John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."If you read these verses very carefully then you can understand that it does not tell that you will be a child of God if you are born in a Christian family. But it clearly says that an experience with God gives the right to become a child of God. Further, in the 3rd chapter of John, Jesus speaks to a scholar, a very learned man on scriptures who knew the scriptures very well. Jesus told him that unless a person is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. The Bible gives a description about this scholar in John 3:1, "a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews..." When this scholar heard Jesus' saying of being Born Again he was astonished. Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" In John 3:5-8, Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."Jesus spoke about the Spiritual rebirth of a person which does not happen when a child is born or when baptized in church or when dedicated in church but it happens when a person repents from his/her sins and turn to God. It happens when that person invites Jesus in his/her life. It is a personal experience with God and no religious ritual or any other means could ever bring about that experience.Once two ladies came to our house. When we offered some sweets to them, one of them said, "I cannot eat because my teeth is aching." My sister asked a few questions to know what her real condition was and about the symptom of the problem she had. After hearing her symptom my sister gave the solution of her problem. The other lady was a dental doctor. She was completely amazed hearing the talk and the solution. She asked, "how do you know all these things having not studied in a dental school?" My sister replied, "I know it because of my own experience. Because I eat so much sweets, my two teeth have been removed and I had the same symptom." Only a person who has experience can explain it fully. There is a saying in India that unless you taste the mango, you cannot tell what kind of sweetness the fruit has. It could be possible that you have read and heard about the fruit and even would have seen the fruit but if you have not tasted it, you cannot say what type of taste it has. The same thing is about knowing God in your personal life. Unless you have tasted Him, unless you have experienced Him, you will never be able to know who God is and how much He loves us. It is possible that you have been born in a Christian family, probably you have read the Bible hundreds of times, and read and heard about Jesus many times but if you do not know Jesus personally, you are not a child of God and you have no part with God. Unless your sins are forgiven, unless you have received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you cannot enter into heaven. But knowing Him is also very easy. Just come before Him, repent from your sins and ask Him to come into your life and to give you eternal life that will never fade away. He will surely do it.
The Golden Window
When I was a little child I read a story called "Sunhari Khidki" (The Golden Window). The story was about a small boy who was residing on a mountain. Every morning while getting up he used to see on the neighboring hill a very beautiful golden thing, very shiny and beautiful. He became so curious that he decided to go there and find out what it was. Finally one day he started from his house to go and see that beautiful golden thing which had attracted him for such a long time. He walked, climbing the hill, to reach there and when he reached there it was evening time. The sun was going down and he desperately looked here and there. He could see every thing else except the golden thing. With a long sigh he turned to go home. As he turned and looked towards his house he was stunned! He could not move. He saw the same golden thing in his house, and he realized that the golden thing was nothing but the window, which was glowing because of sun's rays reflecting from it.When he started from his house the sun was rising, and he could see the window of the house on the neighboring hill which was shining because of morning sun; and he thought that it was something very special. But when he reached there and looked towards his own house he saw the same thing because the sun was going down and it was now shining on his house. Dear friend, our condition is also like the experience of this small boy who wanted that beautiful golden thing but could not recognize the sun light which was reflected and shined from the window. Bible says in John 1:9-11 "That was the true Light (Jesus), which lighteth every man that comes into the world. He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not." Even today many do not recognize Him. When Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins, when He tries to speak through our conscience, are we ready to hear His voice and yield to His voice? That is the reason why Bible says in Hebr 3:15, "While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation."After the death of Jesus, some were searching Him among the dead. Luk 24:4-7, And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, "saying, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.'"Even today many search Him in wrong places and do not find Him. They go in circles of rituals and traditions. They work very hard to earn the salvation of their souls. They think that by sacrificing their lives they could somehow earn forgiveness of their sins. But Jesus has already given His precious life for our sins and no other sacrifice will do any good for us. And the Bible promised us in Mat. 7:7, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."To those who are searching the truth in wrong places, I want to tell that 'Truth' is none other than Jesus Himself, Who came down in this world to die for us so that our sins could be forgiven, Who shed His precious blood on the cruel cross so that we could have eternal life. Today His forgiveness as well as Eternal life is available for us.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 13th Jan. 2009
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 13th Jan. 2009
