How vulnerable our lives are! Just yesterday a big bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota collapsed and many lives were lost. That was the busiest bridge in Minneapolis where more than 140,000 vehicles passed everyday. Those who passed everyday through that bridge might have never thought even in their wildest dreams that the mighty bridge would collapse and they would fall down. Many were returning from their offices after the whole day of hard work. Did they know that it would be their last moments on the earth? I am sure that if they knew it, they would have taken another route or would never have tried to cross that bridge. This is the world of uncertainty in which we are living in. We do not know when and where our lives will come to an end. But the question is, Are we prepared to meet our creator? Life does not end when we die. Bible tells us that life continues even after death either in heaven or hell. Only those whose sins are forgiven would be in heaven others will be in hell. How much time do we take to prepare ourselves if we have to go and meet high officials or to attend to an important interview. But when it comes to the question of eternal life most of us are very much careless to prepare for the event. My friend, life is short and entirely uncertain. You may never know when and where death will knock at your life’s door. It is better to start preparing today before it is too late.Once a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews came to Jesus and when they were in conversation Jesus said to him in John 3:3, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." But Nicodemus could not understand what that meant and he asked, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" On this Jesus answered in John 3:5-7, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'”Jesus made it clear that when we are born in this world, we are born of the flesh and it is our first birth but we have to be born again in the Spirit. Unless we are born of the spirit we cannot enter into heaven. Now the question is how a person can have the experience of being born again? Bible says in John 1:12-13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”Jesus took all our sins on the cross. Now we have to just accept Him as our Lord and Savior. We have to just receive Him in our lives by repenting from our sins and turning from our evil ways. And those who accept Him, Bible says that eternal life is theirs as we read in John 3:15-18, “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”Are you ready to accept Him in your life? If you say yes then please pray this prayer with me: Lord Jesus I am a sinner. Please forgive and forget all my sins. Wash me with the precious blood you shed on the cruel cross on behalf of me. Today I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Come into my life and give me eternal life so that when I close my eyes in this world, I should open my eyes in your holy presence. Thank you Jesus for giving me eternal life. I give you all the glory and honor. I pray this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.
Awesome God – Part 7
Elijah was the most awesome prophet in the Bible whose unique ministry often demonstrated fire from heaven. Once he challenged all the prophets of Baal. The Israelites worshipped Baal as their god when they came to the Promised Land. They forgot the mighty and awesome God who led them to the Promised Land. Now Elijah came to king Ahab and challenged him and all the prophets of Baal saying prepare one bull, and call on the name of your god but put no fire under it. So they did it and they called their gods until evening but there was no voice, there was no answer. There was no fire from heaven on their altar.But then Elijah built an altar in the name of the Lord and we read in 1 Ki 18:33-39 And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, "Fill four water pots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." Then he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it a second time; and he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again."And it happened that God almighty heard the prayers of Elijah and fire came from heaven as we read in 1 Ki 18:38-39, “Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!"This is the demonstration of the mighty power of God. Many called their gods the whole day even torturing their bodies and yet there was no answer, but When Elijah called upon the name of the almighty God, He answered from heaven. Yes, my friend there is a mighty and powerful God who answers the prayers of His children. Though He is an awesome God yet He responds to the cry of His people. Once Elijah spoke about Ahaziah the king that he will not survive but die because he sent messengers to inquire about his illness to Baal-Zebub (a foreign god). When Ahaziah heard the prophecy of Elijah, he sent a company of fifty men with a captain to bring Elijah before him as we read in 2 Ki 1:9, “Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: "Man of God, the king has said, 'Come down!'" Then we read the very strange reply of Elijah in 2 Ki 1:10, “So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men." And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.”The second time king sent another company of fifty with a captain and the same thing happened to them. In 2 Ki 1:13-15 we read, “Again, he sent a third captain of fifty with his fifty men. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and pleaded with him, and said to him: "Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. Look, fire has come down from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifties with their fifties. But let my life now be precious in your sight." And the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So he arose and went down with him to the king.’How awesome and mighty is the God of ours!! Elijah spoke and fire came down from heaven and protected him from all harms. If you have entrusted your life in to the mighty hands of almighty God, He will keep you safe. He will protect you from all harm. Not only that, Jesus Himself said that if we trust and believe in His mighty power we can do greater works as we read in John 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”Yes, His power is available for His children. Come to Him and give your life to Him. He will use you with His mighty power.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 9th Dec. 2008
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 11th Nov. 2008
