How to get forgiveness of our sins? This question rings often in the mind and ear of every one. Many try to go through several rituals to get rid of their sins. Many try to do whatever they could that somehow or other their sins may be forgiven and some people even sacrifice their children thinking that they could get into heaven.

Recently I was reading Bro. P. G. Vargis's book, "Compelled to share His love" in which he wrote, "Years ago, as I was witnessing one day along the banks of the Hindu holy river, Ganges, I sat talking with some Hindu holy men. During our conversation, I noticed a couple as they took turns showering kisses on their infant. I was particularly moved by the sight because most Indians don't show outward affection in public. But then, to my horror, in one swift motion, the man grabbed the baby and threw it into the swirling black waters of the Ganges River. The shrieks of the struggling infant were rendered silent as its tiny body sank into the river's icy grip.

Stunned and not quite believing what I had just witnessed. I ran toward the couple. The father was weeping, and the mother, overcome with grief, was pulling her hair.

In disbelief I stammered, "Was.... was... that an accident?" Between heaving sobs, the father cried, "No, I threw the child into the river." I couldn't make sense of it. My first thought was that the child must have been born crippled or that they were getting rid of a baby girl, which is often the case in India. "Was the child a cripple... or a girl?" I asked. The father shook his head, and in a grief-stricken voice, cried, "No, it was a healthy baby boy." Incredulous, I asked, "Then why did you do it?" "We have offered our child to the Mother Ganges to obtain salvation." came his heartbreaking reply.

"And did you receive your salvation?" I asked, my own heart broken over the needless tragedy and the only answer I knew he could give. He shook his head and broke into a loud cry. I stood helpless for a moment as he and his wife sobbed, and then I asked, "Have you heard about Jesus Christ?"

Thinking it was some kind of medicine that would calm his wife, he said, "I have never heard of this medication. Which shop can I find it in?" After gently calming the couple, I shared with them the story of how God sent His only Son to die so that we could find forgiveness of our sins and true salvation.

They were shocked. The woman grabbed her chest with one hand, and with the other she pointed an accusing finger at me and shrieked, "If I had known this truth earlier, our son would not have had to die! Where were you half an hour ago?"

Today also people are in dark; they do not know what to do, where to turn and how to get forgiveness of their sins. Back in India once my mom was cleaning the gas stove and a piece of iron went in her finger. She was in great pain. Our next door neighbor was a doctor. So we consulted him and after seeing her finger, he said, there is no need to worry, give her Crosin and she will be all right. But it did not give her any relief so my dad took her to a nearby hospital. While she was waiting for her number to come, she collapsed and it was required that she needed immediate surgery. After surgery when the piece of iron was removed from her hand, she recovered slowly.

Likewise our heart is sinful and Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Sometimes we go to wrong counselors and sometimes we try to find remedy for our sins through superficial ways which are unable to penetrate in and remove sins from our hearts. We need to go to someone who could really remove sins from our lives. Any other thing will not help. Jesus came in this world for the very purpose to take away our sins. If we come to Jesus and repent from our sins, He is ready to forgive and forget all our sins. Would you come to Him for forgiveness of your sins?

Fear VS Faith

By Sherly Isaac

Job 3:24-25, "For my sighing comes before I eat, And my groanings pour out like water. For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me."

Fear is the opposite of Faith. Fear often replaces faith. Often when we fail to trust God we fear things. I think that fear is the greatest weapon used by the devil to weaken faith in the life of a believer.

Once Peter and the other disciples were in boat. It was night and when Jesus showed up walking on the water the disciples were afraid. But Jesus said, don't be afraid, it is Me. So Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!" And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" (Mat 14:28 - 31)

As long as Peter's eyes were fixed on Jesus, he could walk on water. But as soon as he was distracted by the wind, he was afraid and he started to sink. Fear brought doubt in his mind and he could not stand boldly in faith. As long as our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we can live fearless.

A few weeks back I was watching TV and I saw the news of a plane falling on a home. When they interviewed the people, one elderly man said, I always feared that plane may fall on my home... What he feared became a reality.

Job also says, "For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me."

But faith is the opposite of such fear. As a human being we often fear seeing our circumstances but if we trust in God, if by faith we fix our eyes on Jesus, things would change. Storms cannot drown you, fires cannot burn you. As prophet Isaiah prophesied in Isaiah 43:1-2, "But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you."

Those whom God has redeemed, those whom God has forgiven their sins, will not see defeat but instead they will rise up and will be triumphant. Somebody said, "God has not promised for storm-free life" But He has promised victory through faith.

When Joshua was about to lead the Israelites, he was afraid but God told him in Joshua 1:6-9, "Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."

Today also God wants us to have a fearless life, a life full of courage to defeat the plans and plots of the devil and to have a victorious life. Let our eyes be fixed on Jesus alone and no storms can destroy us.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
