Once I read the story of John G. Paton who was a missionary to New Hebrides where he had to work among cannibals who used to eat human flesh. When he reached there with his young wife, the faith of both of them was severely tested. The people of that island were ready to devour them but God was their protection and none could touch them. It is amazing how God protected John Paton from the evil hands of those people. The Island people were not only been into eating human flesh but were also involved in occult and witchcraft. In the midst of all those terrible trials John survived and no one could do any harm to him. No one could touch him until his time came to leave this world. Again and again, John Paton was attacked by them from all directions. Arrows were aimed at him, deadly stones were hurled at him. Clubs were raised to strike him. But he showed no fear and stood before them courageously, praying inwardly to God and miraculously his life was spared. Though he was constantly under threat of death, he lived his full life, raised his family there and died at the age of eighty three.This was the protection offered by God to His child. And this is the same protection of God for all His children, for those who accept Him as their Lord and Savior.Just 14 days after his wedding, he and his wife sailed to the island to work among those human flesh eaters and when he landed with his young wife after seven months journey, they were surrounded by painted savages who were involved in superstitions and cruelties at its worst. But just three months later his wife and their new born son died of tropical fever and it really devasted him. Yet he continued his work there.Sometimes he saved himself by running straight into the arms of the cannibal, hugging his enemy tightly to keep him from lifting his club to strike. Once he knocked at the barrel of a musket aimed to his heart, diverting the bullet harmlessly into the air. One night he needed to climb a tall tree and spend the long dark hours hiding among the branches, while the savages whooped and fired their muskets below him. Often his life had been saved by nothing except the miraculous power of God, when his attackers were frightened away by angels who guarded him.One night, when an army of attacking cannibals burned the mission church, John Paton and the other missionaries were rescued by a ship from another island. After this, John had made a trip back to Scotland to raise money for a mission boat of his own. Most of the money came from children in Sunday Schools, and John named the boat “Dayspring”. When the beautiful little ship Dayspring returned to New Hebrides Islands, the savages were filled with surprise.“How is this?” they marveled. “We killed some of the missionaries and drove the others away. Yet they come back! And not to make money as the other white men do. These come only to tell us of their God and His Son Jesus. If their God makes them so brave, we ought to worship Him too!”Once two witch doctors approched him and gave him a fruit to eat which was given after doing some witchcraft intending to kill John Paton immidiately. John Paton took that fruit in his hand and after praying, he ate that fruit. Witch doctors waited and waited for long time to see that John would fall and die but to their surprise he did not show any sign of fainting or dying. For many years he found that his hard work was not bringing the desired effect. But a day came when the chief of the tribe accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. That was the turning point in his ministy. Soon the whole island turned to Christ.Yes, my friend, if God had called you and sent you somewhere, He will not allow your enemy to trimph over you. He will protect you until your misson is accomplished. You need not to fear those who rise against you!
After the death of Moses when all the responsibility came upon Joshua it seems that he was a bit afraid. That time God told him in Joshua 1:8, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."God encouraged Joshua to put his effort to read, meditate and to walk according to the words written in this book of Law. God also told him that when he do that, he will be able to make his way prosperous and success will be his portion. This is the ancient formula for prosperity and success that God disclosed to Joshua. Not only Joshua but all those who followed this principles were prosperous and successful in their lives.When Joshua had to face those people who were in the fortified city and because of the fear of the Israelites the city was securely shut up that none went out and none could go in, when there was no way Joshua and his men could enter in that city, look what God did, He said to Joshua (Jos 6:2-5), "And the LORD said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him." What God said to Joshua did happen exactly! The fortified walls and the securely shut city's doors came down and there was way for the Israelites to enter in. Why did it happen? It happened because Joshua did what God told him to do. Word of God did not depart from his life. This was not the only victory we see in the life of Joshua, but wherever he went he saw victory in his life. Fortified cities gave way before him, enemies could not stand before him and he saw victory after victory.Even today success and prosperity is for us if we meditate in His word day and night and do what He spoke in His word. Psalmist says in Psa 1:1-3, "BLESSED is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper."Bible again and again tells us that God wants to bless us and make us prosperous. Also in Proverbs we read (Proverbs 3:1-10), "My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty"A child of God's prosperity and success lie in this simple principle of God that we should meditate on God's word day and night so that we could do whatever is written in it. And it will make ways for prosperity and success in our lives.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it."
