1 Chr 15:12-13, He said to them, "You are the heads of the fathers' houses of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel to the place I have prepared for it. For because you did not do it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, because we did not consult Him about the proper order."Through these verses David admits his mistake of not consulting God regarding the right procedure to be adopted to bring the Ark of God and regretted for not doing the things in proper order. To know the whole story we should go back and read the thirteenth chapter. In 1 Chr. 13:1 we read that David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. But there is no indication whether he asked of God. Finally every leader agreed to bring the Ark of the Covenant of God to Jerusalem. So David gathered the whole Israel to come and join in the celebration. David and all Israel went up to Baalah, to Kirjath Jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up the ark of God the LORD, who dwells between the cherubim, where His name is proclaimed.The 13th chapter further says, "So they carried the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart. Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets. And when they came to Chidon's threshing floor, Uzza put out his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the LORD was aroused against Uzza, and He struck him because he put his hand to the ark; and he died there before God." (1 Chr 13:7-10) It is a real tragic story that Uzza died on the spot. One may ask why? The reason is very simple, they did not carry the Ark of Covenant in the proper order. When God commanded Moses to build the Ark of the Covenant, He said in Exo 25:14-15 "You shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, that the ark may be carried by them. The poles shall be in the rings of the ark; they shall not be taken from." Whenever Israelites moved from one place to another, Levites carried the Ark of the Covenant and all the furnishings of tabernacle. God also commanded them that only Levites should do all the work in tabernacle and that ordinary persons should not go near the Ark of the Covenant. God did not give access to ordinary persons. If any ordinary person tried to go in the holies of holy, he died. Because no one can stand before the holy God with their sins. David realized his mistake and says in 1 Chr 15:2, "No one may carry the ark of God but the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God and to minister before Him forever." He realized that no matter how they played the music whether with all their might or whether trying to do the things according to their own thinking to please God, but if it was not according to the will of God and not in the proper order, it was bound to become a disaster. David and the people really believed with all their heart that they were doing the right thing but it was not. Many a times we do things pleasing in our own sight and to our friends or relatives. Very often we do not pay much attention to do things in God's way. Many think that we are in grace period... we are in the New Testament age and so God will not care no matter how we do. But reality is somewhat different. Bible tells us what Ananias and his wife Sapphira did in the New Testament age. They sold a piece of land and kept a portion of the proceeds for themselves. When they came separately before Peter, they lied to him saying, "we gave the whole money." But Peter looked at them and said, "How you both agreed to lie to the Holy Spirit.." And both fell and died. Yes, it is in New Testament! For every sin you commit, there is a punishment for that. But if you repent from your sins and turn to God, He will forgive and forget all your sins. He will give you a new life.
Obedience is better than Sacrifice!
Ezek 18:23 "Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?" says the Lord GOD, "and not that he should turn from his ways and live?God wants to save every person. In order to do that, He speaks to the people in different ways. Sometimes people get convicted of their sins when they hear the message of Jesus Christ. Sometimes it happens in a different way. But if a person hears the voice of God and does not obey, it brings serious consequences in his life. Once I read the true story of a woman. When she was young, she heard the call of God in her life. But she did not respond to the call of God nor did she pay any attention to get forgiveness of her sins. She lived with her family and thought that her life was just good and going smooth. But it did not last forever. A day came in her life when she lost everything in her life, her family members, money, her home and everything. When she stood alone in the crossroads of her life, not knowing what to do, she remembered, how Jesus called her to work for Him but ignored those calls. In those last moments, she gave her life to Jesus and started working for Him. Later on she pleaded with people saying, "I came to Christ after losing everything but please do not wait until you lose everything. If God calls you, respond to Him that same moment." How true it is. Very often we do not pay much attention on what God is saying and what God wants us to do. And because of it we end up in mess or in problems.Once I went in a fasting prayer meeting. While I was sitting there, God told me to pray and break the witchcraft power of that home. When my turn came for prayer, I completely forgot about breaking the witchcraft power of that home. When I was returning home, I remembered the words of God and I felt very much upset about it. Needless to say that after that we had many witchcraft attacks and we went through terrible times. But God protected us and saved us from all evil. He did not allow us to fall through those attacks. I remember one more incident. One night my brother was very sick. My sister and I were praying for him. As I laid my hands on him and praying, God told me, "A person is doing witchcraft and sending evil spirits in your home. Sent them back to his house in the name of Jesus." Very often I heard people preaching that we should send the evil spirits to hell but I never heard from any preachers, evangelists or prophets saying to send the evil spirit back from where it came. So when I heard those words from God, I was a bit nervous. And I thought, "O Jesus, that person has kids, why I should send evil spirit back and trouble their lives?" Sometimes we think that we are smarter than God, don't we? Thinking it will bring trouble in their lives, I commanded those evil spirits to go to hell in the name of Jesus. And it seemed as if my brother was feeling better. So he went to sleep and I also. I woke up in the morning and I had no idea what happened to him in the night. At night he could hardly sleep even for half an hour. He was awake the whole night and sat in pain. He had high fever and because of fever his skin and eyes became red. I started praying to God and asking what the solution is for his sickness? Suddenly I heard God saying again, "If you take authority over those evil spirits in the name of Jesus and send them back from where it had come, your brother will be completely healed." As soon as I heard those words, I jumped and stood up and ran to my brother's room. I told my brother and other family members that this is what God has told. We all laid our hands over him and prayed in the name of Jesus and sent the evil spirits back. When I opened my eyes after praying, his fever that was above 103 degrees came down to normal. He was healed immediately. It really surprised us greatly. That day I learned my lesson. Yes, if God has told you something and if you know that it is from God, never argue with Him, but do it according to His word. He knows better than us. I still don't understand what the purpose was of sending back those evil spirits. But when we obeyed Him as per His word, healing came, blessings came and God restored my brother's health. He will do the same thing for you if you obey Him in every step.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 10th Aug. 2010
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 10th Aug. 2010
