Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Soon we are going to celebrate Christmas. The Bible declares, "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given... His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor..." Yes, Jesus is the good counselor. When He gives counsel, it would be accurate and perfect. If we look at the life of David in 1 Chronicles 14:8. When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, they came searching for David. David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand." (1 Chronicles 14:10) Here we see how David inquired to God and how he went to fight with Philistines on His direction and won the battle. When we read further we can see that the Philistines came again for fighting. So David inquired again of God, and God said to him, "You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines." David did as God commanded him to do and they drove back the army of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer. (1 Chronicles 14:14-16) Each time David got different type of instructions from God. David could have thought, "I will go and defeat the Philistines as I did before." Then he would have done a blunder and might have even lost his life. But because he inquired to God each time, God showed him the right direction. Many times we go through situations when that we can not predict and decide what would be right action and what could be wrong. In those moments only God can tell us which way to choose. If we read from the Bible, we can see how God lead every prophet of the Bible and every person who sought His guidance. Elijah and Elisha got accurate prophecies from God. Why? Because they paid the price, they spent time with God to communicate. They spent time to listen from God. Where are these types of people today? Where are those who can touch the heart of God and bring heavenly messages, heavenly counsel and heavenly solutions for people. I have seen many preachers and pastors who convey their own messages, their own counsel and their own solutions instead of conveying God's message and God's counsel. Good for nothing advice which may lead you to the pit before your time.... But if you want to know the heart of God, if you want to know a heavenly solution for your present situation there is only one method, spend time with God, kneel down and pray for hours together until He speaks to you. And the Bible says in Psalms 34:5, "They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed." If you look to Jesus and ask for His guidance, He would never let you down. He will guide you and lead you in the right direction. Man may fail you but Jesus will never. If you have any prayer request please feel free to send it to us. We will pray for you. SUSTAINING GRACE
By Sheela Isaac
Today we are going to see, 'what is sustaining grace' and how to obtain it? Many times we hear that, "God is Love, God is Merciful, God is Gracious. " Some people say "God is love, so, can such a loving God will destroy His own creation? Certainly not." Some say, God is gracious, His grace is enough. Yes God is gracious, He is very loving God, but on the other side, He is a righteous judge. He does not delight in SIN. He is zero tolerant towards SIN. Why? Bible says He never knew sin, in Him there is no darkness. He is such a holy God. In the worldly realm every country has some laws and rules. When a person fails to obey that man made rule, he/she ends up in jail. when a person commits some crime, the law of that country does not spare that person. So, how much more we need to fear God, Who has given His laws in the Holy Bible, Who is the creator of the whole world. Who has all the power and authority of this universe.. When a person fails to obey those laws, when a person fails to walk in God's ways, know for sure that the person will end up in HELL FIRE. We are going to see about two groups of people, who were both chosen by God, but how things ended in their lives. Let us see the life of Samson, a man who was chosen by God from his birth. God called him from birth as a Nazarite. God separated him for His work. He was a spirit filled man (Judges 13:25). He could do mighty things for God. But what happened to this man? His uncontrolled appetite made him to fall down. He could not walk in the ways of God perfectly. He saw a philistine woman and decided to marry her. Judges 14:1-2, "And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines. And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife." He forgot that he was a chosen vessel, he forgot that it is God's command that he should not have any relationship with uncircumcised people. One wrong decision brought a snare into his life and problem started here. Later we see that he could not learn from the lesson. He slipped for the second time, and found a woman named Dalilah. As you know the whole story how he walked away from God and how he ended up in despair. judges 16:21, "But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house." Samson's story is a good reminder for all of us. Once he was a mighty man. The philistines trembled before him, but disobedience brought him into such a pathetic situation. When a person fails to obey God his life ends up in misery and sorrow. But the good part of that story is that Samson REPENTED. He cried out before God, and God who is gracious and merciful forgave him. Yes my friend, once you might have walked in God's ways, once you might have done lot for Lord Jesus, but now you might have backslided. You may be thinking, "I've gone away so far now that I can't come back, now I am not having any chance to return." Remember, Jesus is gracious and kind. He will accept you. He is a God of second chance. You can come back by repenting from your sins. Second person's name is David. God raised him from a very low state and made him king. He was a man after God's own heart. He walked in God's ways. But something happened in between. He did the same thing as Samson did. He took another man's wife for himself and killed him. What was the result of that sin? He had to face death. His son who was born because of his sin died before his own eyes. He fasted and prayed but God did not hear that prayer. Lord's judgement came upon him. David was a man after God's own heart, but when he did sin God did not spare him. Later we see that he repented from his sins and that was why God did not destroy him. If we read psalm 51, there we can see the prayer of REPENTANCE of David. Now let us see another group of people. If we read the life of King Saul, we find that God' grace was upon him, and he became a king of Israel. God's spirit was upon him, he was a chosen man of God. But he did sin and disobeyed God. His sin does not look so grave as of David's, but God rejected him. What was the reason? Reason is simple. He was not having the mind of REPENTANCE. He never repented for his sins. What was the consequence of his unrepenting attitude? He committed suicide and ended in hell fire. If we read the life of Judas Iscariot, we see the same thing. Arrogance drives a person to hell fire - why? Humbleness brings REPENTANCE, but arrogance, proud heart, brings destruction. When a person humbles himself/herself it leads to life. It brings forgiveness of sin and eternal life. This is the key. If you repent from your sins before Lord Jesus you will reach heaven. But if you fail to do so in your lifetime, hell will be waiting for you. Think about it. Towards where are you heading? Towards heaven or hell? God is very gracious. His grace sustains us when we are willing to walk in His ways. Blood of Jesus Christ is available for all of us. Let us humble ourselves and come with repenting heart to Calvary's Cross and get that great salvation for which our Lord died on the cruel Cross. May God help you to know him personally.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 13th May. 2008
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 13th May. 2008
