1Cor 12:28, "And God has set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues."

Last week we saw the last of the ministries given to the Church ", diversities of tongues" and that there are two types of tongues mentioned in the Bible. One is sign and the other, gift of tongues. Last week we looked into the differences between these two types of tongues. The gift of tongues is a very unique gift and it is one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit spoken off by Paul in 1Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues,"

The Galileans who were ordinary people when they were filled with Holy Spirit, spoke in new languages. Many who were of different nations heard these Galileans speaking in their own languages. It really amazed them because the Galileans did not know their language. We read in Act 2:4-12, "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs--we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God." So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "Whatever could this mean?"

Once I heard a true story that one preacher went to preach in a different place. He did not know the native language. One night he was preaching and he did not know that an armed man had come to kill him. After preaching he started to pray and praise God in tongues. A few moments later the hit man came running to the front weeping and repenting from his sin. He was screaming, "I am that hit man about whom you were speaking". The preacher asked his interpreter what the matter was and the interpreter told him that when he spoke in tongues, he spoke the native language and said, "there is a man who came with weapon to kill but if he repents, Jesus can forgive him." So the man came forward repenting.

Yes, the gift of tongues is a precious gift and God wants to give it to His children. That is the reason why Paul says in 1Cor 12:1, "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant"

But I wonder how many of our churches believe in these precious gifts of God?

Hope for hopeless

By Sherly Isaac

One day Jesus was walking down to the city called Nain and many of His disciples were with Him and a big crowd. When Jesus came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When Jesus saw the mother, He was moved with compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep."

Oh, this was the only child of a widowed mother and probably the only bread winner in the family. What this poor mother would do without her only son? She was a mother who was completely desperate and completely devastated. She didn't know where to turn. When Jesus looked at her face, He could see beyond her face, a face of desperation, a face of devastation. She desperately needed a miracle and she desperately needed her son back. And Jesus knew it in a split second. Bible says in Luk 7:14-15, "Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother."

By presenting the young man to his mother Jesus gave hope for a hopeless mother who lost her everything. Have you lost your hope today? The same Jesus is alive today and He is able to give you hope in your hopeless situation. He is ready to bring your hopes alive if you just look to Him.

When Jesus walked in this earth, He gave hope to many, He healed the sick, raised the dead, wiped away the tears of the needy and the poor. But a day came in His own life when He was desperate and lonely. In the garden of Gethsemane He cried out and said in Mar 14:34, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful unto death." Can you imagine, the creator of this world in such a hopeless and helpless condition. He was full of sorrow before His death. Why He was in such a hopeless situation? Because all the sins of this world was laid on Him and He was about to die for the sins of mankind.

Yes, His life was poured out to redeem us from hopeless and helpless situations. He gave His precious life for us to redeem us from our sins and sufferings. But it was not the end of the story. He rose again defeating the power of death and destruction to give us hope for a better future.

My friend, you may be going through problems today. You might have lost all your hope but the resurrected Jesus can fill your heart with great hope. Just come to Him and accept Him in your life. There is a blessed and eternal hope in Jesus.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
