From the Bible we read about the great story of how the Israelites when they were in Egypt had gone through oppression and how when they called upon the Lord and how He delivered them miraculously and brought them out of Egypt. Here we see a nation that came out of Egypt by the mighty power of God. The Israelites saw awesome miracles with their own eyes before they were about to come out and after coming out.When they came out of Egypt they were in front of Red Sea and looking back they saw the Egyptian army closely following them. They were terrified. They had no way to go further and they thought that death was certain. But God did a wonderful feat, divided the Red Sea in two and made a way through the midst of the Red Sea. Not only the Israelites but also the Egyptians were awestruck seeing such miracles.But there was one draw back with the Israelites that made them to loose their blessings. They murmured every now and then. If they felt that some vegetables they had enjoyed in Egypt were not available there, they murmured. If they felt that meat was not there, they murmured again. If they felt drinking water was in shortage they murmured again. Sometimes it becomes a habit when you repeat things a few times and it seems that when the Israelites murmured repeatedly it became a habit with them. And eventually it destroyed their lives. Yes, murmuring against God destroyed their lives. The only reason why they could not go to the Promised Land was because they did not give glory to God. They did not thank God in spite of the blessings that He showered in their lives. They failed to acknowledge the mighty deeds that God did in their lives. What a foolish end that awaited the Israelites! They had needed to do only one thing - appreciate and thank God for what He did in their lives. Thank God for His goodness and deliverance He showed in their lives. But they failed to do that and it became a terrible tragedy for them. And they could not go to the Promised Land.Even today God wants us to praise Him always.1 Thessalonians 5:18, "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." The tradition of Thanksgiving came in USA about a couple of hundred years ago when the president of USA acknowledged the bountiful blessings which God gave in the form of harvest and produce. As a nation they gave thanks to almighty God and it was a day of celebration. Even today when we thank God, He blesses us and we can enjoy more of His blessings in our lives. Let us thank God always. Today if we look back in our own lives, we can find untold and numerous blessings from Him in our lives. Instead of grumbling or getting disappointed with our situations, let us praise God, let us glorify His holy name and let us thank God whether it is a small blessing or big blessing let us thank God for what He has done in our lives. And I am sure that when we do that He will pour out more of His blessings in our lives.
Giving Thanks to God is very important because it brings blessings in our lives. When we glorify God, when we thank God these things happen:1. He protects us from committing sin and from sinful lusts:In the Bible we read in Romans 1:21-32 that because people did not glorify God and because they did not thank God they lived a sinful life. As we read here "because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man; and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them."You can see that all these kinds of sin came in their lives because they did not thank God, because they did not glorify God. When we glorify God, when we thank God, He gives us victory over sin and over sinful nature. He protects us from sinning.2. Praising God will protect you from your enemy and will give you victory: Bible tells us that there was a king named Jehoshaphat who was surrounded by enemies. In those moments of despair and fear, he appointed a big choir to praise God. And God miraculously delivered them from his enemies and gave them victory over their enemies. Though the enemy was mightier and much bigger in number, though it was impossible for them to overcome their enemy, though they were afraid, though they did not know what will happen to them yet they trusted in the mighty power of God and praised God in advance. And the result was that they saw mighty victory over their enemies. 3. Giving thanks will unlock closed doors for you:Once Paul and Silas were in prison but in the midst of all the problems and bondage they were singing and praising God. When they were worshipping God, suddenly an earthquake came and their bondages were loosened and all the prisoners were free. Yes, that's what happens when we praise God. Not only that but the jailer and his whole family got saved.Another story we read in the Old Testament that Hannah was a sorrowful woman because she had no kids and more than that her rival would mock at her and tease her. That made her life more miserable. Every year they went to worship the Lord in temple. In one of those visits, she went to the temple and poured out her heart before God. She wept bitterly. But when she returned, her face was no longer sad. Then we read that God heard her prayers and gave her son named Samuel and other children.There are many more things God can do in our lives when we thank God. Instead of murmuring on our situations, instead of looking negatively at our circumstances we must give our cares to Jesus and thank Him because He will do mighty and awesome things beyond our imagination.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month.
