Recently when Ms. Uma Bharti was elected as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh she was asked, "you have come a long way from Sannyasin to Politics, what is your aim now? She replied, "I am in search of Moksh (Freedom or Salvation) that is the main aim of my life."

Recently President of the United states of America, Mr. George W. Bush spoke in the state of the union address, " I believe that God has planted in every human heart the desire to live in freedom. And even when that desire is crushed by tyranny for decades, it will rise again."

Yes, every person's desire is to live in freedom. No one wants to live as slaves or in bondage or in hardship. Hindus believe that their good work will one day give them freedom from all their sins and that they will enter into the presence of God. They believe that until they get that freedom, they will be going in the cycle of rebirth. Muslims believe that Allah will judge them and reward them according to their work. According to them if their good works exceed their bad works, they will enter into heaven otherwise in hell.

And because of these beliefs many work very hard to achieve their salvation. I have seen Hindus in India having chosen hard life not because they yearn to live a good life but because of them desire to attain salvation. They wake up early and take bath in freezing water and go to temple on their bare foot. Sometimes they stand in the freezing water in river for hours. Sometimes they stand on one foot in scorching heat of the sun. Sometimes they cut their bodies, blood gushing out of their wounds. When I was studying in collage there was a girl with me. She vowed to torture her body for one month by denying the bare necessities of life. She was beautiful and she was from a good family. She chose to do that to please God. They torture their bodies, they give big amount of money to the poor people believing that God will be happy with their work and will grant them salvation.

But can we achieve salvation by our good works?

If a person kill someone, then go to another city and started a charity or start helping the needy and poor people, will his new undertaking erase his past sin of murder? The answer is no. Though he may go in a different city where no one knows his past, still he will live in guilt of his sin of murder. His good works cannot remove his sin or guilt from his heart. And if police catches him, he will be in jail for sure.

Bible says in Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away."

New Living translation says, "We are all infected and impure with sin. When we proudly display our righteous deeds, we find they are but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall. And our sins, like the wind, sweep us away."

If our righteous deeds cannot save us then what can save us from our sins? Jesus said in Mat 18:11, "For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost." We are lost in our sins and we need a Savior who can save us from our sins. That is the reason why Jesus came in this world and gave His precious life for us so that we could have eternal life. He said in John 3:15, "that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

No matter what your religion may be, you need salvation in your life and it is only possible through Jesus Christ. Come to Him and give your life to Him, He will save you and give you eternal life.

Republic Day of India - A Review

By Sherly Isaac

Every year on the 26th January we celebrate Republic Day in India. On December 31st, 1929 - January 1, 1930 midnight nationalists unfurled the Tri-color Flag in the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress and took pledge to celebrate "Independence Day" every year on 26th January and would unceasingly strive for the establishment of a Sovereign Democratic Republic of India. Because India was librated from the British rule on August 15, 1947, this day was celebrated as "Independence day" and 26th Jan as "Republic day" because on this day on 1950 Constitution of India was framed.

This was the dream of the founding fathers of India that they will establish a Sovereign Democratic Republic of India. Democracy means social equality. But now after more than 56 years of independence could we achieve real social equality? In the last eight years what had happened in India is just terrible. Today minorities have no voice and they cannot worship freely in India.

There were widespread riots in Gujarat in the year 2002. Amnesty International a human right activist says in its website, "Amnesty International believes that the state government, administration and police took insufficient action to protect civilians and in many cases colluded with the attackers and actively participated in the violence. There is credible evidence implicating police officers and members of Hindu nationalist groups, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in violence against Muslims. In these circumstances, Amnesty International has been concerned about the Gujarat government's ability to provide justice to victims of the violence."

Not only that but many Christians were also brutally killed, tortured and humiliated. Many were beaten badly, their worship places were ruined and demolished, their hands and legs were chopped off, they were made to walk naked in the streets of cities and villages. After all what was their crime? Just because they preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Christian, Muslims, Dalit and minorities are slave in their own country!

In this year when we are once again celebrating "Republic day" can we consider to yearn for equal rights to everyone? Freedom to everyone?

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
