Luke 11:11-13, "If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"

Jesus told about people who though having wicked and evil heart are yet willing to give good things to their children. Then Jesus spoke further and said, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" Bible talks about Holy Spirit through out the whole Bible. Holy Spirit is none other than God's Spirit. When Jesus was leaving this world He promised to His disciples that He will not leave them as orphans. We read in John 14:16-18, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you."

Holy Spirit is given as Helper to the believer, those who are washed by the blood of Jesus. When He comes in one's heart, He guides, leads and dwells with us and helps us in every way.

The other day I was watching TV News and they were showing the post war condition of Lebanon. Buildings were damaged or flattened, many were living under trees or shelters. And the most interesting thing was that Hezbollah a terrorist organization has already started cleanup and started registering names of those who need home, job and other necessities. Hezbollah whom the rest of the world knows as complete evil because of its terrorist activities, is ready to provide and help the people.

When Jesus said, "...If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!", He told about the wicked hearts of human being yet they are willing to give good gifts to their own. Then He said, "will not the loving and good God give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

How can we receive the Holy Spirit?

The first qualification for receiving Holy Spirit is that you must be saved. In Acts 19:1-2 we read, 'And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."' In these verses we can understand that though people from Ephesus had got saved, yet they had never heard about the Holy Spirit. When Paul spoke to them further, And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.(Acts 19:6)"

Today also you might have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior and it is possible that you have not heard about receiving Holy Spirit. Ask God and He will certainly, fill you with the precious Holy Spirit as He promised in Luke 11:11-13.

God is Able

By Sheela Isaac

Psa 50:15, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

The God of the Bible says, “call upon me in the day of trouble, and I will deliver you.” Yes, God of Bible is able to deliver you from any situation. He is able to rescue you from even the deepest trouble you are in, and He is able to fix any problem you are facing today.

1. God is able to deliver:
I was raised in a Christian home. My parents had taught us the lesson of honesty though my parents were not saved at that time. I learned the first lesson in my home not to take the money for which you have not earned or money, which does not belong to you. When I joined the job I always remembered the same lesson. It was always in my mind that I was paid for every hour or minute of work. So I need to work hard with whole honesty and sincerity. I still remember some of the girls who used to work with me in office used to stop their work at or around 3.30 or 4 O’clock. And after that they used to simply sit and keep looking at their wrist watch and used to say, “arre yar time pass nahi ho raha hai, pata nahi kab panch bajenge (oh my, time is not passing I do not know when 5 o’clock would come).” In that office, we were supposed to work from morning 10 to evening 5. If you are a sincere person you know that it is your duty and obligation to work till 5 since the company pays you every penny for that many hours of work. That’s how people cheat and make money, which is illegal for them. They do not have the right for the money for which they have not worked. The same thing is with bribe or the money for which you have not signed up any contract where you are entitled to get certain amount of money. If you are getting such money which legally do not belong to you then you are not cheating others but you are cheating yourself and pushing yourself toward hell. You know that it is sin.

Well it is parent’s duty to teach their children the lessons of honesty, but many have failed to do so. That’s why we see corruption in our society even in the Christian circle. As I wrote earlier, my dad was an Engineer. Whatever money we had we paid to buy a house. The house was from government (housing board) so the construction was still going on. My dad had three more years of job and so we were not much worried. But one day suddenly my dad got a letter from the head office saying, “according to the new rules twenty five years of service have been completed and the age is 55 so you are getting retirement.” According to that letter, from the very next day my dad had no job. It came as a real shock as my dad was waiting for the next promotion. At that point we did not know what we are going to do and where we are going to stay. We did not have money to pay house rent nor had regular income. I heard all the worrisome talk of my parents and knew that our future is bleak. I began to think, “my sister, brother and I may not be able to complete our studies, and no one in our house would be earning money and so we may not have good food to eat for.” These thoughts were eating me up, and to me our future looked doomed. At that time I was already saved but never heard God speaking to me. As I was standing in my courtyard and pondering over these things I heard God speaking deep inside of my heart. He said, “everything is going to be alright and I would take care of your future.” When I heard it, I knew without any doubt that it was God and an instant peace settled in my heart. This peace was so permanent that it stayed with me for months thereafter.

My dad had an old friend who met him when he first joined the job. So my dad called him and explained everything to him. He said, “do not worry, I have built a new house and you can come and stay in it as long as you want. Don’t worry about the rent, you can give the rent when you have money.” When we arrived in that house I really knew that not only God spoke to me but he really arranged a place for us to stay in. How grateful we were to God at that time. We lived in this house for nearly eight months till we moved out to our own house. Then few months later we could pay the eight months rent to them. How good our God is.

Do you love God? Do you know Him personally? If you are a child of God, your future would not be ruined but God would rescue you from any worst situation. Are you in trouble today? Is your hopes dead today? Look to Jesus, call upon His name and know for sure He will come running for your help.

2. God is able to fulfill the promises:
2 Cor 1:20, “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

If you are a child of God and God had spoken something to you it would definitely come to pass. Look at the life of David. He was just a shepherd boy. When Saul, whom God chose did not walk in His ways and failed to obey God, God raised another person in his place. God sent Samuel to anoint David for kingship. 1 Sam 16:1, “Now the LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons." I have read the story of David hundreds of times but recently when I was reading I found out some new and fascinating things. Here we find that God anointed David for kingship. Not only that, He was constantly working on behalf of David to bring him to kings position. Let’s see what are they?

1. Naturally no one can ever imagine that an ordinary boy could become a king. He was just a shepherd boy who did not have any political experience to run the whole nation. He just knew how to control the animals how to tend them and even how to save them from the hands of wild animals. But God who anointed him pushed him to the first level of kingship when he fought with Goliath. The Bible says that the women of that nation sang for David a song saying, “Saul killed thousands but David killed ten thousands.” 1 Sam 18:7, “So the women sang as they danced, and said: "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands." Thus the whole nation knew that David has a potential to become king.

2. God sent evil spirit upon Saul to push David one more step further toward kingship. Wait a minute did I hear correct? Did God send evil spirit? Yes that’s what the Bible says. 1 Sam 18:10, “And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times:” God sent evil spirit upon Saul and made an opportunity for the shepherd boy to serve at king’s palace. The Bible says that whenever David played the music the evil spirit left. The reason was that David was filled with the Holy Spirit. The anointing drove the evil spirit away.

3. Saul played tricks to kill David and because of this incidence David became his son in-law. 1 Sam 18:20-21, “Now Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.” So Saul said, "I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." Therefore Saul said to David a second time, "You shall be my son-in-law today." Saul had an idea to kill David through this plan but Saul’s tricks pushed David further for kingship.

Saul did not finish with his tricks but he was constantly searching for David to kill him. He made several attempts on his life, but finally David became the king over Israel. What God had kept for David, Saul could not erase it. If you are a child of God know for sure that whatever God has kept for you, no one would be able to erase. No devil, no human being of this world would be able to trap you in their tricks. If God is with you, He would rescue you from all the danger and all the trouble. Psa 34:17, “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.”

God not only promised kingdom to David but made a way out for him to become a king. God is able to fulfill His promises. Are you a child of God? If yes, God is always there to help you out. He would always deliver you from the snares of the enemy. He would always fulfill His promises.

Protection of God for His Children - Part 2

By Sherly Isaac

Psa 41:2, "The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies."

This is the promise of God for the children of God. Once I read a true story of a servant of God. He was traveling for many days driving himself. One night as he was traveling, he fell asleep behind the wheels. He did not know what happened next. His car crossed lanes and slipped along the side slope. He saw a dream at that time that his car was about to fall into a pond. He also saw an angel holding a net in his hand throwing the net on his car and pulling the car towards dry land. After seeing that dream, he woke up frightened, sweating all over. When he opened his eyes and looked around, he found himself at the brink of a pond. Had he gone further, he would have certainly got drowned. How his car stopped at that point without going any further, he had no idea. Then only he realized that God had sent His angel to protect him. He praised God for His protection.

There are hundreds who have experienced this type of protection in their lives and often they were saved from disaster by the mighty hand of God.

Once we lived in a very remote area of India. It was surrounded by mountains and forest. My dad often would be on tour. In those days there were no cell/mobile phones that he could inform us the exact time of his arrival. My mom would do her sewing, knitting to stay awake and wait until he comes home. That day also my dad went on tour. My mom asked me and my brother to stay awake with her but we were so sleepy that after few moments we slept.

My mom stayed awake but in the middle of the night she also fell asleep. Whether she saw a dream or felt as if someone knocked at the door, she woke up in a hurry and crossed the big hallway and came to the front door which opened to a small closed veranda where there was another door. She opened the door and as she stepped into the front veranda, something told her not to open the door. She stood there confused thinking whether she really heard the knocking on the door or not. She could not find courage to look outside from the front lattice. She turned, closed the inside door and stood there for moments to hear whether there was any knocking. But she heard no knocking or any noise. Of course at that time dad did not return from his tour. She was shaken even in the morning when she told us how she was about to open the front door. But how God intervened in her life.

When we give our lives in the mighty hand of Jesus, He protects us and keeps us safe. Psalmist says, "The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies." I love the word "preserve". When we preserve food or something perishable, we add salt so that it could preserve the food from decaying or spoiling. Our lives are also like perishable food but when we give our lives to Jesus, He promised to preserve our lives. As long as our lives are in His hands, He will not allow us to die, perish or spoil but He will preserve it. He will keep us alive and bless us. He will not allow His children to fall in the hands of their enemies.

Dear Friends, Today you may be filled with fear but look to Jesus, give your life to Jesus, He will protect you. He will keep you and He will bless you.
