward her in surprise, why? She said, “I feel great deal of fear whenever I hear the return of Jesus, judgment day and end times.” I could see fear in her face and in her eyes. She was visibly frightened. Then only I realized how God took away fear of death and of judgment day from my heart because I gave my life to Jesus.

The fear of death and the fear of uncertain future! Jesus came exactly to take away all these things from our lives. He gave His precious life so that we could live in peace leaving behind our sins, guilt, the pain and fear of death. He shed His precious blood for the very purpose. Oh, He defeated death and rose on the third day. There is no one else who ever defeated death except Jesus.

When we give our lives to Him, He removes the fear of death from our hearts. David says in Psa 23:4, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” How David had this much courage to face even death? The reason is simple, this little shepherd of Israel had known the Lord God almighty and God was with him.

There is a beautiful song:
“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow
Because He lives, All fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future
My life is worth the living, just because He lives.”

Yes, my friend, we need not to fear tomorrow, when we face it with Living Christ. He lives and is very much alive to forgive us and give us a new life, a life filled with peace and joy, a secured future. All these things are available if you give your life to Jesus. Bible says in Heb 4:7, "Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your heart." Accept Him and give your life to Him, He will make you a new person.

Awesome God! - Part 2

By Sherly Isaac

When we study the nature of God from the Bible we can understand that He is an awesome God. Often we sing songs of His greatness, of His great deeds, of His awesome, astonishing mighty works, of how He enriches the lives of believers and yet most often we forget how mighty and how great God is.

In the first chapter of the book of Joshua we read of the promises of God for Joshua that "No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you”(Josh 1:5).

When God gave Joshua this big promise, He was not kidding! Though they were like grass hoppers before the giants in that land of cities fortified, it was almost impossible task for Joshua and his men to overcome the people. But look at the promise of God in Joshua 1:2-7, "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them; the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”

The next chapters of the book of Joshua talk about victory after victory which these little people accomplished over the giants, over mighty warriors, over strong enemies living in fortified cities, over kings having large armies as the sands of the sea.

How did it happen? Not because of the power of Joshua or his men but by the mighty and awesome power of God. It was the power of the same God who gave this extensive promise who knew exactly how to use the little Joshua against the mighty and furious army of that land. It was not possible with men but God made it possible for Joshua and his army by His mighty and stretched forth arms. The day came when every promise was fulfilled word by word.

God gave His promise also to another man named Caleb who had accompanied Joshua when they first went to spy the land. It was more than forty years back when God promised Joshua and Caleb that both of them would enter into the Promised Land. Did God forget His promise? Of course not! We read in Josh 14:6-14, ‘Then the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him: "You know the word which the LORD said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me in Kadesh Barnea. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the LORD my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.” And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.’

God remembered His promise even after forty five long years. He did not forget His promise. This is what this awesome God is all about. He kept these two men alive and gave them what He promised to them.

My friend, if this awesome God is your God, if you follow this awesome God whole-heartedly, He will bring blessings after blessings in your life. He will give you victory after victory and no one would be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Oh, how mighty and wonderful is this God. Let us humble ourselves and wholly follow Him as Joshua and Caleb did.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
