After coming to USA when I went to work in an office, I was waiting at the reception and after a few moment the manager came with a big smile, received me and showed me the way were I have to go. Later on I realized that he was my manager and it was a real surprise for me. Because if you go to work in India no officer will come to receive you nor will he show any smile or friendliness. They sit very seriously and you have to stand before them with respect and fear. Not only in my office in USA but wherever I went for an interview I experienced the same type of reception with a big smile. Many a times I wondered and thought, how happy they are but the reality is something different. They are smiling from the outside while their hearts are totally broken and crushed. Yes, we are living in a sugar quoted society. We try to suppress our feelings but never learned to remove the problems from the very roots. Our hearts and lives are filled with bitterness, anger, rejection, years and years of hurt, pain and tears and we are trying to smile and suppress those things and showing others as if we are very happy and nice people. That is the reason why we see occurrences such as Columbine High School shootings. That is the reason why we see sudden shootings in churches, schools and market places. All the anger, pain and frustration, which were suppressed for a long time comes out suddenly and burst like explosion. Not only is our society sugar quoted but today’s Christianity is also sugar quoted. Once when I wrote a message about “dating, marriage and divorce” I got mail after mail which said, “you are wrong… you have warped the word of God…” one lady wrote to me and said, “I will throw you in jail and prove you that you are wrong.” And I thought whether she is going to prove that the Bible allows adultery? Many wrote, “we will take legal action…” why? Many wrote, “shut down your web site because it talks offensive things about our God and our belief.” But there is no one to stand and say to Peter Jennings that his TV. presentation of “The Search for Jesus” is wrong and totally misleading. When Goliath was defying the army of the living God, David said in 1 Sam 17:26, “Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" Yes, my friend, David did not go and kiss the feet of Goliath, he did not say, you are doing a great job but he killed Goliath. As long as we Christians bent down and kiss the feet of the devil, we are not going to see any blessings. We are not going to see any prosperity, but we will see misery, pain and tears. Today we need to stand up and say to the devil, “its over. Devil I am not going to kiss your feet anymore, get out of my life, from my house and from my country.” Time has come to stand straight and fight against the devil and take back what we have lost. Devil has stolen everything from us but if you will stand up and fight against the devil, he will flee from you and you will see blessings of God coming in your life. Take a first step today. Clean your heart by inviting Jesus in your life. When He comes in, He will change everything. He will turn your misery and pain to blessings. Last week we started with Paul's credibility and ended with discussing Original sin. We saw that Paul got every thing from Jesus directly so it is God speaking. We also saw that Peter endorsed Paul's writings. So we have two witnesses for Paul. Today we are going to look into the Gifts of Holy Spirit - is it Paul's invention? Let us read 1 Cor 12:7-11 1 Cor 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:” 1 Cor 12:8, “for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,”1 Cor 12:9, “to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,” 1 Cor 12:10, “to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” 1 Cor 12:11, “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” 1 Cor 12:7, “says "manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one" Now you need to notice that these are manifestation of Spirit and hence only a person who is filled with Holy Spirit can have these manifestations.” Secondly, these manifestation are given not for fun but for the profit of all. Today we are going to concentrate on 1 Cor 12:8 where we read about the gift of knowledge. Many times I heard people saying about a great scholar or great theologian that they have gift of knowledge or wisdom. We need to understand that a person's natural ability that comes by acquiring knowledge by reading lot of books and literature is different from the gift of word of knowledge coming from Holy Spirit. It is gift of Holy Spirit and Holy Spirit is God himself so these gifts must have the divine power and qualities of God manifested. Let us look at a few examples of God's knowledge being manifested in the lives of people. Syria was planning to make war with Israel. And God revealed all the plans of Syria to Elisha for which no intelligence agency or transmitters, or hidden cam were involved. 2 Ki 6:11, “Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?" 2 Ki 6:12, “And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." That is what happens when a person is having the Gift of word of knowledge. God reveals knowledge about what is happening. Let us turn to one more incident. Elisha was praying in his room. No Television was invented till that time, No video camera was available. He saw from his prayer room that his servant Gehazi was running after Naaman and getting the money, cloths etc. 2 Ki 5:25, “Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, "Where did you go, Gehazi?" And he said, "Your servant did not go anywhere." 2 Ki 5:26, “Then he said to him, "Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants?” Gift of knowledge, what a precious gift it is. It is given for the edification of church. You may have a question, “wait a minute but 2 Kings 5:27 says about Naaman's leprosy being transformed to Gehazi. Is it edification?” Answer is simple. God wants His church to be without spot and without blemish. He punishes the guilty. 2 Ki 5:27 "Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever." And he went out from his presence leprous, as white as snow.” I know one more question is bubbling in your mind, “hey this is all Old Testament stuff. Did not things change in New Testament"? Let us examine. Turn with me to Acts Chapter 5. There was a man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira. They sold their land and reported less price to Peter. But Peter was standing there with full of the gift of knowledge. But Ananias and his wife did not know that they can not hide it from Almighty God. Acts 5:4, “While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” Acts 5:9, “Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” Gehazi could not hide from Elisha, Annaias and Sapphira could not hide from Peter. Yes my friend, gift of word of knowledge is a supernatural gift and is gift from Holy Spirit. Let us not make it cheap by equating this with human knowledge. All these examples we looked to so far dealt with the past and the present. What about the future? A time came when God decided to wipe out Sodom and Gomorrah because their sin was very grave. Gen 18:20, “And the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, But their was a righteous man called Abraham. God came down to reveal that He was going to do it. I have thought many times what was the need for God to come down and tell it to Abraham. But God loves His people beyond measure. And He loves righteousness and He knew that Abraham will teach his children to walk in Lord's ways. Gen 18:18, “since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?” Gen 18:19, “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” Abraham didn't need to read news paper headlines of CNN or MSNBC. He knew what the news headline of tomorrow would be. Gift of word of knowledge. Let us turn to Genesis Chapter 41. We see that Pharaoh the king of Egypt saw a dream and was rest less. He called all his wise men to interpret the dream but no one was able to. Finally a young man named Joseph sold to Egypt by his brothers was called and he revealed the meaning of the dream about seven years of great harvest followed by seven years of famine. It happened exactly the same. Fore Knowledge of God. God revealed what was going to happen in the coming 14 years. Let us turn to Daniel Chapter 2. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon saw a dream. He will not tell his dream, instead he asked his wisemen, magicians to tell the dream and interpretation too. What a crazy idea to ask somebody else to tell the dream he had seen. Daniel prayed with his friends and God revealed the dream (Past knowledge) and God also revealed the meaning of the dream about what is going to happen in the future (Fore Knowledge of God). Most of what Daniel revealed has been fulfilled exactly and is still getting fulfilled. Yes my friends, Gift of word of knowledge gives access to God's great knowledge. Next time if somebody says that he or she had acquired gift of knowledge by reading some books tell them that the God we serve is not that small to be compared with human knowledge. He is God the all knowing.
We have just entered the Lent season and soon we are going to celebrate another Good Friday and Easter. Christianity is based only on this great event. Lord Jesus Christ died on Calvary's cross to save you and me. Only thru the blood of Jesus can one attain eternal life and a place in heaven. Many fast on this Lenten season. Now Let us see some basic things about fasting:1. What is fasting?2. What is true fasting?3. What is the purpose behind fasting? What is fasting? What does it mean by fasting? Abstaining from food and spending time at the presence of God is called fasting. What does Bible say about prayer and about how one should pray. Read, Mat 6:6, "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Yes this is the right way to spend time in prayer. Going alone for spending time in prayer without food is called fasting. What is true fasting? If you go to India you will find hundreds of types of fasting. Hindus do fast with fruits, with sweets, with milk, with water, with special types of food and so on....They observe different kinds of fast on different days. What the Muslims do? The whole day time they do not eat anything. But they are allowed to eat anything during the whole night time. Do you think that these are real fast?In the same way some Christians go to office for work, or to school and do not eat anything and they call it fast. To me it looks like starvation rather than fasting. Now, what is true fasting? What should one do during fasting? If you are fasting, try to stay away from all kinds of work. Try to spend maximum time at the presence of God. Try to pray/read Bible all the time. If you are looking after your house hold work, try to prepare food the day before the date of fasting and keep it in refrigerator, so that others may not disturb you, and you can spend your whole time in prayer. If you are working or studying, take a day off from your office or school for fasting and prayer. In US it is too easy because Saturday and Sunday are off days for almost everybody. So that one can fast on Saturdays.What is the purpose behind fasting? Why one should fast? Is it necessary to take fast? Yes, if you are a believer (saved) you should fast once a week. You should keep aside a day to spend time in prayer. Lord Jesus said to His disciples Mat 26:41,"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. 1. Fasting brings deliverance:If we read the story of Esther we find that she and her people were in critical condition. The King gave decree to kill all the Jews of the time of Esther. Esther knew that only God could change this situation. So Esther declared three- day fasting. Though she was a queen she knew that only fasting and prayer could bring deliverance. Est 4:16, "Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!"She knew that only fasting and prayer could save her and her people. Fasting made her bold to go before the king. Because of fasting she could win that battle. People of Nineveh were living in sin and God decided to wipe out the whole city from the face of the earth. He sent His prophet Jonah with this message. Jonah 3:4, "And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!"When people heard that, they believed the words of the prophet and fasted and repented from their evil ways. Jonah 3:5, "So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them".God who is merciful and compassionate did hear their cry and delivered them. He did not destroy them.Fasting brings deliverance. If you are in bondage of sin and not able to come out, take fast and pray and you will see deliverance. If you are in some addiction take fast to get rid of it. 2. Fasting brings Revelation: Moses was a leader over more than 600,000 people. He was leading these people from Egypt to the land of Canaan. He was able to lead these people not because of his own ability or because he was such a genius to do so. We read in Bible that every time he did something new or took a new step, he got direction from God. He did not do anything of his own thinking. Moses fasted for forty days and forty nights just to get message from God, just to know what God wanted him to talk to His people. After fasting for this many days he could bring Ten Commandments from God. Fasting brings revelation from God. If you are a preacher and preaching the gospel, you should be able to receive the revelation from God. It comes only by much prayer and fasting. Only God can reveal what to preach and what not. When you spend time with Him, He will speak to you every thing. What would be the title of message, what would be the contents, what would be the whole message and so on.......... Somebody said: "if you want to prepare a sermon, you can prepare it by studying different kinds of books and Bible, but if you want 'God's word' you should pray and tarry at His feet." Unless you hear from God it will not be God's message for the specific occasion. It is just a message or thought, which came from your intellect. It does not help anybody.Think about what type of fast you are doing? Did you ever fast? Did you ever think of spending some time with the Lord? If not, think what kind of a Christian you are? If you are a Christian you should fast once a week. If you did not do so far, start doing it. Spend atleast a little time at the feet of God. Skip one meal and pray and slowly you will find that it is not too hard. May God bless you

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
