Bible tells us about Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him, there by playing a great role in the crucifixion of Jesus. Some believe that what Judas did was pre-planned by God. But it is not true.

If we look at the background of Judas and the time he spent with Jesus, we can understand that he chose wrong things in his life and the result was his own doom. He had plenty of time to accept Jesus and to obtain His forgiveness. He had plenty of time to choose eternal life, but he missed this most privileged opportunity. Though he was with Jesus for more than three years, he could not recognize Jesus and His ability to forgive sins.

It appears that Judas could never understand what Jesus was trying to tell him and others. But his eyes were focused on worldly money. He was just interested in the money of this world and did not pay attention to the achieving of eternal life.

He worked as treasurer and had the money box always with him. Once when Jesus was invited to dine in a home and as Jesus was sitting there, Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. (John 12:3-6)

When he was steeling money, he might never have thought that one day it would become his addiction and that one day he would be tempted to commit that big crime. Probably he ignored the saving grace of Jesus.

In my childhood my mom used to tell a story. There lived a mother and his young son. In his young age her son would steel small things like pen, pencil or rubber etc. from his fellow schoolmates. And whenever he brought those things from school, his mother never discouraged him from steeling. On the other hand she encouraged him. As he grew his addiction also grew. First he was committing only small burglaries, but later on he started to steel big things.

One day he broke in to a home and as he was steeling things, the home owner woke up. He tried to flee away but could not, so he took out his knife and killed the owner of the house. But soon police caught him and a day came when he was supposed to be executed. He was asked what his last wish was and he replied that he wanted to see his mother. When his mother arrived, he said, "had you stopped me when I committed small thefts, I would have not seen this day!"

Judas finally went to the chief priests and elders, and for thirty pieces of silver he betrayed Jesus. His love for money brought him to the point where he could not realize what he was doing. Had he repented and turned to Jesus when he was committing small thefts, Jesus would have forgiven him and would have given him a new life. But he simply ignored Jesus and His ability to forgive.

When Jesus died on the cross, he felt remorseful but again he went to the wrong place to ask for forgiveness of his sin. He went back to the chief priests and elders and said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. Mat 27:4-5

Thus he lost the last chance to repent and turn to Jesus. All these things tell us that it was Judas who willfully chose to betray Jesus and that it was not a pre-plan of God.

Even today, if you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, turn to Him by repenting your sins. He will forgive and forget all your sins and will give you a new life.

Women Disciples of Jesus! Part 3

By Sherly Isaac

Bible talks about many women who followed Jesus as we read in Mat 27:55-56, "And many women who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to Him, were there looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons."

But probably the most interesting is the case of Mary, the mother of Jesus who was an ardent follower of Jesus. Young Mary loved the Lord and was a righteous woman. Her life was dedicated to the Lord. In her own words she was saved as we read in Luk 1:47, "And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior." She feared God as she says in Luk 1:50, "And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation."

Because of her love and dedication towards God, He chose her to be a vessel to bring Messiah in this world so that all humanity could be saved from sin.

When Jesus was born and when the shepherds came to worship Jesus and told about the angels who met them praising God, all those who heard it, marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:18-19)

She was full of faith in Jesus that He could solve any problem. In the wedding feast in Cana of Galilee there was no wine. She came to Jesus and told about the embarrassing situation their host was facing. And we see Jesus' first and mighty miracle that He performed there. He turned simple water into wine. Those who tasted it were amazed.

When Jesus was crucified, when He died and was buried, she was again a witness of all these events. Her heart was severely broken but her faith in Jesus was not shaken at all. She was among those women who saw the empty tomb and saw the risen Lord and witnessed to others.

In acts chapter 1 we read about Jesus' instruction for His disciples when He appeared to many after His resurrection. He said in Act 1:4-5, And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." And in Act 1:8-9, "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

Bible further tells us that after the ascension of Jesus to heaven, the disciples returned to Jerusalem, went up to the upper room and when they were praying, they got filled with Holy Spirit. Mary the mother of Jesus was among this group of disciples along with other women.

Yes, she was among them who received the Holy Spirit. We read in Act 1:12-14, "Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

Yes, my friend, if Mary who got the highest honor to be called the mother of Jesus needed to accept Jesus as her Savior and needed to get filled with the Holy Spirit, then how much more we need salvation of our souls and power from above!

All the blessings that are spoken of in Bible are for every person regardless of gender, cast, creed, nationality or color. If we humble ourselves and turn to Jesus, He is ready to accept us and forgive our sins. He is ready to give us a new life and to fill us with Holy Spirit.

We don't know whether Paul writes about the same Mary or not as he says in Rom 16:6, "Greet Mary, who labored much for us." But I am sure that you too can do much for Jesus! Just come to Him and invite Him in your life. Your life will never be the same again.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
