Once I was watching news on TV. At that time some of the areas in USA were affected by draught. They showed dried up land with wide fissures and lakes about to dry up or already dried up completely. When they showed the lakes that were about to dry, it was a terrible scene. Big fishes were striving hard to survive and trying to remain with in the limited water available and by the side big spiders were sitting and waiting for catching the fish when water level goes completely down.

Water is the source of life and without water life is not possible. Today our scientists are trying to find out whether there had been any trace of water in Mars or not. They sent rovers millions of miles away, just to find out the presence of water. Just as we need water for our physical survival, in the same way we need living water for our spiritual survival. Bible says that God is the fountain of living water. In Jeremiah 2:13 we read, "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns; broken cisterns that can hold no water." And also in Jeremiah 17:13, "O LORD, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. "Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the LORD, The fountain of living waters."

There are many who live in dry land having no life or blessing in them. Many think that because they are born in a Christian home they are already eligible for going to heaven and they live in delusion. Their lives are miserable having no hope because they have never known the living God. But Jesus offers life and blessings to those who believe in Him. Jesus said in John 3:15-16, "whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

There are a second type of people who call themselves to be born again Christians but many of them live a double life. They put their one leg in water and the other one in dry land. They have not separated themselves fully from this world but on the one side they show themselves to be righteous and on the other side they live in sin. But they forget that if they live in sin, devil can one day destroy their lives.

Third type of people are those who really walk in the ways of God. They are merged in the living water receiving the blessings of God. Today also God wants to bless our lives. He does not want us to live in dry land, starve and have a miserable life. He does not want us to be a surface Christian not having enough in our lives. But God wants us to have a life filled with His abundant blessings and it is only possible when the living water could flow from our lives.

Jesus said to the Samaritan woman, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." (John 4:10 ) And further Jesus said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:13-14 )

Yes, it is His will to give us a life full of blessings and finally eternal life. If you think that, you have not known the living God who is the fountain of living water, come to Him and accept Him as your Lord and Savior. He will give you eternal life. If you are living a miserable life, a life where there is no blessings, turn to Jesus, He will give you a new life.

God who takes a handful of people and turns them into a nation

By Vinod Isaac

Jacob who is also known as Israel had 12 sons and Jacob loved one son named Joseph more than all his other sons. Joseph's brothers envied him because their father gave more attention to Joseph. They threw Joseph in an empty pit and then they sold him to the Ishmaelite. Jacob was informed that his son is dead. Jacob mourned for his son for years.

While he was still mourning for his son there came a widespread famine in that land. Jacob and his family were short on grains. Going through such hardship a person can always start blaming God for all the trouble. We do not know what Jacob did in all these years. Bible is silent on that. Jacob heard God's voice before and after but during this time of trouble we don't know if he ever heard God's voice.

Suppose if God had told him "Jacob, listen your son is alive and one day you are going to be united with him" would it have been easy for him to believe? Would he not have said "God I have seen my son's tunic torn and full of blood with my own eyes. He is dead that's for sure. I will never see him again in this earth".

He was so convinced that Joseph is dead. He keeps on lamenting about it. And his grief and frustration is clearly seen in Gen 42:36. He is a man surrounded by calamity. Not created by facts but by the deception and lies of his own sons.

Gen 42:36 And Jacob their father said to them, "You have bereaved me: Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin. All these things are against me."

There is a fierce argument going on. Grain is very scanty if they could not get further supply of grain they will die. if Jacob sends Benjamin and some thing happens to him Jacob will die in sorrow. Judah steps in and becomes a surety for his brother.

Gen 43:8 Then Judah said to Israel his father, "Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones.
Gen 43:9 "I myself will be surety for him; from my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.

When the eleven sons of Jacob were in Egypt things did go wrong. When Joseph refused to let Benjamin go, Judah pleaded and was even ready to become a ransom for his step brother Benjamin. He was even ready to take the form of a slave so that Benjamin could be redeemed.

Gen 44:32 "For your servant became surety for the lad to my father, saying, 'If I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father forever.'
Gen 44:33 "Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.
Gen 44:34 "For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would come upon my father?"

Jesus who came in the lineage of Judah did exactly the same thing for you and me. For Phil 2:7-8 says that he humbled himself of no reputation and took the form of a bondservant in other words the form of a slave and became obedient even to the point of death. So that you and I could be redeemed from the sin and eternal death by believing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and turning to him.

Phil 2:7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
Phil 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

All of a sudden one day Jacob gets the news that Joseph is alive and he is the Governor of Egypt. He couldn't believe it and his sons had to convince him that Joseph is alive. If many of us were in the place of Jacob we would not have wasted a single minute and would have run to see Joseph. After all Joseph was now the Governor of Egypt so why Jacob had to worry about God? But Jacob stopped by at Beersheba and offered sacrifice to the God of Abraham and Isaac.

Gen 46:1 So Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

May be he realized that if he had constant communication with God he would have known that Joseph was still alive and he didn't have to go through all the grief he went through. May be he remembered the God who protected him so far. May be he wanted to give thanks or may be he wanted to ask for protection on his way to Egypt. We don't know. But one thing is clear that calamities could not separate him from God.

And in Beersheba when he sacrificed to God he heard His voice. May be he was hearing that sweet voice after a long long time. God said to him that he is going to Egypt and God is going to make him a great nation.

Gen 46:2 Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, "Jacob, Jacob!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 46:3 So He said, "I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great nation there.
Gen 46:4 "I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand on your eyes."

Years back God had promised the same thing to Abraham, the grand father of Jacob, that his descendants will go to a land that is not theirs and will be there for 400 years.

Gen 15:13 Then He said to Abram: "Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
Gen 15:14 "And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions.

People might have forgotten, Jacob might have forgotten about it but God didn't. Before all of this we see that when Jacob was coming back from his uncle Laban's place and as he was afraid of his brother Esau, he prayed the whole night for protection and at that Time God had given him his new name 'Israel'. God had planned before hand that Jacob is the right person to fulfill the promise he made to Abraham. And by naming him 'Israel' God declared to Jacob, "one day I am going to make you a nation."

God is telling Jacob in very clear terms that, "Jacob, I have called you with a calling, I have raised you up with a purpose. This is the purpose that you turn into a Nation. So that a redeemer could come out of your lineage."

God took a total of 70 people to go to Egypt. He placed them in a strategic location, turned them into a Nation and brought them back. It was more than 2.4 million people who marched back from Egypt. Every thing became possible because Abraham heard God's call and Abraham, Isaac and Jacob obeyed his call.

When God declared to Abraham he could not comprehend the greatness of God. When God said to Isaac and Jacob, they could not dream even in their wildest dreams that such a thing was possible. When God called Moses he didn't think that it was possible. You may be thinking the same way. Is it possible that God can use me a person like me who is worth nothing? I am a person with no ability. Can God do great things through me? Yes he can. The only requirment is that you hear His calling. You need to be sure that for what purpose He has called you.

You also need to make sure that you do not waver in your calling hearing the opinion of different people. I have seen many people who hear one sermon and say, "guess what, I think God called me for such and such purpose." They go to another preacher and hear another message and say, "I think my calling was not the one that I was thinking. May be my calling is this new one. This preacher sounds better." I am sorry God doesn't call a person like that. If you spend time in His presence He will clearly reveal what He wants from your life. Once He has revealed stick to that calling don't waver.

Jacob didn't change his calling by seeing that his son Joseph was no more and when he was going through famine. He didn't change his calling even after he saw that Benjamin had to go to Egypt. Problems may come, trials may come but don't run from your calling seeing the circumstances. Storms may rage and winds may blow yet stick where God wants you to be and be faithful to Him. And He will take you and make a Nation out of you. That Nation can be a team of missionaries, can be a team of people who will shake the world and can be anything.

Persecution in India - Please Pray!

I have received reports from many Christians that there are wide spread persecution going on in India, specially in parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Many believer's homes were burnt down, they were beaten down and many got frightened and left their homes. One brother wrote that three believers from his ministry were killed and several are missing. It is very serious and tragic situation in India.

Let us pray for Christians who are going through such terrible times. Let us kneel down and ask for divine intervention of God in this matter.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
