By Sherly Isaac

This is Mother's day weekend. Today I have a great story of a mother whose sorrows turned into joy and whose tears turned into laughter. Her name is Hannah. Hannah was a married woman and was beloved of her husband yet her heart was broken because she had no children. Every year they would go to the temple of God for worship and sacrifice. There was another wife of her husband and she was very critical about Hannah and made her life more miserable. Bible tells us in 1Samuel 1:6, "And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the LORD had closed her womb."

Hannah was a broken hearted woman. Her husband's love and good, comforting words could not ease her pain. She would cry and cry and did not eat food. She felt miserable and without hope. She was a woman of sorrow.

But what I like the most in this wonderful woman is that she put her trust in God. No one could understand her pain; no one could understand her sorrow and the heartbreak through which she was going, but she trusted in the Almighty God who could wipe away her tears. One day she decided to pour her heart at the feet of God. So when they went to the house of God and when they all ate food, she went to the tabernacle of God and she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish. (1Samuel 1:10)

As David says in Psa 142:1-2, "I cry out to the LORD with my voice; With my voice to the LORD I make my supplication. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble." She went in the presence of God and even forgot about her surroundings and poured out her heart before God. We read in 1Samuel 1:11 that she made a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head."

When Eli the priest looked at her, he thought that she was drunk but in 1Samuel 1:15-18, "Hannah answered and said, "No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD. Do not consider your maidservant a wicked woman, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have spoken until now." Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him." And she said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your sight." So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad."

Hannah's circumstances did not change immediately but she knew that her prayers have been answered. She knew that God had granted her petition and her face was no longer sad. Later she had a son and she gave him the name Samuel. In the second chapter we can read the happy song of Hannah whose heart was full of gratitude for God who did mighty deeds in her life.

Isn't it a marvelous story! Yes, there is a mighty and wonderful God who loves us, who cares for us and who wants to wipe away our tears. What He did for Hannah, He can do for you even today. No matter what your problem could be, no matter how impossible it could look, no matter how hopeless it could seem, nothing is impossible with the God of Israel.

Just come to Him and pour out your heart before Him and He will answer your cry from heaven. And you will rejoice like Hannah.

Happy mother's day to all mothers out there!

Wrong choices

By Sheela Isaac

Proverb 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

There are ways which look right to people but that leads to destruction. As we all know that recently the
Times Square bomber left a bomb in SUV in Times Square NY to kill people. Well everybody knows that if you kill somebody you end up in jail but here is a man who thought it to be the right thing to do. He is well educated and is from a wealthy family but still he could not understand the very simple truth that his deeds could totally destroy his life. Not only did he destroy his own life but also destroyed the lives of people who were around him and were connected to him. That's what sin does to one. One wrong choice could ruin yours as well as your loved ones lives forever. His one wrong choice not only landed him in prison for life but it could take away his eternity for ever if he fails to repent for his sin in the presence of Jesus.

How many times we make wrong choices in our life not knowing the outcome. Look at the life of Judas Iscariot. The one who was with Jesus for three and half years. The one who saw all the mighty miracles Jesus had performed. The one who heard His messages and knew well that He had come from God. But one wrong choice did ruin his life on earth and eternal life. His love of money was the major enemy in his life. Love of money had blinded him so much that he forgot the important things. He forgot the messages and the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ. He forgot about the life after death and eternal life. He forgot that he was just a traveler in this world and that he had to leave everything, one day. He forgot that on one day he had to face the reality. Well he loved money more than Jesus and the same love of money betrayed him. He might have thought that he was playing a clever game but he betrayed his own soul for eternity. He traded his soul for money. What a pity. Bible says that love of money is the root of all evil. 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Yes when a person tries to run after money he puts his soul in trouble. How many times people forget that if you run after Jesus, He will take care of your life. You don't need to worry about your future but your future is in the safe hands of Jesus. When we give our life in the safe hands of Jesus He brings peace and joy into our lives and then the things of this world begin to look insignificant and small.

Judas acquired thirty pieces of silver by betraying Jesus but he could not enjoy it. How many times people amass money with greed through evil ways but they don't get a chance to enjoy it. Judas not only lost the thirty pieces of sliver but he lost his life because of it. He was filled with remorse and guilt that he committed suicide and lost eternity too. The thirty pieces of silver brought that pathetic and painful end for him. One wrong choice made by Judas brought horrible end for him. Mat 27:3 -5, "Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself."

The Bible says that he was remorseful for what he did but then again he made another wrong choice. Instead of repenting from his sin before Jesus he repented before the chief priest and elders and hung himself and ended his life. Had he repented before Jesus the outcome might have been very different? I am sure Jesus would have forgiven him and given him life eternal. See that his remorse and feeling sorry did not save him because he repented at the wrong place. In fact, it did not clear the guilt that's why he hung himself. The key is when we repent before Jesus, He not only forgives our sin, but He also takes away the remorse and guilt and gives us peace and joy instead.

Look at the life of Peter. He too made a wrong choice in his life by denying Jesus. He was with Jesus for three and half years like Judas was. When he saw that Jesus was arrested and was tried, it looks that he was very much disappointed and his hopes came crashing down. He was so scared that he denied Jesus three times saying that he did not know Him.

Mat 26:69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, "You also were with Jesus of Galilee."
Mat 26:70 But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are saying."
Mat 26:71 And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, "This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth."
Mat 26:72 But again he denied with an oath, "I do not know the Man!"
Mat 26:73 And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, "Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you."
Mat 26:74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying, "I do not know the Man!" Immediately a rooster crowed.

Well but the right thing he did was that he did not commit suicide but he wept and repented. Mat 26:75, "And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly." He denied three times and then when Jesus asked him three times the question, "do you love me?" He did say, "Yes". His true repentance before Jesus brought him back and he could avoid eternal destruction.

It is true repentance which brings life eternal. You might have made wrong choices in your life but you can still come out of it by asking for forgiveness of your sin to Jesus. Just making pity party and feeling sorry doesn't change anything but we need to come to Jesus with real repentance. Many think that they believe in Jesus but they never experience the real salvation. Why? Because they never confess and repent from their sin and they never turn around. We must not forget that remorse and feeling sorry doesn't change anybody's life but real repentance does. For a real change we need to come to Jesus who is the real creator of us all and who had paid the full price for our redemption on the Cross. Only the blood of Jesus has ability to cleanse our lives and make it holy. Only the blood of Jesus has ability to remove the sin, guilt and shame from our lives.

Have you ever come to Jesus with a repentant heart? Have you ever repented from your sin? Have you ever asked for forgiveness of your sin to Jesus? If not, today is the time to make a decision. Today is the time to make an account straight with Jesus. Come and receive life eternal. Come and receive total redemption from all your sin. Jesus is ready to give you eternal life. If you are ready to surrender your life into the precious hands of Jesus. Please pray this prayer with me.

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I believe that you came down into this world to die for me. I believe that because of your shed blood I can have eternal life. Please come into my heart. Please forgive and forget my sin. I repent of my sin and I make you Lord of my life. Wash me with your precious blood and cleanse my life. Lord I praise you for hearing my humble prayer and for coming into my life. I praise you Lord. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
