By Sherly Isaac

In my childhood days my mom used to tell us small stories. One of the stories was of a young shepherd who tried to fool his villagers but he himself got into the trap.

In a village there lived a young shepherd. This young shepherd would go everyday to tend his sheep in the jungle with other shepherds. Whenever a lion or bear would come near their whereabouts, they used to alert the villagers. Then the villagers would come with rods and weapons to fight the dangerous animals.

The young shepherd saw this routine almost everyday, the villagers coming and killing those dangerous animals and saving their sheep. One day he thought of joking with the villagers. So he shouted, “Help, help… a lion is here…”. Villagers came with their weapons but to their surprise there was no lion. They returned back to their homes but the young shepherd laughed and enjoyed seeing that his trick had worked. Next day also he played the same trick and the villagers had to return annoyed and angry as they did not find any dangerous animal. But the young shepherd was happy with his tricks that he could fool the villagers.

One day when he was tending his sheep, he actually saw a lion approaching. He tried to alert the villagers shouting and shouting but not even a single villager showed up. He cried and lamented for help but of no avail. The lion took away one of his sheep and the young shepherd looked helplessly seeing the fate of the sheep which was snatched away. His fun and jokes vanished and he knew that it was not a joking matter at all.

Likewise so many imagine thinking that no matter how they live, no matter how they go around fooling others, finally they will be reaching heaven. It is possible that one can fool the people around them but it is not possible to fool God. One day every person has to stand before God. On that day every work and every thought would be exposed.

But there is a day, a day that speaks about salvation, the day of salvation, and that day is now. Next moment may not be promised for you. You do not know what will happen to you the next moment whether you will live or die. But Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart; if you open for Him He will come in and dine with you as we read in Rev 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Bible also tells us in Heb 3:7-8, “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness,”. Yes, open the door of your heart for Him.

The devourer is coming to kill you and destroy you. But Jesus wants to save you from utter destruction. Come to Him, repent from your sins and give your life to Him.

Call upon Me… I will Deliver you

By Sherly Isaac

When I first came to USA, I came to know the wonderful system of dialing 911 number. When you have any emergency just dial 911 and within minutes help arrives at your doorstep. They are equipped to take care of any situation. When you dial 911, the emergency crew shows up at your doorstep without fail. They assist you when you are in dire need.

David who experienced the promptness of God’s response in his life writes in Psa 50:15, “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." David was very young when he discovered the mighty power of God. Being just sixteen, he stood before king Saul asking for permission to challenge Goliath the giant. By utilizing the mighty power of God, he killed Goliath with just one stone from his sling. But king Saul realized on that day that his kingdom was at stake. He sought the life of David. But the amazing thing was that Saul could never catch him. Many times Saul and his army came very near to David but they could not catch him. Can you imagine the king of a country seeking one young boy’s life, yet NEVER could catch him. Why, because God protected David.

As days advanced, king Saul intensified his search but every time God gave David amazing deliverance and protection from all harm.

But David had to run for his life and he wandered in the wilderness. David was in distress and at times he was completely disappointed. He says in 1 Sam 20:3, “…But truly, as the LORD lives and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death." Those who feared Saul, who were in danger from him also ran and joined David. In 1 Sam 21st chapter we read about David who came to the priest Ahimelech and how Ahimelech helped him providing food and sword etc. A man named Doeg from king Saul’s army saw it and informed king. King got so furious about it that he killed the whole family of priest Ahimelech and his father’s house. He also killed eighty-five priests. One of the sons of Ahimelech named Abiathar fled and told David what had happened. David tells him in 1 Sam 22:23, "Stay with me; do not fear. For he who seeks my life seeks your life, but with me you shall be safe."

Bible also says in 1 Sam 22:1-4, “David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. Then David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, "Please let my father and mother come here with you, till I know what God will do for me." So he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.”

David’s brothers who were in King Saul’s army also came and joined David. His parents had to leave their country and go to Moab. David chose to send his parents in Moab probably because his great-grandmother Ruth was from Moab, he may have family ties there.

David’s situation continued like this for months and years. He was running for his life, his family was scattered, his future was uncertain and bleak. In those desperate moments God alone was his strength and shield. In those times of dire need, he called upon the name of the Lord and every time God showed up at his doorstep with His help. And a day came in his life when he became the king of Israel.

Yes, my friend, are you going through terrible trials today? Probably you are facing unending problems, no hope to come out of those circumstances and you may feel as if your future is bleak. But if you call upon the mighty name of Jesus, He will come for your rescue. He will deliver you and bring you out of uncertainty just as He did for David and for his family.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
