Psalms 51:17, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise."

This verse says about what the sacrifices of God are, a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart. Yes, when your heart is broken and you have no where to turn, when you lose all your hope and reach to a stage where you feel, "I can not go any further", when you think that, "every thing is over", when you think that, "I can not put a single step forward." Oh! in that stage, God says, "come and pour your heart on my altar." Pour all your tears and all your burden on my altar as the Bible says in Lamentations 2:19, "Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord…."

And it is God’s promise that, "He will not despise a broken and contrite heart."

If we look in the life of Hannah, we can see that, she was a broken hearted woman. She had no children and it bothered her a lot. Not only that, her rival Peninnah provoked her severely and because of that she wept and did not eat.. But look at Hannah what she did: she went to the house of God and the Bible says in 1 Samuel 1:10, "And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish." And in the further verses we see that she poured her heart before the Lord. She poured her tears and her burden before the almighty God as the Bible says in 1Samuel 1:14-15, "So Eli said to her, ‘How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!’ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD."

How many times we forget to share our problems and our burden with God? How many times we forget to pour our hearts before God? We go to the house of God but never pour our hearts before God. We just read the routine prayer and do all the rituals and return to our home with all our burdens and tears. We never learned how to leave those tears, bitterness and burdens at the altar of God. But Hannah went and poured out her heart before God. She shared her heartaches with God. She shared the things which was hurting her most with God, she shared her anguish and sorrow and the things which were bothering her most. And if we read further, Bible says that, "she went from the house of God, ate and her face was no longer sad."

Yes, my friend, when we pour our heart before God, He gives peace, joy and happiness that the world can not give. He fills our hearts with joy that can not be described. Once a person asked me, what type of joy you are speaking about?" I said, "The joy that comes from the depth of your hearts, no matter what your situation is, you will feel a great peace and joy." Yes, this is the joy and peace which God wants to give us. Hannah poured her heart before God and God filled her heart with that joy and peace. And after some time she got a baby boy called Samuel who became a mighty prophet.

In these passion weeks when we remember the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, let God help us to learn to give our hearts, minds and whole body as sacrifice to the living God as the Bible says in Joel 2:13, "So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm."

Hell

By Sherly Isaac

Bible tells us about Hell. Let us look what type of place it is and who will inherit this place?

Hell is a place of torment. When the rich man went into hell he cried out as the Bible says in, Luke 16:24, "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame." Yes, it is a place of torment where souls will not die but live in torment forever. There is no water to quench the thirst.

Hell is a place where there is utter darkness. Bible says in Job 10:21-22, "Before I go to the place from which I shall not return, To the land of darkness and the shadow of death. A land as dark as darkness itself, As the shadow of death, without any order, Where even the light is like darkness." Once I read about a dying woman who was very sick but who hated preachers. Whenever a preacher or pastor’s name came before her, she jumped like anything and used to say, "Every preacher should be shot dead and killed. Every church should be burned in fire… They are just doing all these things for money. There is neither hell nor heaven. When a person dies, he/she die like any animal and nothing happens after that…" When she was in her last stage, one preacher went to pray for her. Her eyes where set and she was unable to speak anything. As soon as her daughter said, so and so has come who is a preacher. She jumped as if some one had shot her. When the preacher took her hand, she said, "oh, you are a preacher, tell me there is no hell! Oh, tell me, I said there was not any hell. I said there was not any hell. I said every preacher ought to be killed… I am afraid. Oh, I am afraid! I am afraid. It is so dark.. it is so dark it is so dark… by repeating this again and again she fell back on the pillow. And went to the land of darkness, went into hell.

Yes, it is a land of darkness where the lights there are also like darkness.

Hell is a place of fire and the fire there never quenches as the Bible says in, Mark 9:43 "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched." The fire is kindling there with a chemical called Sulfur(brimstone) as the Bible says in Revelation 19:20, "…These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone."

Hell is place of worm as the Bible describes in Isaiah 66:24, "And they shall go forth and look Upon the corpses of the men Who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, And their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh." And also Job says in, Job 21:26, "They lie down alike in the dust, And worms cover them." And also the Bible says in Isaiah 14:11, "Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, And the sound of your stringed instruments; The maggot is spread under you, And worms cover you."

Oh, it is a horrible, horrible place, where there is only gnashing of teeth and weeping. But the Bible tells us how we can avoid hell.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

If you want to see the kingdom of God, If you want to go to heaven, you must be born again. What is "born again"? Further Jesus says in John 3:5 –7, "Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again."

We have soul, mind and body. When a person takes birth in this world, it is a physical birth. But because of sin, our soul(spirit) is dead and it is necessary that we may be born in spirit, that’s what Jesus said in the above passage. He wanted to show that we must have to start a new life with Christ. How can we get this new birth?

1. Repent from your sins:

Ezekiel 14:6 "Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations."

We have to repent from our sins and turn to the living God. Many people think that they have never done anything wrong and so they have no sin in their lives. But the Bible says in 1 John 1:8-9, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

When we confess our sins to Jesus, He cleanses us as the Bible says in 1 John 1:7, "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."

2. Invite Jesus in your life and accept Him as your personal Lord and Savior:

Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."

Yes, He is standing at the door of your heart. Will you open your heart and invite Him in your life? Will you hear His knocking and respond to Him?

Today is the day of Salvation, today is the day.. You may never know what would happen the next moment or the next hour or the next day. But think about it today and act today before it may be too late. Once you die, there is no chance to repent and go to heaven but the time is here when you are alive.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
