Naomi said in Ruth 1:20, "Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me."

Naomi talks about her desperate condition in which she was. She had lost her husband and two sons. Three deaths in her family made her to say like this. She and her family went to live in Moab when there was famine in Bethlehem. When they were living in Moab, Naomi's husband died. She lived with her two sons. Both got married and they lived for about ten more years in that land. Meanwhile both of her sons died. Now old Naomi and her two daughters-in-law were left in that land. There hearts were broken and they had no idea what to do in that situation. But Naomi heard the news about her homeland that God had blessed her land and that there was bread to eat.

So she thought of returning to Bethlehem with her two daughters-in-law. Even on her way back she shares her desperation and heart breaks with her daughters-in-law. She pleads with them that they should return to their own people and their gods and get married and live happily. She told them that she was too old to have a husband and there was no use following her as she was unable to help her regarding their future or in their re-marriage. According to the custom of Israelites, if husband died then the widow should marry husband's brother but for Orpah and Ruth there was no hope as their husbands had no brother. Three women whose future had been shut on their faces. There was no hope for them.

But I want to tell you that there is a God who can change your life's bitterness into sweetness just as He did for Naomi and Ruth her daughter-in-law. The same God who filled the hearts of Naomi and Ruth with joy and blessings will do the same for you. Ruth and Naomi returned to Bethlehem not knowing what is laid in their future and without any hope for a better future. But when they returned, there was surprise for them from God. Ruth could be married to Boaz the wealthy man in town and later on David and Jesus came through their lineage.

How many times do we go through similar situations when we come across "no hope". When you lose your loved ones it makes you desperate. When you lose your money and business, when you lose your job it makes you bitter. The bitterness of life makes you desperate.

On the cruel cross of Calvary Jesus tasted much more bitterness than what we face in our day today life. When He was on the cross, "they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink" (Mat 27:34). He took the bitterness of our sins, bitterness of our life on the cruel cross so that we could enjoy His peace, joy and happiness in our lives. Are you shedding bitter tears today? You need not to, because Jesus has already taken our bitterness on the cross on our behalf and gave His life for us. Look to Him. He can turn your sorrows into joy and mourning into dancing as psalmist says in Psa 30:11, "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness."

God's Love is better than wine

By Sherly Isaac

Bible says in Song 1:2, "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; For your love is better than wine."

From Genesis to Revelation we can read about the love of God - His great love for mankind. When Adam and Eve sinned against God, they lost all the blessings God gave them. The human sufferings and excruciating pain which we see today is the result of their mistake.

A few weeks back one sister wrote to us and shared her heartbreaking story with us. She said, "I and my husband lived together for 18 years. Two days back he disappeared without a word. Then I got an email from him saying, 'I met a nice girl on internet and have married her... I am not returning home...'" She wrote further that, "He was my life, I do not know what to do now? I and my children are completely devastated."

Today many people are in the same state of pain and devastation. Many do not know where to turn to and what to do. When these types of things happen, people turn toward false comfort like wine so that they could forget their pain and sorrow. Many have destroyed their lives in drugs and alcohol. These things may give relief for a short time but it is not a permanent solution of your problems. Instead it will push you into more misery and pain. But there is a solution for your problems which is the permanent solution as written in the Bible as we read in Song 1:2 that, "His love is better than wine."

God's love allows a person to forget his/her sorrows and pain and rejoice in the midst of heartbreaks and terrible problems. The love of God makes a person to forget all his/her past and removes worry of future. You can lean on Him and sleep like a small baby who sleeps in the arms of his mother without worry or without fear.

How a person could get that love which could make them to forget their pain and sorrow?

1. Be a Member of His family:
John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

When a person accepts Jesus as his Lord and Savior, He gives them the right to become children of God and being in His family he is entitled to receive all His blessings, His Love, His peace, His joy and whatever He has. Bible says in Mat 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Being in His family makes you eligible to enjoy His blessings.

2. Trusting in Him:
Just as a child trusts his parents, when we trust in God He gives His peace that the world cannot give. We read in Isa 26:3, "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You."

Today you may be going through excruciating pain and unspeakable sorrow. You may be facing a situation that may be completely impossible for you and may be you are losing your heart. But look to Jesus, He can help you. He can give you peace and remove your sorrows and pain from your life. He can wipe away your tears.

Reader's Mail

Dear friends, brothers and sisters in Jesus,
I have been subscribed to this Newsletter for more than one year and it has always being a part of my usual reading about the gospel abroad. I am Brazilian and have being in India in January for the first time. I wish I could have gone to any congregation or meet some people of God there. Bud had no time for that. I could clearly see that India is my life and maybe it is my call from the Lord. I wish CSI talked more about missions and local churches in Delhi, Mumbai and so on.

I saw some very interesting issues about the persecuted church there... but surely it is not enough for someone who wants to pray and do something for that country and all those ones who needs a personal meeting with Jesus through the Gospel.

Thanks for all you have written from heaven and specially for "God's Plan that does not make sense at times" by Vinod Isaac". It talked straight to my heart and life. Thanks a lot, may God bless you all and shine in your lives!
Sister Antonia

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
