By Sherly Isaac

This coming Sunday is Father's Day. As for as my memory goes I remember my Dad was very strict to follow religious rituals. He always told us that no matter what happens we should go to Church and he also never missed a service. We had family prayer everyday in our home. My dad tried to follow everything which was prescribed by the pastors. In those days I always thought how boring it was to go to Church or to attend Sunday school and more over Sundays were the only holidays from school but still it was compulsory for us to get ready early morning to go for Church. I believe that my parents did all these things week after week to please God and seek His favor and blessings in our lives. He also tried to build a foundation in God for our lives.

Though my dad was not saved at that time yet he tried to live a righteous life. We never saw him drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes. He also taught us that we should never drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. He tried to follow the moral teachings of the Bible. Despite all these things, despite all the acts of righteousness my parents were far from God.

Once my brother asked my dad that, "I heard a message in the Church that all Christians are not going to heaven unless they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior", we are Christian from birth, so do we have to do that?" My dad told him, "Do you believe that Jesus died for the sins of the world?" Yes, my brother said. "Then you do not need to do anything, you are going to heaven..." it was the reply of my dad. But soon we all discovered that our good works, our righteous deeds could never be able to achieve salvation of our souls. One by one we all turned to Christ and we all gave our lives to Christ.

I cannot explain how different this experience was than following religious rituals. Religious rituals never gave us any peace or joy but when we accepted Jesus and invited Him to come into our lives and in our home our hearts were filled with great joy and unspeakable peace that we had never experienced in our lives before. Our home which was often stormy experienced calmness as it happened when Jesus spoke to the raging waves and there was great calm as we read in Mat 8:26, "And he said unto them, Why are you fearful, O you of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm."

Then and then only we knew that our religious deeds will never give us forgiveness of our sins or salvation of our souls. We realized that our righteous deeds were all like filthy rags before God and we had nothing to pay for our salvation. Instead we realized that we need to come into a relationship with God as father and child. We needed to accept Him as our Lord and Savior.

And for this very purpose Jesus came in this world. He took all our sins on the cross. When a person comes to Him and asks for his/her forgiveness, God gladly forgives and forgets all sins he/she has committed and gives the right to become His child. We read in Jhn 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

In this father's day, it is my wish and prayers that you could recognize God as your father and come into that relationship with Him. There is no greater joy than this to know God as Father.

Happy Father's Day to all Fathers!

JehovahJireh - God is Our Provider -Part 3

By Sherly Isaac

In the last two issues we have seen how God provided for different peoples in their dire needs. When we go through the whole Bible, we see that God is a mighty provider. He does not turn back those who call upon His name. When the Israelites were brought out of Egypt they had no one except God who could provide for them. To feed and to quench the thirst of at least 2.4 million people was not an easy job. It was almost impossible task because they were in the wilderness. But they lacked nothing. Deu 2:7, "For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing." ' Neh 9:21, "Forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; They lacked nothing; Their clothes did not wear out And their feet did not swell."

Deu 29:5, "And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet."

This was the love and care of God for the Israelites. Forty long years they walked across the wilderness and their feet did not swell nor did their sandals wear out. Their clothes did not wear out. In this 21st century, we need to buy clothes and shoes every six months but look at the lives of the Israelites more than 4000 years ago. Despite all their odds they survived. They lacked nothing because God was their provider, God was their sustainer.
The same God, who provided for the Israelites, can provide for you if you are His child.

We read about another person called David who had experienced the provision of God in his life and in his family's life when he was running for his life in wilderness, hiding in caves and in places which were not familiar to him, not knowing from where the next meal will come for him and for his men. God provided everything David needed to survive and also protection from his mighty enemy who was not an ordinary person but was the king of Israel. But almighty God provided for him, kept him alive and a day came when God fulfilled His promise for David.

This is the love of God for His children. He is the mighty provider. Today, you may be afraid, you may be in tears, you may be thinking, 'who will help me? From where help will come for me?' The psalmist has answer for this question in Psalms 121. Psa 121:1-8, I WILL lift up my eyes to the hills, From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore."

These are the promises of God for those who fear Him, for those who walk in His ways and more than that for those who are His own children by the shed blood of Jesus. If you are not a child of God, come to Him. Repent from your sins and give your life to Jesus. He will forgive and forget all your sins and will give you the authority to become a child of God.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
