Today I want to tell you the good news of great joy. As we all know that in a few days we will be celebrating Christmas. But when we look at this world, we find many who do not have any joy. There are many things which are supposed to entertain our lives, 24 hours TV channels, non-stop airing of movies, pop songs, hip-hop... and so on but none of them give great joy in our lives. There are things which could give us laughter for some time but that laughter and enjoyment does not stay long. Soon gloominess and emptiness start filling our lives.

But at the time when Jesus was born an angel of the Lord proclaimed to a group of shepherds that, he was bringing Good News of Great Joy which would be for all people. We read in Luke 2:8-11, "Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

Why is the birth of Jesus a Good News of Great Joy? It is because Jesus came in this world to save sinners who are sitting in darkness having no hope of getting rid of their sin. Every man and every woman have fallen in sin and because of that we are destined to die eternally. But Jesus' birth in this earth gave hope to the dying humanity. There is no greater joy than to know that we can get forgiveness of our sins and can enter into eternal life through the precious blood of Jesus.

Most of us do not realize that we are burdened and heavy laden with sin that it does not give us any peace or joy. No matter how many means of entertainments are available for us that does not satisfy our souls nor does it give us any peace or joy. But when a person comes at the feet of Jesus and gives his life to Jesus, his life starts changing and a great peace and joy fills in his heart. Jesus said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

When deliverance from sin comes in our lives, it gives us unspeakable peace and joy that this world cannot give and no one can explain.

So the first thing Jesus wants to give us is forgiveness of our sins and with this we will receive peace and joy also. Not only that, He gives eternal life along with the forgiveness of sin. Bible tells us that we are dead in sin but when Jesus comes in our lives, He brings life in our dead soul. This great joy was reflected in the lives of His disciples and in those who followed Jesus.

When Jesus ascended to heaven, it should have been a time of sadness and despair for His disciples but the Bible tells us that they were in great joy as we read in, Luke 24:50-53, "And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen." Then we read in Acts 8:5-8, "Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city."

Then again we read that when Paul and Barnabas told about the deliverance of the gentiles such great joy filled among the brethren who heard the news as in Acts 15:3, "So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren."

That's what happens when we find Christ that our burdens would be gone and great joy and peace will fill our hearts. And this is the message of Christmas!

Everlasting Father

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

One of the titles of the coming Messiah was "Everlasting Father". Bible tells us that God is like a loving father. When the Israelites were in bondage in Egypt and when they cried out to God, God was moved with compassion for them. He made a way for them so that they could be delivered from their bondage and hardships. When they walked in the wilderness God cared for them as His own children. We read in Deuteronomy 1:31, "'and in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.'"

Psalmist says in Psalm 68:5 that God is, "A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation." And also in Psalm 103:13-14, "As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust."

Throughout all the Old Testament we see how God had compassion on people and how He was like a father to them. He was their provider, their protector, their shield, there everything. And when we come to the New Testament, God never changes; He is a loving Father as He was in Old Testament. The same God came down in the form of a man and walked among us. He showed the same love and compassion to people that Father God showed. He met the needs of people, He wiped away the tears of people, He healed the sick, He raised the dead, He gave hope to the hopeless and blessed their lives. Isaiah tells us that this Everlasting Father is none other than the Messiah and this quality was fulfilled in Jesus.

Even today, God wants to be our loving father. He wants to help us in our day today life just as a father does to his children. He is very much interested in our lives to provide for us, to protect us from all evil, to wipe away our tears, to heal our sicknesses, to bless our lives and to exalt us before others. At times we feel so lonely and desperate that we think, alas if some one might be there to help us. Over the years I have found that Jesus is many thousands of times better than any human help. When things seem so impossible and when things seem so hopeless, when no human being could ever consol us in those moments, His help is the greatest help. In His arms there is peace and joy, there is consolation and blessings. No matter what may be going around you, you can find peace by hiding in Him. Psalmist says in Psalm 144:1-2, "Blessed be the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle; My loving kindness and my fortress, My high tower and my deliverer, My shield and the One in whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me."

Have you known Him as your Father? If not, just come to Him and invite Him in your heart and you will become a child of the Most High God. And with this every blessing will follow which heaven has to offer.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
