Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Here the Bible says about the messiah who was about to come in this world and it tells about His qualities. He is a good counselor. Many times people say that God spoke in ancient times but now He does not speak. But my Bible says that He is a counselor. It is His quality to give us counsel or advice. He can not change His quality because the Bible says in Malachi 3:6, "For I am the LORD, I do not change..."

When you go through problems and if you go and ask men for their advice, many times the advice they give breaks your heart. But God's counsel would console you and give you comfort. I know a girl whose relatives brought many divorced men's proposals for marriage and they tried to convince her parents saying, "no one is going to marry your daughters. So give them in marriage to whomever you are getting." It was OK till that time. But when on December 1997 when they brought a proposal of her cousin, it broke their hearts. They thought, "Oh have we reached to this extent that we should marry our own brother (cousin)? She shared with her Hindu friends and in her office with her American friends and they said, "it is stupidity." Well, days passed by and they forgot this incident. But after one and a half years they brought the same proposal again. It was too painful for her. She knelt down for prayer and because of pain she could not speak a single word before God but tears rolled down her cheek. How long she cried she did not know. Jesus came and He smiled and asked, "why are you crying, my daughter?" She said, "I can not bear this pain, it is too much." He smiled and wiped away her tears with His hands. And He comforted her. He gave her peace that passes all understanding. Yes, men's counsel or advice will break your heart but God's counsel will heal your heart.

Few months back I heard one pastor advising for marriage said, "my sister was given in marriage to a drunkard and she used to come home very often and cry and ask my father why he did that?" But after many years her son became a pastor. So he said that there is no problem in getting married with a drunkard man. When I heard that, it broke my heart. Yes, men's counsel will break your heart. David was broken hearted because Amalekites attacked Ziklag and had taken captive the women and children and those who were there small or great. When David and his men came to the city, they found the city burned with fire; and that their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. (1 Samuel 30:3 -4, 6). And David took counsel from God as the Bible says in 1 Samuel 30:8, "So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all." And we can see further that David and his men went and overtook them and they recovered all whatever they lost.

If you are going through problems look to Jesus. His counsel will heal your broken heart and give you counsel of peace and joy.

JESUS THE LEADER AND COMMANDER

By Sheela Isaac

Isaiah 55:4, "Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people."

God has given Jesus to us as a leader and commander. What happens when God becomes our leader and commander? Let's quickly look into the life of Abraham.

Genesis 12:1 "Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you."

Here Abraham is getting a command to go to a land he had never seen. An odd situation. The command doesn't look logical. The question pops-up, why should he go when he is doing good in his own land? Is God crazy to call him out of his country? But for Abraham there were no questions because God was his commander and He had his trust in the Lord. In Verse 4 we read "So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him." That was his first step of getting into the faith zone.

While we move forward, keep in mind that along with the commandments Abraham had a great promise from God. Verse 2-3 describes those promises.

With his first obedience comes second promise for him in verse 7. God promises him that, "this Land I will give to your descendants."

Every Step of obedience brought Abraham a new blessing. When God gave him a command some times it looked as foolishness, some times it looked to be impossible. And as Abraham was on the one side a person with great faith on the other side he had problem digesting God's commandments. In Genesis 15 we read a conversation between God and Abraham. In fact a complaint that he is childless. God promises Abraham In Genesis 15:4-5

Genesis 15:4, "And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir." Genesis 15:5, "Then He brought him outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be."

It looked impossible but still Abraham believed God and it was counted as righteousness. Now as the time slipped through Abraham's faith began to shake and He instead of waiting for God to fulfill His promises tried to fulfill by himself. And now behold he is having a child through Hagar. One wrong step brought conflict in the house of Abraham, Sara is getting angry complaining to Abraham. Hagar getting into trouble running from her mistress. And in Genesis 17:1 again a conversation of Abraham with God.

Here you see some difference in the Conversation.

Genesis 17:1, "When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless." Genesis 17:2 , "And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly."

God is calling Abraham back to a holy walk, a blameless walk. Indicates God's warning for Abraham's slip. Also looks like the first trust is some where missing. As we move ahead we read in Genesis 17:17 Abraham fell on his face and laughed.

Genesis 17:17, Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, "Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"

Oh yes, a serious problem in relationship with God. One time Abraham had trust on God and was willing to obey Him, let come what may. But now It looks that every thing is shaky. Instead of obedience Abraham is suggesting back to God. Looks like a shift of commander. Genesis 17:18, "And Abraham said to God, "Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!" Abraham is saying to God that he does not need a child any more. Ishmael is enough.

Genesis 17:19, "Then God said: "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him."

God says, "No! Abraham, things are not going to work the way you think. I am God I am going to make an everlasting covenant only with Isaac (child of Sara) and not with Ishmael. The promises I had given to you can not be fulfilled your way but they will come to fulfillment only by my way.

Have you ever tried to give commands to God? Abraham tried and failed. He had to come back to the leadership of God, he had to come back to obedience to God's commands. He obeyed and succeeded in his life.

Sara gave birth to Isaac when she was 91 years old. Looked impossible, but for God all things are possible. Through the line of Isaac Jesus came into this world. A Savior for the World.

Is Jesus your commander? If not it is time to make Him your commander. Do you want God to fulfill the promises in your life? Make Jesus the Commander and Leader of your life. May God bless you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
