Bible talks about a young man named Solomon who gained wealth and honor as no one ever could. He had uncountable number of gold and silver. 2Ch 1:6-7, And Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before the LORD, which [was] at the tabernacle of meeting, and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it. On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask! What shall I give you?" God was so pleased with the love of Solomon towards Him that He appeared to Solomon in a dream the very night. Moreover Solomon did not ask for wealth and honor but God said to him, "I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like." We read in 2Ch 1:10-12, Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?" Then God said to Solomon: "Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life--but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king-- wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like." This is the love of God for His children. He really wants to bless us with all good things. In Proverbs we read Pro 10:22, "The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it." So God blessed Solomon with great wisdom, great riches and great honor. Bible talks about his greatness and the magnificent temple he built for God which was laid with pure gold. We can see small glimpse of his riches in few of these verses: 1Ki 10:21-24, "All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon. For the king had merchant ships at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys. So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom." The secrete of prosperity and blessings in the life of Solomon was that he pleased God through his life and actions. As long as he walked with God, God blessed him and made him prosperous. He became so much famous that people from around the world came seeking his wisdom as we read in 1Ki 10:24, "Now all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart." And further we read in 1Ki 10:27, "The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees as abundant as the sycamores which are in the lowland."But in later days he did not walk in the ways of God and he provoked Him with his deeds. So God took his kingdom from him and divided it in parts and gave ten tribes to his servant as we read in 1Ki 11:11, Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, "Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant." And in 1Ki 11:31, And he said to Jeroboam, "Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you."All these things tell us that God is interested in our prosperity. If we walk in His ways, if we love Him with all our heart, if we obey His commandments, wealth and prosperity automatically will come in our lives. What God did for others, He will do for us also. The only thing is to look to Him and walk in His ways. Jesus said in Mat 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." Come, let us seek Him with all our heart, mind and soul. Let us love Him and obey Him and He will make us prosperous.
Phil 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.Here Paul says, I am pressing toward the goal. What was that goal for Paul? "To attain to resurrection from the dead" as he mentions in Phil 3:10,11 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. This must be our goal too that we can have the privilege to receive resurrection of our soul for eternal life. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, 'Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"'Jesus is resurrection and the life and He is able to give us eternal life. How can we achieve eternal life and attain to the goal which Paul was talking about?1. New Birth:New birth or born again experience is the first step toward eternity. New birth is not a process as many say. We can't achieve salvation by daily devotion and our good life. We can't receive forgiveness of sin by "infant baptism" either. There are people who think that when you read the word of God and pray daily and when you do all these things, slowly one day you'll become perfect and achieve salvation but the Bible talks contrary to it although Bible reading and prayer is good and you gain knowledge about Jesus through it. For eternal life the first step is "New Birth" experience and it is an instantaneous occurrence and not a gradual process. It is exactly like a person taking physical birth in this world. Bible tells that "Repentance" is that first step which brings forgiveness of sin. Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord," An infant can't repent but a person who is fully aware of his/her dire state of sin can repent and turn around. You and I, as we are born in this world physically, in the same way we need spiritual birth for getting a place in God's kingdom. That's why Jesus said to Nicodemus, "unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. John 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:7 "Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'Here Jesus says, "unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God." That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Most of the references we find in the Bible associated with "Water" is for "Holy Spirit" or "Word of God" and without the help of Holy Spirit one can't take birth in the spiritual realm. When we repent from our sin and ask for forgiveness of sin we receive "New Birth" and we receive the seal of the Holy Spirit as a mark. Eph 1:13 -14, "In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory." Here the Lord is not talking about physical or fleshly rituals but He is talking about the real transformation which takes place in the spirit realm. For those who just believe only in fleshly rituals, their life does not change and that's why you do not see any changes in their lives. Salvation is the first step which brings a person into God's kingdom and gives the person the right to become a child of God.Look at the life of Paul, how he received "New Birth" and how his life was turned around. He was a persecutor of the church and believers. He was killing people, persecuting whoever were believing in Jesus. On the way to Damascus where he was going to put believers in prison, he had a marvelous encounter with Jesus. Acts 9:1 -5, "Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" And he said, "Who are You, Lord?" Then the Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads."This encounter had turned his life totally around. He became a believer of Jesus Christ. Only an encounter with Jesus brings "New Birth". That is what happens when a person comes in contact with Jesus. His/her life turns around. When Jesus comes in, the old sinful and rotten life turns around and it never stays the same. You need this kind of encounter with Jesus if you want to go to heaven. It is not necessary that every person receive similar kind of dramatic encounter as Paul had. Your experience could be different than Paul's. but when Jesus comes in your life, change happens always. 2 Cor 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." When Jesus comes to live inside of you, the things you were doing so far, you will not like to do them anymore. The friends with whom you might be hanging around so far, you will not like to hang around any more. The programs you were watching on TV so far, you will not watch anymore. The songs you were singing so far, you will not sing any more. When Jesus comes in, a sure change always occurs. It happened to Paul. The priests and people for whom he was working, he worked for them no more. The Christians whom he was persecuting, he persecuted them no more; instead he became one among them. Once he was opposing the true Gospel but now he was working tirelessly for the same Gospel of Jesus Christ. Once he was totally against the Gospel of Jesus, but now he was preaching the same Gospel. What a difference makes one encounter with Jesus! You need it. Yes you need it. 2. Spiritual growth:Second step is "Spiritual Growth" which is indeed a process. But it could happen only when a spiritual birth has taken place. It is a similar process like physical birth. First a child gets birth then he/she begins to grow, exactly the same thing happens in spiritual realm. As a child needs food for growth, in the same way, a born again child needs food for spiritual growth and that food is the "Word of God" the Bible. If you are a saved person, Bible reading and Prayer is a very important aspects which helps you to grow spiritually. In the real sense Bible is given as a manual for us so that we can read and figure out God's perfect will for us. As I wrote previously, "The Bible" helps us to live a clean life. It tells us what is right and what is wrong in the sight of God. As you grow spiritually it corrects your life and guides you. Prayer is another aspect of spiritual growth. Without prayer you can't achieve much. Look at the life of Jesus, though He being God He prayed night after night on mount olives and at other places. Jesus' life was a life of prayer. Prayer is nothing but conversation with God. Jesus did the same. He talked to His father night after night to find out what is His will. If Jesus had to do it, how much more we need to know the will of God. It is prayer which reveals to us what God wants from us, how our life should be, what our mission should be etc. Let's us press towards the goal as Paul did. If you are not a child of God you need to come to Jesus and repent from your sins and receive Him as your Lord and Savior. If you are a child of God you need to have a closer walk with Jesus. You need to read the Bible daily and correct your life and need to be in constant touch with Jesus through prayer and supplication. May the Lord help you to achieve the goal i.e. "Eternal Life".

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
