Genesis 17:7 "And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.
Genesis 17:8 "Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."

This statement of the "covenant" confirmed that Abraham was to be a recipient of the promises of Yahweh. God has obligated Himself through this pronouncement to maintain His commitment to Abraham. God promised to Abraham that, He will establish His everlasting covenant between Him and Abraham and descendants of Abraham that, He will be God to them. It was a deal between God and Abraham. God said, I promise this to you now you promise Me to keep My covenant and God gave a sign for Abraham as we read in Genesis 17:10, "This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised;"

Genesis 17:11, "and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you."

God established His covenant between the Jews and Himself. And to keep that covenant it was necessary that one should be holy and submissive to God, that’s why Moses said in Deuteronomy 10:16,"Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer." Physical circumcision was important as the sign of the covenant and was intended as an outward act bearing eloquent witness to the cutting away of the hardness of sin from the heart of man. Though Abraham promised to walk in the ways of God. The Israelites could not walk in His holy ways. They fell in sin again and again and they forgot the promises and the covenant of God.

But God is faithful and He did not forget His covenant between Him and Abraham. In India there is a tribe called Rajput. I used to read the historical books and found very interesting thing about these people. They are called Rajputana families. If they promise to someone they never break that promise no matter even if they have to lose their lives to keep their promise. They are so much faithful and Loyal people towards their promise. If a man can keep his promise why not God?

And yes, God kept His promise and remembered His covenant with Abraham. He did not look at our unfaithfulness toward Him but He sent His only begotten Son in this world to save us from our sins. Jesus said in Matthew 26:28, "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Yes, Jesus gave His precious life and shed His precious blood on the cruel cross to keep His covenant but what is our response today? Did you ever think about this eternal covenant of God which He wants to establish in your life and wants to wash you from all your sins so that He may be your God and Father? If not repent from your sins invite Jesus in your life. When He will come in your life, you will be the sons and daughters (His heir) and all the promises of God will be for you.

Flower that will never fade

Psalms 103:14-18, "For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, to such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them."

Bible tells us about our life, how fragile we are and our days are nothing more than grass and flowers of the field. Life is very short. No one knows when the end will come. No one knows what will happen today, or next moment or next hour or tomorrow. One day I went to college and I heard the shocking news that so and so teacher passed away. I said, "what, day before yesterday, I talked to her and she did not show any sign of illness and she was quite normal." I could not believe what I heard, but it was a reality, she was gone…

Yes, this is life and we can not predict what is ahead of us, how long we will live in this world we can not fore-see it. With all the modern equipments and with all the modern measuring units we can not predict that how long a man/woman will live in this world. But every one knows that sooner or later this life will end. Only one question remains, "after death what?" Where will these people go after death?

Bible very clearly says about life after death, hell and heaven. We are made up of three parts i.e. body, soul and mind. One day our physical body will die but our soul will live forever and forever either in heaven or hell.

Jesus Himself said a parable about a rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19 – 31, "Lazarus died and carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom and the rich man also died and was buried and being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Rich man cried and said, ‘'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house, 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’"

You can not ignore life after death. Many doctors who saw people on death bed testified that some die with terrible fear as if they are going to a very hot or fiery place but some die with peace and joy as they were going to some very nice place. Some scientists did experiment on dying people. They weighed people who were about to die and soon after their death they again weighed them. And they found the amazing result that after death their weight was little less than before. They did the same experiment on animals but they found that there was no change of weight after death or before death. So they realized that there is some thing in human body which is released after death. And yes, it is the soul of a person as the Bible declares in Ecclesiastes 12:7, "Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it."

My dear friend, there is a life after death but you have to decide where you want to spend your eternity whether in heaven or hell. Heaven is a place of joy, peace and happiness but hell is a place of torment, pain, sorrow and tears. And hint is choose life, choose heaven…

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
