Mat 6:31-34, "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Jesus said in these verses that, we do not need to worry about anything because our heavenly Father knows our needs and He is capable of providing for us. If you are a child of God, if you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you need not to worry about anything because God will take care of you as a father takes care of his family. Jesus also said, "The Gentiles seek all these things and go after it and worry about it, but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you." Bible tells us about many who were called for great destination and for great and mighty things but they fell from their calling because they went after money, fame, women or men. They were so focused on worldly things that they totally lost their way and their end was terrible. On the one side God wants to bless us, but He cannot bless those who reject Him or who wants to walk away from His will.

Many think that whatever is happening in our lives are according to the will of God and that we are part of it. But the whole Bible tells us of people who knew the will of God and who walked according to the will of God. If they did not obey God, they were punished and they lost the blessings from God. When God created Adam and Eve, they were happy and were blessed. And God told them specifically that they should not eat the fruit of the tree which was in the midst of the garden, but they rebelled against God. They could not do according to the will of God and the result was chaos, death and destruction.

Bible tells us about the sons of Eli. They walked as they wanted and acted wickedly. They forcefully took the offerings of God for themselves. 1 Sam 2:16 says, they answered him, "No, but you must give it now; and if not, I will take it by force." And 1 Sam 2:17 says, "Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men abhorred the offering of the LORD." And the Bible further says that the whole family was destroyed in one day. That's what happens when a person wants to reject God for some money or worldly things.

Saul a man whom God chose to be king of Israel was so obsessed with his dignity and self esteem that he forgot that it was God who brought him up to this high position. When God lifted him up and made him a king, he rejected God and disobeyed Him. God told him to do something but he did the opposite of it and so God finally rejected him. And we read about the tragic end of his life.

Yes, my friend, it is terrible to reject God and disobey Him. But still God is merciful, if we repent and turn to Him. He is ready to forgive and forget our sins and He want to bless us. God called Samson but he went after women and lost everything and so even God left him. But the good part was that he repented from his sin and turned to God. And God heard his prayers and gave him the power that he lost.

If you are a child of God, but if you are not walking according to the will of God, you need to repent and turn to God before it may be too late. He wants to bless your life and wants to fill you with his peace and joy but you have to come back and seek Him and His righteousness first. Then all these things shall be added to you. The psalmist says in Psalms 34:10, "The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing."

Sin Destroys

By Sheela Isaac

When we go through Bible carefully we find that all those who lived in sin have perished. Bible speaks about the consequences of 'SIN' with much emphasis than anything else. Sin is the major factor which leads to destruction.

We hear people saying, "little sin is ok, nobody can lead a perfect life, nobody can be perfect or can be without sin, Each and every person commits some mistake or other, that is, (sin). So it is better not to worry about it." Or that, "Perfect holiness is impracticable. In the Old Testament days, Bible speaks about severe punishment. But now we are in grace period, so for us it does not apply."

Well, read the Bible carefully and you'll find that these statements are inconsistent from biblical point of view. Bible does not support these theories, which we often hear from people. When Bible does not support these theories, the question is, who is right? The person who proclaims such ideas? or Bible?

Read the life stories of people, prophets, priests etc. of Bible. You will find that God is an impartial God. He is not a respecter of persons. God has been treating each and every person impartially - whether they were prophets, priests or ordinary people. All of them got the exact punishment they deserve for their sin. Bible does not say anywhere that if you are a prophet or a priest you have a special discount or concession. Bible says, "what you sow you will reap also." If you sow in a sinful life style one day you'll reap a place in hell. If you ignore the commandments of God and live as you like, know for sure that it has its consequence. God is a just God. He does not tell lies. So he will not give you some concession or special consideration as we often hear from pulpit. He will not say, "Alright, you are born in a Christian family. So you are already a child of God. Here is a special pass for you to enter heaven." Will He say that? No, You cannot bribe God. He is not a mortal man that you can deceive Him. You can deceive people, you can play different tricks for your gain with people, but the day will come when your tricks will not work before the Almighty God. The day will come when God would say, "keep your tricks with you I do not know you."

In God's eyes, there are only two categories of people. Holy or Sinful, Righteous or Sinner, Heaven bound or Hell bound. You cannot say to God at that time, "look I belong to this Church or this denomination. My Pastor has already given me a certificate that I've a place in heaven, he said that I am already a child of God."

Your pastor or your parents cannot determine your destiny. You are the person who can determine your own destiny and it is your responsibility to find out where you are going. You are the person to see whether you have a place in heaven or not. You've to make sure that you are heading towards heaven and not to hell. Let no one fool you. Nobody can ever tell your spiritual status by looking at your face. But it is you, it is your heart which knows what you are doing, what you are thinking, what you are planning. Think about yourself and decide whether you are pure and holy in the sight of God? What you plan in your home or with friends about anybody else, before you execute the plan, think whether it is right in the sight of God? When you sit before TV to watch all the filthy and dirty stuff think about it, will it be pleasing to God? Is it possible that God will sit beside you and watch all the rubbish things? When you go to drink in a bar or in a party, or go to dance in a nightclub, think about it, think whether God likes it? When you sit and dream about making money by various wrong ways would it be correct in the sight of God? Will God come with you to all these places? Will God stand with you for all these types of planning? You know the answer.

Bible very clearly describes that sin is sin. Look at the life of Joshua and the Israelites. They were celebrating the great victory. They were glad that God has blessed them. They won the city of Jericho. They won the battle. But there was a condition that no body should take any accursed thing from that city, nor even gold, silver or any costly items. It was the command of God. Bible says that there was a man named Achan in Israel's side. He could not obey that command. He was lusting after money, gold, silver and wealth. He might have thought, "This is the best way to become rich in just one day. If I take a little bit of it who is going to watch." He might have thought, "God do not have eyes, He does not see anything. Or, he might have been thinking, "breaking one commandment does not hurt anybody. God is a God of compassion and mercy. He will not get angry because nobody is perfect. Because nobody can lead a holy and perfect life, so it is ok."

What was the consequence of this sin? They went to conquer the city of Ai. But they could not. They ran from their enemies. They lost 36 men in this battle. Joshua could not believe it. He knew that something was wrong. He knew that God is not happy with them. He knew that God was not with them and that was why they had to face defeat. Joshua cried out before God. He put ashes on his head and wept before God for mercy.

Josh 7:7 And Joshua said, "Alas, Lord GOD, why have You brought this people over the Jordan at all; to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Oh, that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan!
Josh 7:8 "O Lord, what shall I say when Israel turns its back before its enemies?

God said to Joshua, "Israel has sinned. That's why children of Israel could not stand before their enemies."

Josh 7:10 So the LORD said to Joshua: "Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?
Josh 7:11 "Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff.

Yes, sin destroys. Sin has its own consequences. Sin brought defeat and shame in the lives of Israelites. Sin brought disgrace in their lives. One man's sin brought defeat for the whole community. There were more than 600,000 people in that camp, but one man's sin brought shame and destruction for the whole community. Yes, if you are working as a team in God's ministry, One man's fall could bring destruction for the whole team. You cannot serve God or stand before God with sin. You cannot play with sin and still think that God will help you. God wants holiness than anything else. God looks at the heart. Bible says that He knows the very thoughts and intends of a heart. You cannot live in sin and think that all is well saying that ‘Little Sin’ does not hurt.

Further God says, "I'll not stand with you till there is sin in your camp." Yes my friend, God and sin cannot go together. You cannot live in sin and still claim that you are a godly person. Many are out there who behave, as if they are good believers or saved people, they sing songs saying that they are going in rapture first, while you may wonder to see that they are not even born again. If you are a believer let your life and conduct show that you are really a follower of Christ. If you think that you are saved, you must know how to hate sin and long for holiness. You must know how to obey God's commands.

Josh 7:12 "Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.

Here God says, "I will not go with you till I see sin in your camp." When they went to fight with people of Ai, God did not go with them. The result was defeat from the hands of enemies. Not only that, further God says, "Unless you remove the accursed thing from your camp I will not go with you anymore." in the same way, God wants to tell us that He will not stand with us when we live in sin. He will not stay with us till we practice sin for our personal gains. Till we repent from our sins and turn from our wicked ways God will not hear. Repentance is that key to turn from sinful and wicked ways and find favor in the eyes of God.

Now what happened to Achan? Joshua brought all the tribes and families to find out who the culprit was. Finally he found that Achan was the person who committed sin. Now what was the consequence of this sin? Did God say, "it is a little sin it does not hurt, so let him go free." No,.. Bible says, "they stoned him to death not only him but his whole family and all the livestock."

Josh 7:24 Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the garment, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them to the Valley of Achor.
Josh 7:25 And Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you this day. "So all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.

Yes, "wages of sin is death."
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The soul, which sins, will be destroyed. It is God's law because He is a just judge. If you live in sin the same punishment is applicable for you too. Sin destroys. But there is a way out. You can come out of your sin and lead a holy life. That's why Jesus came into this world. He came to pay the utmost penalty for human soul. Jesus shed His precious blood on Cross-to save you and me. He died on behalf of us so that we may not end up in hell fire. Mat 20:28 "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." He gave His life so that we may not die in sin, so that we may not loose eternal life. You can have this eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. You can come out of your sin and misery. You can lead a holy life.

Jesus' blood not only cleanses us from all unrighteousness but it gives us holy life. His Blood has power to give us holiness. His blood can, not only cleanse your past sins but has the ability to save you from future sin. Are you in sin today? Do you know for sure where you are heading? Do you know for sure that you have a place in heaven? Are you struggling hard to lead a holy life? Come to Jesus and ask for His help. He will wipe away your sins and give you eternal life and holiness.

Pray this prayer with me:
Lord Jesus I am a sinner. Lord I tried to lead a holy life but I am sorry that I failed miserably. I am not able to lead a holy life. Please help me. Please wash away all of my sins in your precious blood. Cleanse me and make me white as snow. Your word says, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool." Yes Lord, according to this promise cleanse my life with your blood. Forgive and forget my sins. Make me a new creation. Give me grace to do things according to your will. Help me to do things which only pleases you. Make me holy. Lord I praise you for hearing this prayer. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.

Why Sacrifice was needed – Part 7

By Sherly Isaac

To give us a new hope:
Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

When Adam and Eve sinned against God they lost every hope of any good thing in their lives. Their future was dark before them. Today many in this world are in this condition where there is no hope or future for them. They are in total darkness. But God says in the above verse that He wants to give us a future and a hope. Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined."

Jesus came in this world and gave His life for us so that we could have a hope and a future. What type of hope and future did He want to give to us? He wanted to give us everlasting life and a permanent home in His presence. John 3:16 and John 14:1-2 says like this, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."

Those who die in Jesus, they have hope that they will not perish but have everlasting life. They have the future that they will dwell with God forever. There would be no sorrow, no pain or tears. Bible says in Revelation 7:17, "for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." And also in Revelation 21:4 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

Not only has God a better future and hope for us after our death, but also while we are in this world. Bible says in Hosea 2:15, "I will give her her vineyards from there, And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt."

Valley of Achor was a place where Israelites saw defeat and death because of Achan's sin. They lost all their hope because they faced a great problem there. Many mighty men died in battle. But God says, "I will make the Valley of Achor as a door of hope." The same place where they saw defeat and death, God promised to make it a place of hope and blessing.

Today you may be going through terrible things in your life. You may be seeing defeat and death around you and among you. But there is a God who wants to turn around your situation and wants to bless your life. He wants to give you a new hope. For this very purpose He came in this world and gave His own life for us and He is willing to bless our life. Look to Him and ask for His blessings.
