Recently we heard the news of so many shootings in different parts of the world. How tragic and how heartbreaking it is that people get killed without any reason. Many became victim of senseless violence. Of course it is painful for those families who see their loved ones dead or injured seriously. Death always brings pain in ones life.

When God created Adam and Eve He warned them that they should not eat the fruit of the tree that was in the midst of the Garden. God specifically warned that if they did, they will die immediately. Despite all the warnings they did what God forbid them to do and as God said, death came in this world. Of course the first death was painful and so is every death after that and it is always tragic and painful. Adam and Eve had lost their joy, peace and relationship with God. They had enjoyed the presence of God but now they had to live their own lives in pain and sorrow. They had to work hard for their living. Their lives became miserable and more than that eternal death came in this world.

Life is the opposite of death. A person can kill others and take away their lives but there is no one in this world who could give life to anybody or give life back to the dead person. Life cannot be created in a science lab. No technology could bring a dead person to life and no scientist or doctor has the ability to bring a dead person to life.

But in the Bible we read of so many incidents of God raising people from the dead. One touch of Jesus, one word of Jesus made dead persons to come back to life. Why and how it was possible at all? Because Jesus Himself is life and He alone can give life to a dead person. And the Good News is that Jesus came to this world for this very purpose. He died on the cruel cross for our sins, taking our sins on Himself, so that we should not die but live forever. His precious blood was shed on the cruel cross to purchase pardon for our sins. Today we have to do nothing but to come at the feet of Jesus so that our sins could be forgiven and receive eternal life so that we could live forever. When we repent of our sins and come at His feet He will gladly give us a new life forgiving our sins. He will give us life that will never fade away.

Will you come at the feet of Jesus so that your sins could be forgiven and you could get eternal life? Would you take His life so that you could live forever?

Jesus hates sin (mishandling of money)

By Sheela Isaac

Mark 11:15 So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
Mark 11:16 And He would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple.
Mark 11:17 Then He taught, saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it a 'den of thieves.'"
Mark 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching.

Once I was in a public place where the Jesus movie was being displayed. The scene was of Jesus throwing tables, casting out animals and releasing doves. There was a woman who was laughing out loud seeing it. She said, "look, how angry Jesus is but people portray Jesus as loving and kind but in real it is not true." I felt pretty bad hearing her sarcastic comments about Jesus. I told her the real meaning of this incidence which Bible describes. Jesus was not angry with the people but he hates sin and that's what we see in this passage of Mark 11.

Jesus hated the illegal practices going on in the temple. Jesus hated how the priests, Pharisees were taking advantage of the situation. People used to come in to the temple to worship God. Bible says that people had to offer something in the temple whether grain, dove or bull as burnt offering or sin offering. In Leviticus chapter 4 Bible says, that if the priest had committed sin unintentionally he needed to bring a bull to offer because of his sin and they needed to sacrifice that bull so that he could receive forgiveness of his sin. In the same way if the whole Israelite community had committed sin they needed to do the same thing. These kinds of sacrifices pointed toward the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross who being God offered Himself on behalf of us so that we can receive remission of sin through His holy blood.

Back to the point, in those days' people who used to come to temple needed to bring such offerings to get forgiveness of sin. It looks that these priests and money changers had charged them high rates for those items. They might have taken money unfairly from the poor people. That's why Jesus said, "you have made My Father's house as a den of thieves." It should be a place of worship. Instead their focus was on money. It should be a place of holiness, but instead unholy practices were adopted by the priests and Pharisees. They tried to find illegal and sinful ways to make more money by cheating people. That's why Jesus was angry because of their sinful practices.

This happened then and it is happening today also. If grocery is bought for church and if it is going in your homes then it is stealing. If the church repair work is done and your home is also repaired with church money then it is stealing. If church had planted plants and you plant same plants in your home using church money then it is stealing. If you take money from offertory bags then it is stealing. If you organize or conduct meetings to make money for your personal use it is also stealing. If you are making money out of the church in any form it is stealing. The Bible says that a thief can't enter in heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9 -10, "Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Jesus threw tables and made whip out of cord and drove them out and cleaned the house of God. By doing this He showed that earning money by illegal dealings is sin. He showed that extortion and corruption is sin. When Jesus did it the Priests and Pharisees got very angry and upset. They wanted to destroy Jesus. It amazes me that sin, wrong doing and stealing was appreciated by the priests and Pharisees while doing the right thing was condemned by them. They wanted to kill Jesus because He told them to do the right thing.

Today also this passage is relevant for us and teaches us how to cleanse our life and how to live a holy life. Our community and people around us might condemn us but God would appreciate it and He is going to give us reward in heaven for living a holy life. Only through leading a holy life we can enter into heaven. Today you might be living in sin but you can still come out of it. You can repent from your sins and can receive forgiveness of sin through Jesus Christ and lead a holy life.

Repentance doesn't mean that you repent and keep sinning and keep asking for forgiveness. Many think that repentance gives us the license to sin. The true repentance is a one time experience where you receive forgiveness of sin and a place in heaven. The true repentance is where you repent from your sin before Jesus and your heart changes and you no longer live in sin. If you have truly repented from your sin you can't continue to live in the same sin. If after repentance you see no change in your life and attitude that means you haven't repented from the bottom of your heart. It means that you need to re-repent till you see change in your life and heart. Repentance is not the words we speak from our mouth while our heart stays hard and you see no change in your life. The true repentance is a change of heart which registers your name in heaven in the "book of life". If you have truly repented from the bottom of your heart then you can't live in same sins. After true repentance you no longer live in the same sin. After true repentance you can no longer steal money in any form from any place. After true repentance you can't do drinking parties. After true repentance you can't go with the same old friends to indulge in old sins. After true repentance you no longer can read the same books and novels again. After true repentance you can no longer watch the same old sinful movies and tv shows again.

You need to check your life to see if you have really repented and have been born again. Have you ever received Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If not you can do it today itself and you can have a place in heaven. I would like you to pray this prayer with the bottom of your heart to receive eternal life.

Lord Jesus, please forgive and forget my sins. I have done things which are not right in your site. I have spoken things which are not right in your site. I went with friends who motivated me to do wrong and evil things. Today I repent from my sins. Today I surrender my life at your feet. Please come into my heart. Forgive and forget all my sins and give me a new life. Wash away all my sins in your precious blood and give me eternal life. Lord from today onwards I want to lead a holy life, a life which pleases you. Lord please forgive my sins and give me holy life. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
