In the 1st chapter of psalms we read about the life of the righteous who walks in the ways of God. Psalms 1:3 says, "He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."

We all know that water is important for life. A human being cannot survive without water for more than 3 or 4 days. If plants do not get water they would shed their leaves that would wither away. I remember that once when we moved to a new place where we had several lemon trees. We were happy that in due season we will get much lemon. When the season came for the lemon trees to blossom and give fruit, they indeed blossomed and started to have small fruits. But to our surprise and disappointment none of the fruits would grow bigger and instead they started shrinking and falling. Then my dad dug around it, fertilized it and started watering regularly and in the next season the trees blossomed again, its fruits did not wither away.

A righteous person is like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."

How can a person be planted by the rivers of water? Once Jesus' disciples told Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?" But Jesus answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch"(Matthew 15:13-14).

"Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted" This means that God Himself plants a person by the rivers of water. Water represents Holy Spirit. When a person repents from his/her sins and turns to God, he is a new creation, born of water and the spirit according to John 3:5, Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Sometimes people think that religious leaders or those who do many rituals are pious people but Jesus plainly told them that the Pharisees were not planted by God. Pharisees who had studied scriptures in very minute detail who tried to follow those laws strictly were considered great scholars in those days. But God was not pleased with them because they appeared themselves as righteous but had nothing to do with God. They did everything wrong, they devoured widows houses, they wanted status and honor for themselves in the society but least cared about God and His will.

But God is pleased with those who humble themselves and turn to Him with repentance. If you are not born again, if you have not repented of your sins, you are far away from the rivers of the Holy Spirit and there is no life in you. But if you repent of your sins and turn from your sins, Jesus will give you a new life and plant you by the rivers of water where you could be like a fruitful tree. Jesus came for the very purpose to take away the dryness of sin from our lives and to fill us with the goodness and blessings and more than that to give us eternal life. Will you come to Jesus today? Will you give your life to Jesus today?

Beyond the Grave!

By Sherly Isaac

Have you ever thought what is beyond the grave? I am not sure how many people think about it but I grew up in a home where my mom spoke a lot about heaven and hell. When I was a kid, she would often tell my siblings and me that we should not do anything wrong like stealing, speaking lies etc. Because angels are continually building houses for us in heaven and that whenever we do something good they would add one brick but if we did anything wrong, they would take off one brick from the house they are building... And if the house is not complete when you die, you have to go to hell. Oh, that was the scariest conclusion one could hear!

Often my parents would go for funerals but they would never take us. And when my mom would come back from the funeral she would explain, how peaceful the face was of that person who died... And every time her sentence would end with this line, "I am sure he is in heaven or she is in heaven..."

Then one day we heard one dear lady from our Church died. Again my parents went to attend the funeral. This time her story was a bit different than before, she said, "her face was shining... I never saw anybody whose face shined like this in my whole life... I am sure she is in heaven..."

When I was in college a teacher told us that "so and so died peacefully in her sleep... she went to bed and never woke up in the morning... what a beautiful death it is" she exclaimed!

Some people think that if a person died peacefully, they will go to heaven. Some people think that if a person died in certain days or hours, they will reach heaven.

But these are all opinions and wishful thinkings of different persons which has no Biblical basis. Bible clearly tells us that unless a person's sins are forgiven, he/she cannot enter into heaven whether a person died peacefully or not. The most important thing is that we need to make peace with God before we die. Then only we can go to heaven. We cannot enter into heaven with all our sins but there is only one way to get rid of our sins i.e. by the precious blood of Jesus which was shed on the cruel cross. The blood of Jesus has power to forgive and erase all our sins.

If you want to go to heaven, you need to come to Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins. Unless your sins are forgiven, you cannot enter into heaven.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
