By Sherly Isaac

Good Friday reminds us about the cruel death of Jesus Christ. Death itself is very painful and cruel. How much of tears, heartbreaks and ghastly scars are left in one's life! There are people who had come across the death of their dear ones under such circumstances who could never fully recover from the trauma. Yes, death is so much cruel and unbelievably painful. Once I watched the documentary showing the reaction of the family members of those who had died tragically because of a deadly accident or were the victims of a murder plot. Among them there was a mother who had lost her son. The mother and the sister of that young man were so traumatized that they said, "We did not do anything but all day we sat outside of our home looking toward the railroad. We don't feel like doing anything."

Back in India there was a young family living in our neighborhood. The mother was working in gulf countries and she came to meet her family on vacation. One day their young son who was hardly six or seven years old who was playing outside the house, did not come back home. They searched everywhere but could not find him anywhere. Next day they brought some instruments to search inside the well to find whether the boy could have fallen inside the well while playing and would have got drowned. Finally they recovered the dead body of the boy from the well. . It was such a tragic incident for the whole family that the father of the boy resigned from his high post and he would often been seen standing in front of his house staring towards the well where his only son had drowned.

Death is painful and bitter! When Adam and Eve sinned and when they were separated from God, it was as painful as physical death. Bible calls it as spiritual death. When it happened, Adam and Eve slipped into such devastating condition that there was no chance for them to ever have any relationship with God. But God in His mercy sent His only Son to die for us so that we could come out of eternal death and get life in us. Jesus said in John 6:51-58, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." The Jews hearing this quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?" Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."

Jesus has clearly spoken to the people that unless a person eats from the living bread or drinks from His blood, he/she has no life in him/her. Some people think that, if they go to Church and take Holy Communion then all their sins would be forgiven and they will go to heaven. But it is not true. The Holy Communion is a symbol and a memorial for what Jesus did for us so that our sins could be forgiven. And we need to come to Jesus and accept Him as our Lord and Savior.

Once a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

When a person accepts Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior that person becomes born again and becomes a child of God as we read in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

Jesus defeated this bitter and painful death on the cross by His resurrection. Because of that, today we can have life that would never end if we just come to Jesus.

Resurrection

By Sherly Isaac

If death is extremely painful and torturous then resurrection is extremely joyous and the most happy moment. When a child is born in a family, what joy and celebration takes place. But when a loved one dies that is the most painful moment for that family.

Resurrection of Jesus was one of the happiest moments of life for those who saw Him dying a gruesome death. It was a death which no ordinary person could endure and it was the most horrifying moment for His disciples and for those who became His followers and friends in His short life on the earth. When Jesus was crucified and when Jesus was buried in a tomb, His disciples were completely shaken and devastated. For His disciples and for those who knew Him, all their hopes were lost. This made them afraid because they did not know whether they would also be dragged away and crucified like they did to Jesus. This was one side of the coin which made them extremely sad and unhappy.

But three days later when some of the women went to the tomb they came to know that Jesus has risen from the dead. When they knew it, their joy knew no bounds. They ran to tell the disciples that Jesus is alive. It was the most joyous occasion for them. When some of the disciples got the news they could not believe it and they ran to the tomb. As the news spread, from disciples to disciples their joy and excitement grew. They were rejoicing and they were glad.

You can see here a complete reversal, their sorrow, heartbreaks and pain through which they passed for two days, the pain of death, the sorrow of losing their beloved master, the heartbreaks and the tears they shed and now an unending joy seeing their beloved master alive again.

Yes, my friend, this is what resurrection did in their lives which wiped away their sorrows in one moment. And this is what resurrection does in our lives. It wipes away the traces of death and destruction from our lives and gives us hope and joy beyond our imaginations. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die."

The moment you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He gives you life by removing death from your life. He gives you eternal life. With this life comes unending joy and hope for the future. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior then this is the day, this is the moment, just come to Jesus and accept this wonderful life.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
