Genesis 5:3, "And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth." When we read the first chapter of Genesis we can see, how God created man in His own image and in His own likeness. (Genesis 1:26-27) Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Adam and Eve were made in the image and likeness of God. But when we come to Genesis 3rd Chapter we see that something terrible happened. They disobeyed God and sinned against God. They did what God forbid them to do. And by doing this, they distorted themselves. Now they became distorted and had a corrupted image of God. They lost the original image in which they were created. And Bible says in Genesis 5:3, ""And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth." Now Adam was producing copies of his own likeness which was distorted and corrupted after he fell from grace. Many people think, "Adam and Eve sinned and God forgave them and the matter was settled then and there. So the sin of Adam and Eve does not effect us." It is true that God forgave them, but the damage was already done. Original copy was lost and the image in which Adam was created was already corrupted and distorted. Sin, misery, sufferings and pain are the consequence of the sin of Adam and Eve. We are nothing but the same corrupted and distorted copies of Adam and Eve. The same sinful nature is flowing through us. Jesus came down to this world And to correct the damage, distortion and corruption. He came to undo what Adam and Eve did. He came down to erase the past and to give to us the same image and likeness which Adam and Eve had, before the distortion or corruption took place. He came down to transform us to the image and likeness of almighty God. Have you got this transformed life or do you still have distorted and corrupted image? If you have not yet received the transformation then please repent from your sins and invite Jesus into your life. When He comes into your life, He will change everything. Today many are depressed and discouraged because of their own problems. Many commit suicide because they are unable to face the problems. Many think, "there is no use of living in this world", or some say, "my life and future is over." Let us examine from Bible the life of two persons who went through terrible problems but came out vicarious. Their future became bright and glorious. When we see the life of Joseph we find that he was a man of sorrow. At a very young age his mother died. He was raised by his loving father; but his brothers could not realize the significance of this and they became enemies of Joseph. His own brothers tried to kill him but finally sold him as slave. How terrible it is that his own family members hated him. His enemy was not any outsiders but his own brothers. Oh, they sold him to be a slave. Joseph not only lost the love of his father but also his freedom, his home and everything that he can think of and he came to a land where no one was his own. Joseph might have thought, "my future is over. My life is over. Now there is no hope to see my father again or return to my homeland." After reaching this new land, he became prosperous but it could last only for a short time. Soon he was again put in jail for no reason at all.(Genesis 39) If we look from a worldly point of view, it has the appearance of a tragic end of his life. His troubles were not over in that land too. But the Bible says that his life or future did not stop there. Bible says that God was with him always as we read in Genesis 39:21, "But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison." When you go through problems and tears, God is not quietly sitting indifferent of your pain. He is a God who cares for you. When you go through problems, He will come with you and console you and comfort you. As David said in Psalms 34:4, "I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears." The day came when Joseph was not only out of prison but also attained a prestigious status as a ruler all over Egypt. Why? Because he trusted on the almighty God and refused to give any place to discouragement and depression. He refused to worry. When we trust in God, He removes the worry of fear of future from our hearts. He gives the peace that passes all understanding. But if we give way to worry, it would be disastrous as the Israelites did when they murmured against God and there by perished on the way. But Joseph’s case was different. He forgot everything in the presence of God and hoped for a better tomorrow. And God rewarded him with a bright future. Are you in this condition today? Have you lost every hope for future? Are you thinking, "My life or my future is over"? My friend look to Jesus, He will do the same thing for you as He did in the life of Joseph. Look at the life of Ruth a young widow of Moab. According to the law of the Israelites, if husband dies, she can marry his brother. But Ruth did not have any brother-in-law. Every door of hope was shut down for Ruth. She not only lost her husband but also any hope for her future. Her future, her dreams and her life were all in jeopardy. But she trusted in the almighty and living God. And God made her future bright. She not only got a noble husband but also got the honor of becoming the ancestor of the promised messiah. All the doors of hope might have been shut down in your life and you may be thinking that there is absolutely no hope for you. But if you trust in the God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob then one day He will lift you up as He did for Joseph and Ruth. The same God who pulled Joseph out from the jail and gave him a bright future, the same God who wiped away all the tears of a young widow, can do the same thing for you.
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
