Streets, houses, shops and trees are beautifully decorated with lights, markets are full of shoppers. Santa is up in stores and Nativity scenes are in front of churches or homes. All these indicate that Christmas is very near. Oh, This is the wonderful time of year that reminds us of the great Love of our God who did not even spare His only Son from coming to this world and being born as a human being.

If we study the life of Jesus, we can understand that He was not born in a wealthy family. He had no place to lay his head. Though He is the maker and creator of the world He became poor for you and for me. He was mocked very often, He was spitted on his face, He was beaten and finally He died the most horrific death. Why? I do not see any other reason than the Love that He has for the human beings. Bible says in Rom 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

May be it is because He created everything just by saying His word except for man. He took special effort to create man and woman. He gave His time, He put His energy and created man in His own image and in His likeness. But when Adam and Eve sinned against God, that original image in which they were created was lost. We read in Gen 5:3, "And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth."

In the above verse we read that first God created Adam and Eve in His own image and in His own likeness but now the son born to Adam was in the very image and very likeness of Adam. Means that the original image in which He made man was lost or corrupted and now Adam's corrupted image and likeness is copied in his son. Today we have that corrupted human being's copy with us and that is the reason why we see so much chaos, sin, turmoil, murder, violence and all kinds of nonsense in this world.

But Jesus came in this world to save us from our sins and to correct the corrupted copy of our image and likeness and to recreate it as it was before. The very essence of Christmas is to save the corrupted souls and bring them back to God. He came in this world to seek and save that was lost. He came to give the gift of life, the eternal life.

My dear friend, no matter in what religion you are born, no matter how big or small you may be but you are nothing more than a corrupted copy of Adam and Eve. But today I have a good news for you. Jesus can correct your image and likeness that is corrupted. By accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior you can have this new life. In this Christmas season, you may want to ask the creator and maker to come and dwell in you and change your life.

The Evilness of Heart

By Sherly Isaac

Once I read a true story. There was a girl in India whose marriage was fixed. Two days prior to her wedding, bridegroom's sister and two other relatives came to her house and demanded to see the back of the bride. The bridegroom's family got the information that the bride had some white leprous spots on her back. So they wanted to check with the bride. But actually those spots were not leprous but were just scars of burn injury. The family members of bride where puzzled because this was not known to others except few family members and close friends. They felt the demand very insulting as the house was filled with guests and relatives, they refused to show bride's back.

Bridegroom's family left without a word and canceled the marriage. The bridegroom married another girl but two years later his wife died. Here the word spread quickly about the rejected bride that she had spots in her back and so no one was ready to marry her. Years passed by and about six years later when the bridegroom heard that the girl was not yet married, his family sent proposal for marriage a second time. The family of bride went through a lot in those six years and their hopes had faded away for finding a nice man and so they agreed for marriage.

Marriage took place and bride came to the house of her husband. Her mother-in-law and other family members took care of her with compassion and love. They never mentioned about her white spots. One day there were no one in the house. So the new bride thought to clean up the house and rearrange it. She pulled out cloths from trunks and started rearranging everything one by one. When she reached the room of her mother-in-law and opened the trunk belonging to her and started to rearrange the trunk, one envelop fell to the ground. She stooped down and hold the envelop in her hand, it really surprised her when she saw the very familiar handwriting on the envelop. Out of curiosity she opened the envelop and found a little piece of paper in which it was written, "the bride has leprous white scars on her back." She felt dizzy and sat there in astonishment thinking, "how in the world would she ever do this to me and why, when she is so close to my heart?... What gain she had with this note?..." The more she thought, the more her heart sank. There were no signature, but the handwriting was familiar enough to give her complete clue as to who wrote this little note. The person was none other than her own sister-in-law who wrote this letter. Since seven years back when her sister-in-law came in her house after marriage, she became her best friend but now what she saw made her cry thinking, how she cheated and deceived her. The six years of pain and tears flashed before her eyes, just because of this little note. Oh, the evilness of heart!

A few years back there was a famous chicken grill restaurant in Delhi, India. One night after midnight, someone noticed heavy smoke coming out of the grill restaurant chimney. He called police and when police arrived at the hotel, they discovered the gruesome burning of human body parts. The owner had burned his own wife over the grill after cutting her in pieces. When the news spread, people could not believe how anybody could ever do this type of act. But this is the tragic reality of the evilness of heart.

Last week we heard about the poisoning of the Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko. Oh, the evilness of heart.

When the former Indian prime ministers Mrs. Indira Gandhi and her son Mr. Rajiv Gandhi were assassinated in two separate incidents everybody said, why anybody need to kill a prime minister in a democratic country where people choose there leader every five years. But oh, the evilness of heart.

Many of you may condemn the evil "head choppers" in Iraq but have you ever thought of having these types of people around you, among you, in your neighborhood, in your community and even in your Churches. You may never know how much evilness is hiding behind those smiling and beautiful faces. And the greatest tragedy is that these people think that they are going to heaven because they are in the Church. When Jesus condemn these types of people saying, "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.( John 8:44 )", they got angry and they did not like it.

Jesus openly declared in the above verse that every person is a sinner and is a "child of devil". Whatever they do, it is not because of their own but because they are fulfilling the desires of their father - the devil. No matter how harsh it may sound but Jesus called them, "children of devil" and every person stays in the same state till they become the "children of God". Bible says in John 1:12-13, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." That is the reason why Jesus spoke to the Jewish ruler in John 3rd chapter and said, "You must be born again."

God was so much fed up with the abominations of people that He said in Ezek 44:6-7, "Now say to the rebellious, to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: "O house of Israel, let us have no more of all your abominations. When you brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to defile it; My house; and when you offered My food, the fat and the blood, then they broke My covenant because of all your abominations."

Can you believe that? A foreigner and uncircumcised in heart should not be allowed in the holy temple of God because it defiles the holy temple. After all who is the foreigner and who is the uncircumcised in heart? An outsider who does not know the God of the Bible, who never became a child of God as written in John 1:12, who never got forgiveness of his/her sins and has no relationship with God is an outsider and uncircumcised in heart. Bible is very clear that these types of people must not enter into the holy sanctuary, but unfortunately churches are full of them.

Are you saved? Do you know God personally? Have you ever accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If your answer is "no" it means you are also a "child of devil" and you need the "born again" experience so that you could become a "child of God". Come to Jesus and become a child of God and He will remove all the evilness of your heart and make you a new creation. He will make you holy and spotless.

Spiritual Journey

By Sheela Isaac

Well, we hear many things about Christian life. Many theories are being told about spiritual life but today we are going to see the practical processes of spiritual journey which means, how spiritual journey begins and how it could be developed in the real sense according to the Bible.

Spiritual beginning:
Before we think about spiritual life, it is quite important to know when the spiritual life does begin. Does it begin from birth? Does it begin because you are already in a Christian home? No, Bible clearly states, "all are sinners." No one is good on the face of the earth none is holy. If you read Rom 3:10, "As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; Rom 3:12, "They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one." Rom 3:13, "Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit"; "The poison of asps is under their lips"; Rom 3:14, "Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness." Rom 3:15, "Their feet are swift to shed blood;" Rom 3:18, "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Nobody is righteous in the sight of God. According to the Bible all are sinners and un-repented sinners cannot enter into heaven. It is impossible because our sin separates us from holy God. Micah 3:4, "Then they will cry to the LORD, But He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, Because they have been evil in their deeds.” Isa 59:2, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." Isa 64:7, "And there is no one who calls on Your name, Who stirs himself up to take hold of You; For You have hidden Your face from us, And have consumed us because of our iniquities."

What is sin? Next verse says, speaking lies, killing, ignoring God and God’s commands, not following His ways (the Bible) and many such things are sin. Bible says that because of our wicked deeds God hides His face. So how can you think that a defiled and sinful person can enter into heaven, the holy dwelling place of God? But there is a way out. Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins. He shed His precious blood and made atonement for us. Through the shed blood of Jesus we can enter into heaven. How? By applying Jesus’ holy and spotless blood on our hearts doorpost we can earn free entry or pass for heaven, Wow, Isn’t it amazing? Yes it is amazing, but wait a minute, the cleansing process does not happen automatically as many say. There are no automatic systems in God’s kingdom. He does not put His seal deliberately on an unwilling person. He is a gentle God. That is why He says, Rev 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." He stands at the door of every heart and knocks but He does not push the door in and enter with force. No, He says, "If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him." It means that you’ve to ask for forgiveness, you’ve to accept Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior, you’ve to open the heart’s door and invite Him. Then only He’ll come in. For that you’ll need a simple prayer of Salvation or sinner’s prayer.

Jesus said to Nicodemus, John 3:3, "Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Jesus is speaking the same thing here. Without the born again or salvation experience you cannot see heaven. Nicodemus asks again what’s that? How can it be possible? Jesus replies to him in John 3:5, "Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Here Jesus is speaking about spiritual birth. It means that once you’ve taken physical birth in this world and became a human being, if you want to enter heaven you need spiritual birth. Your spirit needs another birth i.e. born-again experience. Why? Because when a person takes birth in this earth his/her body is alive but spirit is in a dead state. Don’t get surprised. That’s what Bible says. God created Adam and Eve in a perfect state, but when they disobeyed God and ate the fruit of the forbidden tree they became dead not physically but spiritually. Their spirit died due to sin. Gen 3:3, "but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'" The same death is following the human beings from the ages. That is why David says in, Psa 51:5, "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me."

When we are born in this world our spirit man is dead in sin. That is why Jesus said to Nicodemus birth in spirit is necessary to enter heaven. John 3:5, Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." John 3:6 "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Only birth in spirit or born again (salvation) experience could revive the dead spirit. There are no alternative methods for it. If the dead spirit does not revive in your lifetime, then there are no options but hell will be waiting for you. To understand it let’s see some more things. Human being is made up of three parts. 1. Body 2. Soul (Mind) 3. Spirit. I heard many messages on this subject but recently I had the privilege to hear a profound message on TV on this topic. It really fascinated me. I would like to use some of the points of that sermon in this message.

1. Body:
What is human body? It is not the real you or me but the house or just an outer covering of the real human. It is called flesh and according to the Bible it always seeks sin and desires sinful pleasures of this world. What you eat and drink in this world is just to strengthen your body not spirit. Body needs food as well as spirit too. Rom 6:12, "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts." Rom 8:12, "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors; not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh." Rom 8:13, "For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."

Body is just an outer covering and it is made up of dust and at death dust returns to dust and Spirit and Soul returns to God who gave them.

2. Soul (Mind):
This is the second important part of the human life. It has intellect, emotion, will, desire, thinking power etc. So Soul is the source of all our desires, emotions, and activities. Either Body or Spirit could control the Soul. It is always controlled by the stronger part of your life, that is, if body is stronger it will be controlled by body (fleshly desires) or if Spirit is stronger it would be controlled by spirit (holiness, godliness).

Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1:29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, Rom 1:30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Rom 1:31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; Rom 1:32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

The above verse clears that when you ignore God and do not want to walk in the holy ways of God, the flesh takes control of your mind and it becomes corrupted or debased and it follows fleshly desires of body. Here body is controlling the Soul (Mind) because God does not exist in such heart.

3. Spirit:
This is the most important part of human being. Your spirit is none other than the real you and it lives in a house called body and it has a Soul (Mind). Well, as we saw earlier, every human being’s spirit is dead at birth because of sin, and unless or until you repent and get saved it would stay dead. Unless or until the intervention of Jesus and Holy Spirit comes in your spirit and unless or until a spiritual birth takes place it would continue to live in a dead state. So dead spirit cannot have control over Soul (Mind). So at this state your body is the sole leader over your Soul (Mind). Whatever body desires Soul obeys and it’s desire and emotions stay towards body. As Bible says, body is the most corrupt part of the human being and it’s desire is always toward evil. That is why your body constantly shows sinful behavior and is always inclined toward sin and sinful pleasures.

Spiritual Growth:
Alright, what happened at spiritual birth?
First through Salvation the dead spirit of human being revives. It is called born again or new birth experience. Only at this point the spiritual journey begins. Till this time a person stays spiritually dead and so he/she has no contact or relationship with God. Till salvation a person has no part in or membership in God’s family. So whatever you do before salvation does not have any impact or meaning before God and God does not delight in it. So at salvation the real spiritual journey begins. Ok, so if you got saved at the age of twenty your body (old man) will be twenty years old but your Spirit (New man, inner man) will be just an one day old infant. Now you have a relationship with God (Jesus) and your spirit is alive and it is the time where your spirit begins to grow and develop. Please remember that spiritual birth is an instantaneous occurrence and not a process. The day you cry out before God and say I am sorry for my sin, the day you go through real repentance that day you’ll get saved, but after salvation spiritual growth is a process. Rom 6:6, "knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." Rom 6:7, "For he who has died has been freed from sin."

How are you going to grow and develop the newborn Spirit (the inner man)?

At this point your spirit needs spiritual food to grow. By feeding the word of God (Bible) constantly and by Praying, you can develop it. The more you spend time at the feet of Jesus in prayer, in Bible reading, in following the Bible and correcting your life daily will help you to grow in the Lord. The day you get saved the real struggle begins because on the one side your Spirit (the infant) is there and on the other side body (the old man 20yr old) is there and in between these two your Soul (Mind) is working. Now who will the Soul obey and follow? Definitely it will follow the body (old man) because it is much stronger than your newborn Spirit (the infant). So it’s desire would be always to tilt toward the strongest part of your life, that is body. After salvation your Spirit (the infant) would say to your Soul to worship God, to walk in holiness, and instructs, "do not speak lies, do not watch filthy movies, do not cheat." But on the other side your body (the old man) would say to your Soul (Mind) little sin is ok, no one is perfect and so it is totally impossible to live a holy life. Little pleasure is ok. What if you look at just one movie? It won’t hurt you because you are already a child of God. What if you just smoke one cigarette, what if you just tell one lie to hide your point, what if you take a little alcohol and on….and on…and on. And your Soul will follow the instruction of the stronger one (body). Well at the early stages of your born again life you would see that you are being easily led to slipping and falling. But as you develop your Spirit (the infant) it would grow and become stronger. The more you’ll feed spiritual food to your Spirit the more it becomes stronger and the more you’ll be able to lead a holy life. That is the secret of a victorious Christian life. That is why Bible says, crucify your body so that you may not follow it’s desires. That is why after salvation you need daily Bible reading and Prayer. Not only that but you need a desire to correct your life daily and stay away from the sins described in Bible.

Rom 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Rom 12:2, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
