2 Kings 2:23-24, "Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths."

Elisha was going to Bethel and some youths mocked him saying, "Go up, you baldhead!" And Elisha did not like the way how the boys treated him. They might have thought that it is a small thing to mock or say anything to a prophet but the consequence was terrible. They lost their lives. How many times we speak or do things without thinking what we are saying or what we are doing. But every word spoken against an anointed servant of God will bring disaster in your life unless God asks you to say anything about them. Because you are not speaking those words against a servant of God but against the Holy Spirit who dwells in him/her. Bible says in Matthew 12:31-32, "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come."

Yes, it is terrible thing to work against the anointed servants of God. If you do not know anything then shut your mouth and speak nothing. It is better to keep quite rather than gaining the wrath of God. I know of a servant of God and his family. Many tried to kill him and his family but no one could succeed. God protected them every time and no one could harm them. But those who tried to harm them one by one they died or were hospitalized with terrible diseases and with those diseases which no one had ever heard. But God's protection was with that family because they walked in the ways of God and obeyed Him in everything.

Samuel was an anointed prophet of God and Saul also was anointed by God destined to be king over Israel. Both were filled with Holy Spirit and were anointed of God. But Saul sinned against God and did not obey what God asked him to do. Samuel came to Saul and said to him in 1 Sam 13:13-14, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you."

Saul the anointed man was sinning against God and Samuel another anointed man came to him and said those words which was not pleasing to Saul but it did not harm Samuel. Because Samuel spoke whatever God asked him to speak. He warned Saul for his sins but it is a tragedy that Saul never repented from his sins. And the consequence was that God left him and he lost all his peace and finally evil spirit came and possessed him. He lost his kingdom and died a tragic death. All these things happened just as Samuel prophesied over Saul.

Many think that if you are a Christian you should shut your eyes and mouth and speak nothing against the wrong doings of others. And pretend as if the sinning person is a good person. But Bible does not condone these types of things. There were many prophets in the Bible who spoke openly to kings and authorities warning them that they were doing wrong and because of that they were persecuted or even they lost their lives. Sin is sin, God cannot tolerate sin. If you are sinning against God, there is judgment for it. Bible says, "Wages of sin is death." No body can sin and please God at the same time. If you want to please God, you much repent from your sins and turn to God. Live a holy life and walk in the ways of God. And you will see His blessings.

In whom you Rely?

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in Psalms 20:7-8, "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright." And also in Isaiah 31:1, "Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, And rely on horses, Who trust in chariots because they are many, And in horsemen because they are very strong, But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, Nor seek the LORD!"

Many in this world rely on the strength of this world like money, wealth, power and so on. They work day and night to get money and power. They think that if they have all these things in their lives, they will be in peace and be blessed. When many of them get money and power they forget God and look down on the poor and needy. While many a times God said in Bible that we should care for poor and needy and not treat them differently. Deu 24:15 says, "you should not treat poor badly lest he cry out against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you."

But sadly enough many rely on their wealth, good home, money and the works of their hand. But how long can you rely on these things? If you meet with an accident, or if your doctor declared a terrible disease in your life or in your family member's life in no time your bank balance will be empty.

In the year 2001 there was a major earthquake in Gujarat, India. It happened in that place where wealthy diamond merchants lived. They had business of millions of dollars but when earthquake hit that place it ruined everything. Big buildings fell within seconds and many died. I read in the newspaper about one woman who used to live in one of the big bungalows which was completely destroyed. She was wearing a beautiful diamond necklace and sitting in front of those ruins of her house. Her family members died in that earthquake and she had no money in her hand. She was so ashamed to ask others even two or three Rupees for getting milk. She could only look at those who were passing by with milk packets. This was the pathetic condition of that woman who had everything in her life just few moments back but now she was in the streets helpless. Yes, today you may be having everything in your life but if you rely on your wealth and money instead of relying on God, you cannot say for sure whether this wealth will be always with you or not.

In the second book of kings, Bible says that the king of Assyria sent a great army to Jerusalem when Hezekiah was the king in Israel. Rabsakeh said to them in 2 kings 19:19-21, "Say now to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: "What confidence is this in which you trust? You speak of having plans and power for war; but they are mere words. And in whom do you trust, that you rebel against me? Now look! You are trusting in the staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him."

And again the Bible says in 2 Kings 18:28-32, "Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, and spoke, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria! Thus says the king: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you from his hand; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: 'Make peace with me by a present and come out to me; and every one of you eat from his own vine and every one from his own fig tree, and every one of you drink the waters of his own cistern; until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive groves and honey, that you may live and not die. But do not listen to Hezekiah, lest he persuade you, saying, "The LORD will deliver us."

This man Rabshakeh was trying to turn people away from believing in the living God and to turn against king Hezekiah who was loyal to God. But when Hezekiah heard all these things he tore his clothes and went to the house of God. He declared a day of prayer. Then again he received a letter from the king of Assyria saying that no god could deliver the other nations from him then why he should trust that the God of Israel will deliver him or save him from his hands?"

But king Hezekiah went to the house of God and spread the letter before Him. And prayed to God, 2 Kings 19:15-19, "Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said: "O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands; wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."

In times of trouble Hezekiah trusted on God and asked for His help. And further we read that the prophet Isaiah came to him and said, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.'..." And God gave them miraculous victory over their enemies. We read in 2 Ki 19:35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses; all dead."

When we trust in God, He takes care of our needs and delivers us from all our problems and sicknesses. If you trust in material things, it will deceive you one day but if you rely on God, He will deliver you and blessings will come in your life.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
