Whether you are in India or in USA, every person's dream is for success and prosperity. How could we be successful in our lives? When we look at the life of Joseph we find that though he went to Egypt as a slave boy yet he could climb up to the top in that nation. David was just a shepherd boy but one day he became king of Israel. Eliezer was Abraham's oldest servant, but he was given the most important job of finding a bride for Isaac from Abraham's father's place. What could he do now? His job was to bring the bride from a land unknown to him. But he could reach the exact place and find a beautiful bride for his master's son. In all these success stories, we find one common thing that each of them trusted in the God of the Bible and God led them, blessed them, prospered them and gave them good success.When Joshua was about to take the leadership of Israel God told him in Josh 1:8-9, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."God specifically spoke to Joshua that the word of God must not depart from his mouth that he should meditate on it day and night so that he could do every thing according to the word of God. David says the same thing in Psalms 1:1-3, "Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper."David compares the man who meditates on the word of God day and night to an ever green tree which blossoms and brings forth fruit without fail and whose leaves does not wither. The key to success in our lives does not depend on circumstances but on how we walk in accordance with the word of God obeying His word.Those who have obeyed God saw greater success in their lives. If we obey God, we can also see success and prosperity in our lives. If we walk according to His word, we can also see success and prosperity in our lives. God not only wants us to prosper and succeed in our physical and material lives but also wants us to prosper spiritually and have a closer walk with God. God wants us to get forgiveness of our sins and live a holy life. Jesus came for the very purpose to give His life for us so that our sins could be forgiven and we could have great peace and joy in our lives. If you want this peace and joy in your life, you need to come to Jesus. He can wash away your sins and can give you peace and joy that this world cannot give.
I was raised in a Christian home. My dad was an Engineer. So we had money and all the material blessings in our life but there was no peace in our home. Every time when we gathered around the dining table for lunch or dinner this time should be a time of joy and happiness sharing each other's thoughts but it always turned out in some kind of argument and then into a big fighting and quarrelling. It continued everyday and there was no peace in our home. I didn't know how to get peace in my life and how to get rid of this mess. I attended church regularly and heard many messages about Jesus and about Bible. But nobody told me how to get rid of this quarrelling and fighting. Nobody told me how to get peace in my heart.I heard from my childhood that if you are born in a Christian home you will go to heaven. But I always thought that when my life was not better than my other non-christian friends then how can I say that I will be going to heaven. I always thought that my life was not better than their lives. What they did I also did. They told lies I did the same thing, they watched secular movies I did the same thing, they read filthy novels and magazines I did the same thing. So I thought, "Where is the difference between them and me?" Then how can I say that I have a place in heaven? This nagging thought was always there in my mind. I always thought, "How do I know that I have a place in heaven"? How do I know that one day when I die I will go to heaven?" But nobody could answer this question and the quest continued in my mind. My dad said, "If you believe that Jesus is God and He died for your sin then you will go to heaven". But I knew that I was not satisfied with that answer and it didn't solve my problem because my life was not better than others.At that time I was studying in school and my school was closed for two months vacation. I didn't know what to do in that free time. Somebody said, "Empty mind is a workshop of the devil." We had many novels in our home. My dad would often go on official tours and when he would be traveling in train just to pass time he bought those novels and that's how our store room was filled with novels. So I started reading those novels. After reading those filthy and lustful/romantic novels the little joy and happiness which I had was also lost. My mind was filled with anxiety and bad feelings. The more I read those novels the more I became restless and peace-less and my anxiety grew. Every day I thought, I don't want to read them anymore but next day I would be searching for new novel in my store room. I tried to quit reading but was not successful.As usual one day I was searching for a new novel in my store room and I found two page flyer or pamphlet. Its title was "I found Jesus" and I started reading it. It had three testimonies. Two of the testimonies were of people who were born in Christian homes. In their testimonies they had said that on some particular day they invited Jesus into their heart and their life was turned around and they received peace and happiness in their lives. There was one more testimony of a woman who was born in a Hindu Bengali Brahmin family. She was a doctor by profession. This testimony touched me particularly. It said that she watched Jesus movie and she received Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior and when she invited Jesus into her life her life was changed totally. And she received peace and joy which she never had before. After reading all these testimonies I thought, "Though I was born in a Christian home I do not have such experience." Then and there I prayed a very simple prayer. I said, "Lord Jesus I do not know how to get this experience, I do not know how to receive this joy and happiness in my heart. But I really want this kind of peace and joy in my home and in my life. I really want a place in heaven." I prayed this prayer but saw no change in my life and nothing had happened that day. But I do believe that Jesus had heard that simple prayer.After this prayer a few months have passed by and I received a letter from my cousin Suganthi George. In this letter she wrote about her testimony and how she invited Jesus into her life and how her life was changed and how she received joy and peace in her life and how she got rid of her depression and anxiety. She wrote further, "Sheela, if you don't receive Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior you will not be able to go to heaven. But you will be lost in hell fire forever and ever." When I read this letter I started crying. I didn't know why I was crying but this letter had touched me deeply. I read it for the second time and I wept bitterly. I probably cried for more than an hour or two but I didn't know then why I was crying and what was happening to me. But something had happened that day. The unspeakable joy which I never had before in my life had filled my soul. I received peace which I never had before in my life. Great joy came into my heart but I didn't know what was happening to me and why I was feeling such a peace and joy. And that day onwards my life started changing.In that one week I saw many great changes in my life.1. First thing which happened in my life was great joy and peace that filled my life and all the depression and anxiety left instantaneously. I felt so happy and joyful2. Second thing which happened in my life was that I quit reading those novels. I totally lost the desire to read those novels again. I never read those filthy novels again after this experience.3. I was very fond of Hindi movie songs and I used to listen to them every day without fail. After this experience I tried to listen to those songs but felt so restless that I no longer could listen to them. Whenever I tried to listen I felt as if I had a high fever like 104 or 105 and I felt such restlessness that I could no longer listen to those songs. The next day I tried to listen to those songs and I felt the same restlessness. I thought that I was not feeling good so I took my radio in my garden and tried to listen but I could not and so I quit listening to those songs. Many years have passed by but these changes were very permanent in my life and the desire to read novels never came back in my life. I never listen to those songs again and never read those novels again. 4. The forth change I saw that week was that I did not have any arguments or quarrelling with my family members and there was peace in our home. Within the next 2-3 years my other family members also invited Jesus into their hearts and their lives were also transformed. As days went by our home became a sweet and happy home and all the quarrelling and fighting was totally gone. As Jesus came into our lives our home became a little heaven on this earth and we enjoyed each others company very much and we wanted to be always together. When I look back it really surprises me that how much Jesus had transformed our lives.5. The fifth thing which happened in my life was that I have a very deep and longing desire to live a very holy and clean life. This thought was so intense that this thought was eating me up day by day. I had such a strong feeling to do what is right and good in the sight of God. This thought is still there and every day when I wake up the first thing I think is how to live a holy life and how to please Jesus.6. Instead of reading novels I started reading Bible and Bible related books and found great enjoyment in reading them. To be continued...

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
