1 John 4:1, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world."Today many have claimed themselves to be the coming Jesus or Messiah. Many have come in the name of Jesus and proclaimed false prophecies and deceived many Some of those are David Koresh, Applewhite and others who claimed to have taught from the Bible but what they preached were neither according to the teachings of the Bible nor according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. But they somehow or other convinced many that they were the only mediator between God and man capable of taking the people to heaven. All those who followed such false prophets lost their lives under tragic conditions along with their leaders. Why it happened to them? The reason is simple. They blindly followed a cult leader rather than following Jesus. Applewhite promised his followers that Hale Bop Comet will pass from near the earth on a particular date. He told them to prepare themselves to catch the space ship by committing suicide. And the amazing thing was that those people who were highly educated and having great technical knowledge implicitly followed the order of their leader. Lack of Bible knowledge and their blind belief on their leader doomed them.That's what happens when a person follows another person blindly. There is another cult group in USA and spread over other countries also that was founded by a man who told his followers that, "We should show love to others as the Bible says, that is, love your neighbors." So he encouraged his followers to involve in sexual relationship with others no matter whether they were married to that person or not. Two of the girls ran away from that group and told the story to the rest of the world.How sad it is that some people manipulate the truth for their own gain or to satisfy their own lust. That's why the Bible warns us not to believe on every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God or not. Take every step carefully. Otherwise you may end up with some wrong group and your end would be tragic. Few days back I got an email saying, "I have read vol.5 / Issue 2 Editorial by Sherly Isaac and it is a good article but the story of the pastor has given a bad image to the readers as well as to the editor. Please try to avoid criticizing people by making fake stories."Well, such stories may sound as if they are fake ones to some people, but today many pastors are like that only. They are ready to jeopardize themselves and the whole congregation just for their own gain and just for money. They beat their fist in the air and call others fools and devil just because their purpose is not served. Just for money they are even ready to do anything. Even one pastor was ready to merge his whole Church with another church that supports gay and lesbian rights which is abomination and sin in the sight of God. Yes, I am talking about Pastors not about ordinary people. That's why we need to test every spirit including what the Pastors say. When John said, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God.", he did not exclude Pastors, prophets and apostles or those who have money and wealth, but he said, every spirit. We should test every spirit and know whether they are from God or not.If anybody comes to you and say wrong things and tell you that such and such abominable things are according to the will of God, You must plainly tell him/her that it is against the Bible. Bible says in 1 John 3:7-8, "Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil."Yes, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and to give us protection from all evil. Look to Jesus and follow Him, stay focused in Jesus and in His word and He will never fail you. And you will be safe in the arms of Jesus. The Bible says in 2 John 1:9-11, "Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds."
Messiah
John 1:29, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"Once again we have entered into the lent season. Why these days are very important? What is the significance of these days? Did Messiah really came to die for us? Jews believe that Messiah would not come to die for us but He will come as the King. That's why they are still waiting for the Messiah's arrival. But careful study of the Bible reveals that Messiah would come, suffer and die for the salvation of all people.Messiah - the Lamb of GodToday we are going to see whether the Messiah (Jesus) who came was the Lamb of God who took the sin of the world on Himself and died for us. The Bible says in Daniel 9:26, "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself."Not only the above verse but also many other verses of the Old Testament give details about the sufferings of Messiah. Isaiah prophesied in the 53rd chapter about the coming Messiah and His suffering. As we read in Isaiah 53:4-5, "Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." And also in Isaiah 53:10, "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand."All these verses tell us that Messiah would die not for Himself but for the world. He will carry the sins of the world. But the question why the Messiah became the Lamb? According to the Mosaic Law they took a lamb without blemish, killed it at the altar of God and shed its blood and Aaron's sons sprinkled its blood all around on the altar and on the people for the remission of their sins. But the blood of lamb and goats was not a permanent solution for the remission of our sins. So God Himself came down in this world. He who is holy and blameless, who is perfect and without sin became the Lamb to take away the sins of the world. Bible says in Lev 17:11, 'For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul."Lev 1:3 says, 'If his offering is a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it of his own free will at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the LORD." This verse says that the offering should be of his own free will and Jesus gave Himself for us. No one compelled Him. He Himself said in John 10:17-18, "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father." Punishment for our sin and consequences of our sin is sure. It is sure that if we live in sin, we will die eternally. But God Himself came down to deliver us from our sin and save our soul from eternal damnation. That's why Peter says in 1 Peter 1:18-19, "knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."Your money, wealth, fame, your status, your good works or your good life cannot save your soul from eternal damnation but only the blood of Christ who was the perfect Lamb of God who died for us can save you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 10th Aug. 2010
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 10th Aug. 2010
