Often we receive mails with desperate prayer requests. Once a person wrote to us, “I am in a strange land where I came as an employee. My employer is not answering my calls. Now I do not have any money to pay for my rent and also not having any money to eat… please pray.” Another person wrote, “My mother is very sick. I got transferred to another place and my employer is asking me to join there from the next Monday. What should I do now…? Who will take care of my mother…?” Another sister wrote to us like this, “A week ago, I lost my two year old son who accidentally got drowned in river and he was my only child. Ever since I lost him, I have no peace, no joy in my life…” Another person wrote to us, “I am not able to pay my rent and am afraid of being left in the streets…” Some would write, “We are at the brink of losing our home, car and belongings…” Some would say that they are about to be separated from their spouses and do not know what to do….

Oh, It overwhelms us and breaks our heart. At times I pray to God, “Father, if you will not help them then who will help them?” Naturally speaking, of course there appears to have no hope or help possible in those desperate situations. But there is an almighty God who can do everything, no matter how hard and desperate your situation could be, He can help.

Bible talks about a young man named Daniel who was in such a desperate situation where even the king of the country - the highest authority of that country could not help him though he was eager to help.

In the book of Daniel 6th chapter we read that king Darius set one hundred and twenty satraps over his whole kingdom. Over all these satraps he set three governors and one of the governor was Daniel to whom satraps might give account to them. In Daniel 6:3 we read that Daniel was different from all of them and that he excelled above every satraps and governors. Dan 6:3, “Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.”

Because Daniel excelled above every one of them, they did not like it and so they tried to find fault, error or charge against him but could not. So they came up with a new scheme as we read in Dan 6:5-9, “Then these men said, "We shall not find any charge against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God." So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: "King Darius, live forever! All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. "Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter." Therefore King Darius signed the written decree.”

And further we read in Dan 6:10, “Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.”

Cutting the long story short, Daniel was thrown into the den of lions. The king could not overturn his own order because of the rule of that country. Even the king did not like the idea of throwing Daniel in the lion’s den but he was helpless. He tried to save Daniel but could not as we read in Dan. 6:14-15, “And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, "Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed."

See, how desperate the situation was through which Daniel had to go through. His chances of survival were nil. The hands of the only source of help, the authority who could only have done something to relieve him were tied. The satraps and governors forced the king to agree to put Daniel in the lion’s den. Finally Daniel had to be thrown into the den of lions. It devastated the king himself. In the next morning, the king went to the den and cried out (Dan 6:20-22) And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?" Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you."

Yes, my friend, there is a God who can even send His angels to shut the mouths of lions. He can shut the mouths of your enemies who threaten to eat you up in minutes. Are you afraid of your circumstances today? Look to Jesus He can help you.

He shall give you the Desires of your Heart

By Sherly Isaac

Psa 37:4, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

While writing these psalms, David was not in any way philosophical, but was expressing his own experience how God blessed his life when he trusted in Him and gave first place to Him. Jesus also says not to worry like the gentiles who do not believe in Him. And further He says in Mat 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Once I was watching the interview of the American missionary, Gracia Burnham. She and her husband Martin Burnham were kidnapped by a terrorist group in Malaysia and they were held as captives for more than a year. Gracia who was rescued from captivity told her experience when she was in the midst of terror and fear, how God fulfilled even the smallest desire of her heart. She said that they were not fed properly for days together. At times they will pass on only salt to eat. Once she wanted to eat burgers but she knew very well that there was no chance of having burger in the Malaysian jungles where they were kept as hostages. But to her surprise in the evening some of the terrorists brought burgers from the nearby town and gave them. In one another incident she desired to have shampoo and soaps to take proper bath. She said that from nowhere she got a packet of deodorants etc. and it surprised her too.

A few months back I attended one meeting where Bro. P. G. Varghese from Delhi, India was the speaker. His messages were very powerful. He told about one incident which happened when he went to preach in the Middle East. One day prior to his departure, a lady requested him to preach in the afternoon meeting also. As he had already to speak in two meetings and as he had only a very short time at his disposal for arranging his luggage etc, he was not in a mood to comply with her request. But as the lady insisted too much he spoke in that afternoon meeting also. When he was about to leave that place, the same lady brought five kilograms (about 10 pounds) of Kentucky fried chicken packed for him. He asked her, “Why did you bring this thing for me?” She said, “Because God told me to give it to you.”

Bro. P. G. Varghese returned home and was in conversation with his wife. It was early morning. His wife hurriedly left for kitchen and said, “I have to prepare breakfast for children, we will talk later.” Then Bro. P. G. Varghese said, “Don’t worry about breakfast, I have Kentucky fried chicken in my bag.” When she heard that, she started crying. Bro. P. G. Varghese asked her what made her to cry like that. She replied, “Last week our daughter and I went for shopping. When I was purchasing beef, she said, ‘Mommy, I am sick and tired of eating this beef everyday, why don’t we purchase chicken today?’” She went to the chicken shop but it was very costly. She quickly calculated her budget and the money available with her. She thought, "if I have to purchase chicken, I will have to cut on other items." So she dropped the idea of purchasing chicken (In India chicken is much more costlier than beef). She came back home with a very heavy heart thinking that she was not even able to feed her daughter her desired item.

But to her surprise, God sent the chicken from the Middle East. Yes, there is a mighty and awesome God who cares for us and who wants to fulfill even the smallest desires of our heart. When we seek Him with all our heart, He blesses us. That is the reason why Jesus said, “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
