By Sherly Isaac

Last week there was shooting in Fort Hood, Texas where Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, a Muslim shot and killed 13 fellow soldiers who were about to be deployed to Iraq. This is a crime beyond our comprehension. We just cannot understand why anybody would do this to others, that is, to kill others?

By doing this horrific crime he thought that he was serving Allah. According to Islam a person could achieve salvation of his soul, only if he kills infidels in Jihad. But the Bible says that a person cannot achieve salvation by killing others. Obama the president of United States of America said in his speech, "No just and loving God looks upon them with favor. For what he has done, we know that the killer will be met with justice -- in this world, and the next."

Bible talks about a God who is just, who does not tolerate violence against anybody. In the Bible we read about the murder of Abel. This was the first murder mentioned in the Bible. Abel's own brother Cain killed him. But God did not keep quiet, He not only questioned Cain but also punished him as we read in Gen 4:5-11, "but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?" And He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground. So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand."

God of the Bible does not tolerate violence and from Genesis to revelation He maintains the same principle of non-violence. Bible even compares hatred as murder in 1John 3:15, "Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." Bible defines hate for others as the crime of murder. If a person hates someone, he/she is already a murderer and he/she is not heading to heaven but to hell fire. Murder, violence and sins separate us from God for eternity.

But Jesus came in this world to wash away our sins and hatred from our hearts. He came in this world and gave His precious life for us so that we could come out of our sins and have eternal life. If we just turn to Him, He is ready to forgive and forget all our sins. He is ready to remove our hatred from our hearts and fill us with His divine love. On the cruel cross Jesus loved and prayed for the people who mocked Him, who spat on Him, who rejected Him, who beat Him, who did all kinds of insult to Him. He said, "Father forgive them because they do not know what they are doing." This was the love of Jesus for His enemies and for those who hurt Him and did bad to Him.

The same Jesus is ready to forgive and forget all our sins. No matter how far you have gone without Him, you can still come to Him and ask forgiveness of your sins. Jesus is ready to forgive and forget all your sins and more than that He is ready to give you eternal life. This is a life that will never fade away. He is ready to give this wonderful life to you.

Hope for the Hopeless - Part 10

By Sherly Isaac

Gen 12:10-13, "Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land. And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, "Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, 'This is his wife'; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you."

Abraham was in a strange land and now he was facing a new trouble. There was famine in the land. He had much live stock, male and female servants. It was not easy to feed them when there was shortage of food in the land. So he decided to go and dwell in Egypt. When he was about to reach Egypt, he said to his wife Sarah, "Look you are beautiful and when they look at you they will let you live but they will kill me, so do me a favor and tell them that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you." Now Sarah agreed to obey her husband and did what he told her to say.

Bible tells us that she was in great trouble because of her one simple statement that she was Abraham's sister. Because of her statement she was taken to the palace of Pharaoh so that she could become king's wife.

For Sarah, all hopes were lost. Could she ever see her husband again? Naturally speaking, there was no hope for her. Her life appeared to have come to a grinding halt. How her heart would have cried. To save his own life, her husband just gave her up. But let me tell you my friend, there is a God who sees our tears and comes to our rescue. When Sarah's heart was crying in despair and hopelessness, God came for her rescue as we read in Gen 12:17, "But the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife." And the Bible further says that Pharaoh released her and let her go.

I don't know how many years passed between the Genesis chapter 12 and 20 but Abraham did the same mistake in the 20th chapter and had the same consequence. We read in Gen 20:1-2 And Abraham journeyed from there to the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar. Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah."

Once again Sarah was taken to the house of another king named Abimelech. I am not sure if it is appropriate to say that Sarah was kidnapped? But she was once again in great trouble. I have heard stories of girls who were kidnapped and they live in nightmare. Fear rules in their lives and they do not know whether they will have the same nightmare again. When we read the story of Sarah, it just does not look so terrible but Sarah only knows how her heart would have cried. When her own husband forsaken her, God never left her. He again came for her rescue. In Gen 20:3-8 we read, "But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, "Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man's wife. But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, "Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also? Did he not say to me, 'She is my sister'? And she, even she herself said, 'He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this." And God said to him in a dream, "Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours." So Abimelech rose early in the morning, called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were very much afraid."

And God restored Sarah as we read in Gen 20:14, "Then Abimelech took sheep, oxen, and male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham; and he restored Sarah his wife to him."

Are you in the same position where Sarah was where her own husband refused to perform his duty of a protector and gave her up just to save his own life? It is possible that you might have lost hope of your life. But the same God who gave protection to Sarah and came for her rescue is alive today. He is ready to help you and rescue you from your situation no matter how hopeless it could seem. Just come to Him and give your life to Him. He will be with you and He will love you more than any human being could ever love you. He would be faithful more than any human being could ever show faithfulness to you. Just come to Him and give your life to Him. He will restore your life.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
