Last week we saw how two persons who lived foolish lives and also died foolishly. They were chasing after worldly and material things that are perishable. One of them was Saul who was always trying to hold on to his kingdom. If anybody came between his kingdom and him, he wanted to get rid of him at any cost. And for that purpose in view, he pursued David to destroy him through out his life. But God protected David because he walked in the ways of God.The second person we saw about was Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples of Jesus Christ. His love of money doomed him and he died a pathetic death. He was so greedy after money that he even stole money from the moneybox. Money was the reason that prompted him to betray Jesus. Money was the reason that made him to take that drastic step in handing over Jesus just for thirty pieces of silver.You can see how people chase vanity and live in vainly. Today we are going to see about king Solomon who chased after women. No matter how many women he had as his wives, his heart still wanted more women. His desire for women never ceased. At one point he took the daughter of Pharaoh as his wife. Once the Israelites had been slaves in Egypt and there, they were under Pharaoh, but God had miraculously brought them out of their bondage. But king Solomon put aside his relationship with God and made spiritual compromise bringing foreign wives into his life who turned his heart from God. We read in 1 Ki 11:1-3, But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites; from the nations of whom the LORD had said to the children of Israel, "You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods." Solomon clung to these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.The later days of Solomon were completely devastating. He did everything wrong, things which were forbidden by God like making idols and worshipping them. 1 Ki 11:4-8, For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God, as was the heart of his father David. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not fully follow the LORD, as did his father David. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.”In short he did everything that would provoke God and make Him angry. When God sent prophets to him to tell him what was wrong with him, he tried to kill them. You can see that how much he was blinded by vanity and foolishness.That is the reason why Bible says in 1 John 2:16-17, “For all that is in the world; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life; is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”Yes, this world is passing away… this world is dying. But those who walk in the will of God will abide forever. No matter how much money you have amassed, no matter how many big degrees you might have acquired, no matter in what big status you could be in society, they will all end one day, but if you live for Jesus that will only last forever. So stop pursuing vanity and start pursuing God.
Once my dad went on his official tour to a big city and we also went with him. In front of the hotel where we were staying there was a small rose garden. The garden had many beautiful roses. Our eyes were set on orange shaded roses, they were the most beautiful among them. We all wanted those beautiful roses in our home too. After returning we tried to bring cuttings or plants but those orange roses never grew in our home. Slowly we realized that orange roses are hard to grow and we thought that it may never grow in our home. It was frustrating, but we all lost our hopes on growing orange roses.Days and months passed by. Meanwhile all of us got saved. Later on we moved to our own house. When we came to our newly constructed house, there was nothing in the garden. We purchased mixed colored roses and planted in our garden. It all started to grow. When flowers started to bloom, to our surprise most of them were orange roses. How it happened we did not know. Mom said, "we longed for orange roses and finally God fulfilled the desires of our heart." The long forgotten dreams, long forgotten desires of our hearts, came into reality though we did not ask for it. Though we forgot about those dreams yet God did not. He did bring it to pass. Yes, my friend, there is a God who cares for us and wants to give our heart's desire. Psalmist says in Psa 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart." We also read in Psa 84:11, "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly."He will not withhold any good things from those who walk uprightly. You might have dreams that could have been long forgotten by you. You could have given up all your hopes regarding those dreams. Look to Jesus, He will not fail you. He will bring your long forgotten dreams to reality.Once I read an article of Beth Moore, a renowned preacher. She was waiting for flight in one airport. One old man was sitting in a wheelchair. His hair was a mess and he was wearing oversized dress. She tried to read her Bible but could not remove the thoughts that came into her mind regarding that man. The more she tried to turn away from the thoughts about that person the more she thought about this man. She felt that God was working in her heart to do something. She earnestly implored God that she will be witnessing to him in the plane but not at that time. But she heard the clear voice of God saying, "Beth, I am not asking you to witness, but to go and comb his hair." She felt uncomfortable to do that. More than that she had no comb as her luggage was already in the plane. But finally she went near him and knelt down and started asking, “Sir, could I have the pleasure of brushing your hair?” The person was unable to hear and so he asked her to repeat louder what she was saying. She had to speak louder and others who were standing in the airport also started looking towards them. Cutting the long story short, she untangled every knot and combed his hair. Finally she asked, “Sir, do you know my Jesus?” He said, “yes, I do.” He told her that, his bride would not marry him until he accepted Jesus. And today he was going to meet her after many months because he had open-heart surgery and she could not come because she was also very sick. He said further, “I've just been sitting here in this airport thinking to myself, 'What a mess I must be for my bride.'"But God saw it from heaven and sent Beth Moore to comb his hair. Yes, there is a God who cares even the smallest things of ours. If you love Him, He will give you the desires of your heart. I can say with the Psalmist, "Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart."

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
