Last Sunday we celebrated Easter. This was the day when Jesus rose from the dead – the day when death was defeated, the day of victory over death, the day when tears and sorrows of many turned into rejoicing. Yes, death is painful and heartbreaking but resurrection and return to life brought joy in the hearts of those who were weary, mourning, weeping and broken heated.

When Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene and her joy could be seen in these verses Mark 16:9-11, “Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.”

Then we read in Luke 24th chapter about the experience of the two disciples who were on the way to the village called Emmaus. This village was seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking and reasoning about the things which happened at Jerusalem, that is, the horrible death of Jesus by crucifixion and the rumors of resurrection. Their hearts were heavy and they were very sad. Jesus took part in their conversation and asked what they were talking about and why they are sad. Then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not known the things which happened there in these days?" And He said to them, "What things?" So they said to Him, "The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened. Yes, and certain women of our company, who arrived at the tomb early, astonished us. When they did not find His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said He was alive. And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but Him they did not see"(Luke 24:18-24)

While they were speaking with Jesus, they were still in sorrow but when they realized that Jesus was with them, they got filled with great joy and immediately returned to Jerusalem and told all His disciples that Jesus is risen from the dead. We read the conversation between Jesus and theirs in Luke 24:25-35, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them. Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?" So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!" And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.”

That was the joy He gave them showing Himself alive. Jesus appeared to many during the next forty days and the day came when He would go to the Father. Bible tells us that Jesus blessed them, separated Himself from them and was carried up into heaven. When it happened we read in Luke 24:52. “And they (Jesus’ disciples) worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,”

Today also Jesus wants to fill our hearts with great joy. Probably you are saddened and in deep sorrow, probably you are heartbroken as you have lost your loved ones, but Jesus overcame these troubles. He can fill your heart with great joy. He can transform your tears into great joy. Look to Him, He can definitely help you.

God who cares for us!

Recently I was watching news titled “Bald eagles make a comeback” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18013427 What happened was that Bald Eagles were not able to hatch eggs because of an insecticide named DDT used in California 35 years ago. Eagles had high levels of the now-banned insecticide DDT in their systems. The chemical causes many birds to lay eggs with abnormally thin shells that did not last long enough to hatch properly.

After many years they brought eagle eggs to laboratory and hatched the eggs. The bald eagles had almost vanished from that region. But now Eagles are able to hatch eggs without human intervention. They showed a clip of eagle’s nest where two three eggs were lying. One egg was breaking slowly and the chick was trying to come out of the egg. Even before the egg was not yet fully broken, one of the parent eagles was walking around the eggs with a big piece of meat in its mouth.

When I saw that, I was compelled to think about the concern of the parent eagle. The chick had not come out fully and yet the parent eagle was ready with meat to feed its young one.

Our God is also a caring God and He knows our needs before we ask or tell Him. When Jesus taught His disciples the Lord’s prayer He said in Mat 6:8, “For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.” Before we ask or before we bring petition to Him, He knows what our needs are. Psalmist says in Psa 84:11, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

My friend, are you in need of anything? If God is your father, He has already prepared good and best things for you. He cares for you and He knows what your needs are. At the right time He will provide for you and will not allow you to lack any good thing.

Second thing is that He will guide you and protect you in your life’s journey. We read in Deu 32:11-12, “As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the LORD alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him.”

These verses talk about almighty God’s protection and provision in the midst of dangers the Israelites faced when they came out of Egypt. Bible says that in the wilderness there were fiery serpents and scorpions. It was a dessert place where there was no water and no shade to hide themselves from the scorching heat and yet God led them, carried them and walked with them in a pillar of cloud in the day time and a pillar of fire by night.

What a mighty God He is. Yet He loves and cares for His children. If you are not a child of God, you can become one by just praying this simple prayer. “Lord Jesus, I confess all my sins. Please come into my life and wash me with your precious blood. Make me your child. Now on I will walk in your ways. Thank you for making me your child. I give all the glory to you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 13th May. 2008

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 13th May. 2008
