Prov 3:9-10, "Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine."Psalmist also says in Psa 144:11-15, Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood; That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, Sculptured in palace style; that our barns may be full, Supplying all kinds of produce; That our sheep may bring forth thousands And ten thousands in our fields; That our oxen may be well-laden; That there be no breaking in or going out; That there be no outcry in our streets. Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!"Psalmist pleads with God that he should be delivered from evil people who speak lies and spread wrong words about him so that God's blessings may come upon him and make him prosper in all his ways so that his barns may be full, supplying all kinds of produce and livestock and blessing and find peace when he goes out in the streets. These are the blessings which everyone wants and longs for in his or her life. God of the Bible promised to give these blessings in the lives of people who walk in His holy ways. When God brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, He promised to give them blessings overflowing as we read, "Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you" (Deu 8:6-10). Today also God wants to bless our lives and to make us prosperous. He wants to fill our barns with overflowing produce. He wants to fill us with His goodness and plenty out of our hard labor. Not only God wants to bless our lives but He also wants to bless those who come in our contact. Bible tells us that those who walked in the ways of God, God blessed them and made them a blessing for others. A few names of those who were blessed are Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and David. When Jacob went to Laban's house, he had nothing to give. He was empty handed and had nothing with him but whatever he touched, God blessed it and prospered it. Jacob says to Laban in Gen 30:29-30, "You know how I have served you and how your livestock has been with me. For what you had before I came was little, and it has increased to a great amount; the LORD has blessed you since my coming. And now, when shall I also provide for my own house?"Once I read a true story about a young boy who belonged to a very poor family and because he had no money he could not go to school. Instead he went to work in a small grocery shop. He and his parents were devote Christians. They walked in the ways of God. The shop owner was very much pleased with the work of that boy who always greeted his customers with smile and spoke nicely to them. The boy was always happy, rejoicing in the Lord. When there was no customer to attend to he would read his Bible. Days passed by and the owner of shop noticed that when the boy came to work in his shop there was not much sales but within weeks sales started increasing. Shop owner had to purchase a new big shop. He realized that there was something unique in that boy which made this difference in his business. Out of curiosity he asked the reason and the boy told him about Jesus and then the shop owner accepted Jesus.But those who do not walk in the ways of God will not see goodness and blessings of God. Bible says in Deu 29:20, "The LORD would not spare him; for then the anger of the LORD and His jealousy would burn against that man, and every curse that is written in this book would settle on him, and the LORD would blot out his name from under heaven." God has put blessings and curses both before you. It is up to you to choose either blessings or curses. It is up to you to choose either prosperity or poverty, misery, pain, sorrow. May God help you to choose His blessings and prosperity.
We often hear it when New Year comes. Preacher says, “take new Resolution (firm determination) for this year, that you will quit such and such things.” In India there was a man who was practicing Jainism (Jain religion). Jain people do not eat Onion, carrot, Potato etc., because they consider it as defiled vegetables as it is formed from the root of a plant and it can be obtained only from under the soil. This man liked potatoes very much. He once took the resolution that he is not going to eat potatoes anymore. He decided that he would leave the things one at a time, which he liked very much and thus he would please his god or bring his body into subjection. Well in the same way many take resolutions in their lives. Many think of leaving smoking and drinking habits, many think to live a good life, many think of changing some bad habit and so on. Question is, is it possible to keep up these resolutions? Is it practical? No, I never heard of anybody who has been successful in keeping such resolutions. I still remember taking such resolutions in my childhood but never could keep them. None not even a single one!!! Why? It is totally impossible for a human being to change their life by their own ability, effort or own good works. We cannot change ourselves with our strong determination, strong will power, or holy practices. Because our fight is not against flesh and blood but our fight is against demons and powers of darkness. Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Eph 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” We fight against devil to lead a holy life and our human efforts do not yield any result. Because we are so weak to wrestle against satan and to win the battle. That is the only reason why Jesus came down into this world to fight our battle on behalf of us and give us victory. Only through the shed blood of Jesus can we achieve victory. Only through repentance and salvation can we achieve freedom in our lives. Jesus Himself took our sins upon Him and climbed on the tree (cross). He took our place because we are very weak to win the battle. He took the ultimate penalty for our sin and died on the cross. He bled and died. His blood flowed for our sins. He shed His last drop of blood for your and mine redemption. Yes my friend, Resolution or strong determination does not change anybody but Salvation does. You may ask how?I was a very angry person. I believe that I inherited such a horrible anger from my mom. I remember in my childhood that my mom used to yell at us (I, my brother and sister) from morning to evening till we go to bed. My mom used to yell in the top of her voice and it sounded like a loud speaker being kept on my head. It made me so mad and rebellious that I decided not to hear any instruction whatsoever she gives. So whatever she said to do I never did but did the opposite of it just to make her annoying so that she can yell more. If she said one word I replied back with two or three words and our life was miserable. Many times I took the resolution that I am going to behave well and stay calm, but it never worked out. There was not a single day when I felt peace in my home. Well, resolutions do not work and it is a totally wrong teaching anybody could ever give. My life never changed till I found Christ. It was 3rd Nov 1981 when Jesus came into my heart and I got saved. From the day when Jesus came into my life, things began to change. Within a week I saw a great change in my life. I stopped reading novels, stopped hearing filthy movie songs, I started reading Christian books and to my surprise when I looked back I wondered that I did not quarrel with anybody from the last one week. Yes, Salvation does it for us. We cannot change ourselves by our own efforts but Salvation changes us. When Jesus the prince of peace comes to reside in our heart things start changing. Slowly the holiness, righteousness, meekness and various good things start filling our soul. Yes that is what Salvation does in our life. I don’t claim that after this experience everything changed instantaneously no, but this change was gradual and visible. Slowly things started changing and I noticed that I did not quarrel for 1 week then 2 weeks then 1 month then 2 months etc. Now after more than 20 years of my walk with Jesus when I look back it astonishes me how Jesus has changed my life. Jesus has changed me and my family this much that even arguments do not exist. I do not remember when I last made any argument with my family; I do not remember when my mom yelled at me last time. Our home became a peaceful place to live. All these things happened not because of Resolution or Strong determination but because of JESUS. If you want to see joy, happiness, holiness and peace in your life, the only way is to find the very source of it i.e. Jesus. Jesus is the source of all the joy and happiness. When Jesus comes to dwell in your heart all these things automatically comes. In North India it is a custom that when you visit somebody’s house you take some gift, sweets with you. Most of the time you do not visit them empty-handed. In The same way when Jesus comes inside of you to live with you, He does not come empty handed but brings with Him all the fountain of joy, peace, happiness, holiness etc., which are naturally found in Him, and so these things automatically comes with Him. You do not change yourself but Jesus makes you to change, you do not quit bad things, bad habits, sin but it leaves you one by one because of the most holy God (Jesus) who has come to reside within you. What a glorious thing to accept Christ as our Lord and Savior. The day Jesus comes satan runs away from your life. When Jesus comes, darkness and sin departs, when Jesus comes worry, anxiety, depression leaves. Even in the midst of trials, tribulation and tears you stay calm because the one who calmed down the roaring sea and said, “be still” has come to reside with you.If you are a saved person your life itself should reflect it. A good tree brings forth good fruit and you know a tree from its fruits. The same way if you are a saved person your life itself would show that you are a born again believer. If it is not showing then something is wrong with you. Either you are not saved or you are still living in the mud hole in the company of pigs. 1 Pet 4:3, “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles; when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.” 1 Pet 4:4, “In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.” 1 Pet 4:5, “They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
