Psalms 116:12-13, “What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD.”

Today we are celebrating thanks giving day. God has done great things in all of our lives. No matter how small or big the blessings He gave us, He sustained our lives till today. Psalmist says, “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?” Yes, we can not give back anything to God for all His goodness and mercy which He showered upon us except to give thanks to Him and to praise His holy name.

When I look back and think, I can only say, “Thank you Jesus”. Oh, what He did in my life is so marvelous that my heart is full of gratitude and thanks towards my savior. When I felt hopeless, He came into my life and gave me New Hope to live. When I was in sin, He washed all my sins and forgave all my past. When there was no peace in my life, He gave me peace that passes all understanding. When I was in tears, He wiped away all my tears.

I remember the days when I was in sick bed and unable to walk. I never thought that I could ever walk again, but Jesus healed me completely. I remember the days when I faced failure after failure in my exams and the days when I thought that passing even the High School exams was beyond my reach. But when Jesus came into my life He gave me success in every aspect of my life. He helped me to pass my exams with flying colors. I got first class and second position in my M.Sc. Exams. It wasn’t possible without His help. I remember when our home was totally broken, I never thought whether peace will ever come in our lives or in our family, but Jesus changed everything and healed our broken home and wiped away all our tears. I remember when I was waiting to come over to USA, (my parents were in USA) when my waiting extended for six long years, I never thought I would ever make it. Many nights I woke up in fear and thinking, “Will I be able to see my parents again?” But it was God who did a miracle and enabled us to come over here. I remember the days when I searched for a job in USA and worried whether I will ever get a good job here. But it was God who gave us good jobs and exalted us before others.

“What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD.” With psalmist I raise my voice and say, “thank you Jesus for all the blessings you have showered in my life.” My dear friend, no matter how difficult your situation may be, if you look back and analyze your life, you will find reasons to praise God. I am sure God has blessed you and given you many blessings in your life. Just start praising for all the goodness, blessings and great things He has done in your life and you will see mighty miracles.

We wish all the readers of In Search of Peace magazine a very happy and blessed thanks-giving day. May God add more blessings in your lives as you praise and thank God.

Give thanks to the Lord

By Sherly Isaac

Bible tells us how the Jericho walls fell down when the people shouted with a great shout and how the Lord gave them victory.

We read in the 6th chapter of Joshua that, “Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. "You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. "And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him."(Joshua 6:1-5)

Sometimes we go through such a situation when we feel that all doors are shut securely and there is no hope. Joshua and all the Israelites went through the same situation. They had the promise of God that they were already given Jericho. But when they came to Jericho they found that all the doors were shut and there was no hope to enter into that city. And a very strange instruction came from God to Joshua. “All the people have to go around the city once for six days and seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day they should march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. When the priests make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when the people hear the sound of the trumpet, they are to shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat.”

And we read in Joshua 6:15-16, “But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: "Shout, for the LORD has given you the city!”

Again we read in Joshua 6:20, “So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.”

Though the instruction was very strange they followed it exactly and they saw the mighty miracle right before their eyes. They saw the walls falling down. Yes, my friend, you might be having problems appearing like big walls and you may be thinking, “how is it possible that these walls will ever be removed from my life? But Joshua and the Israelites shouted praises to God by faith and they were already winners. And it happened according to their faith. The same thing will happen in your life when you start praising God in your difficult situations. You may be looking all around and seeing nothing but huge walls - walls of sin or sinful nature, walls of financial problems, walls of debt, walls of problems, walls of uncertain future, walls of broken homes - and you might have thought, “these walls are not going down.” But I want to tell you today that, just start praising God. The same God who heard the praises of the Israelites and blew down the walls of Jericho will do the same thing to your problems and give you victory over every problem.

We read one more instance in 2nd Chronicles 20th chapter, about Jehoshaphat who was a king of Judah who faced the mighty army of Moab, with the people of Ammon and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against him. 2nd Chronicles chapter 20:2-3, “Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, "A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar" (which is En Gedi). And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.”

In his desperation he said, “For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." And all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the LORD.

Here we see a very desperate situation for Judah and all the people in that city. They had no power and they did not know what to do in that situation. How many times we go through these types of situations were we feel destruction very near and no hope of survival. But king Jehoshaphat looked to God without wasting his time and asked for help from God. When all things fail, God can help us in our desperate needs. When we feel, “now it is over and nothing can happen” and at that time God works in a mighty way. Jehoshaphat was in the same situation but we see the miraculous deliverance in his life.

Further we read that God spoke to him through the prophets, “Thus says the LORD to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. 'You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you."

Many a times we forget that the battle is not ours but God’s. If we are His children, if we are washed by His precious blood, He will take care of us in whatever situations. We need not to worry for anything no matter how worse our situation may be.

2 Chr 20:18 –22, “And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever." Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

And they started praising God. And the Bible says, “as they went out before the army and were saying: "Praise the LORD, For His mercy endures forever." Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.”

Yes, praising brings victory in our lives no matter how big our problems may be. When we start praising in our adverse situations, we see victory overcoming that situation. We see victory over our problems. We see victory in our lives. Why should we live in defeat, why bow down before the enemy? Take victory by shouting praises to God and by giving thanks to Him.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
