By Sherly Isaac

Recently O. J. Simpson was arrested for armed robbery. Once a well-known player O.J. Simpson shocked everybody with his act of robbery. According to experts if he is convicted of his crime, he could face life in prison. It was not the fist time that a well-known person did this type of act but you can hear frequently about the wrong doings of so called stars.

The reason is that money, fame, education and status of living in high and influential society do not change a person. But when a person turns to Christ, Jesus changes that person and gives him/her a new life. Bible says in 2 Cor 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

In the New Testament we read about a man named Saul who later became Paul. He was involved in the murdering of Christians. When they stoned young Stephen because of his faith in Jesus Christ, this man was keeping the clothes of the murderers. As we read in Acts 7:58, “and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.”

In Acts 9:1-2 we can read how Saul was zealous about his work, “Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.”

Saul was no ordinary man. He was a learned scholar and a Pharisee who really believed that those who are following Christ are apostates. But when he himself had a personal encounter with Christ, his life dramatically changed. He was no longer aggressive but a loyal and humble servant of God. There were times when people beat him, tried to kill him and behaved badly against him, but we do not see any bad response from him. Instead he prayed for them. ‘

Yes, my friend that’s what happens when a person meets his/her Creator. Old things pass away and all things become new. But what would happen to a person who does not meet his/her Creator? I would say that the same thing would happen as that of O.J. Simpson. Punishment! Yes, punishment for the crime committed and there is no escape. There is only one way, either face punishment or turn from your evil ways and receive forgiveness of sin through the shed blood of Jesus.

Jesus came for the very purpose to save us from our sins. On the cruel cross He gave His precious life so that we could come out of our sins and being spared from eternal punishment. Today His precious blood is available for our redemption. There is no other name given for our salvation except Jesus Christ. Come to Him. Accept Him as your Lord and Savior. He will change you. He will give you a new life.

Awesome God – Part 10

God Made Victorious to Abijah

By Sherly Isaac

In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam, Abijah became king over Judah. Abijah was the grate-grandson of David. Jeroboam the king of Israel was not related to king David but because Solomon, David’s son in his later years did not walk in the ways of God, God got angry with him and God sent Ahijah prophet to Jeroboam to prophesy over him. We read in 1 Ki 11:31-32, “And he said to Jeroboam, "Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you '(but he shall have one tribe for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),

So Jeroboam ruled in the land of Israel. Though God made him king over Israel he did evil in the sight of God. What was the sin of Jeroboam? He forgot the Lord God almighty and served idols and demons and other gods as we read in 2 Chr 11:15, “Then he appointed for himself priests for the high places, for the demons, and the calf idols which he had made.” He also rejected the Levites whom God chose as His priests. 2 Chr 11:14 says, “For the Levites left their common-lands and their possessions and came to Judah and Jerusalem, for Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them from serving as priests to the LORD.”

But then Abijah, Solomon’s grandson became king over Judah while Jeroboam was ruling as king of Israel. Abijah was a man who feared God. There was constant fighting between Abijah and Jeroboam. We read in 2 Chr 13:3, “Abijah set the battle in order with an army of valiant warriors, four hundred thousand choice men. Jeroboam also drew up in battle formation against him with eight hundred thousand choice men, mighty men of valor.”

You can see that Abijah had an army of only half the strength compared to the army of Jeroboam and yet he had this much courage to go against Jeroboam and Israel. Not only that, Abijah challenged Jeroboam and Israelites saying 2 Chr 13:4-12, “Then Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the mountains of Ephraim, and said, "Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel: Should you not know that the LORD God of Israel gave the dominion over Israel to David forever, to him and his sons, by a covenant of salt? Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord. Then worthless rogues gathered to him, and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and inexperienced and could not withstand them. And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD, which is in the hand of the sons of David; and you are a great multitude, and with you are the gold calves which Jeroboam made for you as gods. Have you not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests, like the peoples of other lands, so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of things that are not gods? But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and the priests who minister to the LORD are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites attend to their duties. And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense; they also set the showbread in order on the pure gold table, and the lampstand of gold with its lamps to burn every evening; for we keep the command of the LORD our God, but you have forsaken Him. Now look, God Himself is with us as our head, and His priests with sounding trumpets to sound the alarm against you. O children of Israel, do not fight against the LORD God of your fathers, for you shall not prosper!"

But it was complete disaster. First he had only half the number of army. Now his challenge brought greater problem for him as we read further. 2 Chr 13:13-14, “But Jeroboam caused an ambush to go around behind them; so they were in front of Judah, and the ambush was behind them. And when Judah looked around, to their surprise the battle line was at both front and rear.

The army of Abijah was completely surrounded by enemy. Was there any hope for them? There appeared to be no hope whatsoever for their survival. Enemy was ready to destroy their lives and there was no other way out. Abijah, priests of God and people of Judah had no other option except to call upon the name of the Lord. And almighty God came for their rescue.

The last part of 2 Chr 14th verse and 15th verse says that, “and they cried out to the LORD, and the priests sounded the trumpets. Then the men of Judah gave a shout; and as the men of Judah shouted, it happened that God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.”

How awesome our God is! He is the God who hears our prayers and answers our prayers. He is a God who cares for His children. He will never let down those who walk in His ways.

Further we read that Jeroboam and his army were defeated by the hands of Abijah and his army. 2 Chr 13:16, “And the children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand. Then Abijah and his people struck them with a great slaughter; so five hundred thousand choice men of Israel fell slain. Thus the children of Israel were subdued at that time; and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the LORD God of their fathers. And Abijah pursued Jeroboam and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephrain with its villages. So Jeroboam did not recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and the LORD struck him, and he died. But Abijah grew mighty.

My most favorite part of this story is that the enemy could not stand before God's children. They had to flee. No matter how powerful the enemy could be, no matter how he surrounded you, but victory is yours if you relay on the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

My friend, you could be facing a difficult situation in your life and it is possible that you are seeing no hope to come out of your situation. But if you relay on the Almighty God, He will help you. He will come for your rescue and enemy will have to flee and your desperate situation will change. Just as God subdued Jeroboam and his army before Abijah, He can subdue your situation. Just trust in Him, He will come for your rescue.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
