Last week another tragedy struck in western India where about 258 people died in a stampede which took place in a temple. India was jolted because of tragedies, but more than that, there are cultural issues that makes it more sad. When four weeks back Tsunami hit in India the most affected area was Nagapattinam where Dalits were treated very badly. In the website of Indian express, there was an article titled, "Tsunami can’t wash this away: hatred for Dalits" In this article they outlined the tragic reality of caste system in India that separates high caste and low caste people from each other.

In this article Janyala Sreenivas writes, "Murugeshan and his family of four have been living on the streets in Nambiarnagar. That’s why like 31 other families, they have been thrown out of relief camps. That’s why they are hounded out of schools they have sneaked into, they are pushed to the rear of food and water lines, given leftovers, not allowed to use toilets or even to avail drink water provided by a UN agency. That’s why some NGOs are setting up separate facilities for them. Because they are all Dalits." And further it says, "In the GVR Marriage Hall Relief Camp, Dalits cannot drink water from tanks put up by UNICEF. The Meenavars say they ‘‘pollute’’ the water...."

No one can imagine these types of things happening even when India has celebrated its 56th Republic Day on 26th Jan 2005. It is beyond imagination how anybody could ever do this to others when they have been already struck with such a great tragedy? How tragic it is! More than half a century back when India celebrated its first independence day everyone might have thought of the emerging new India but in all these years people are still in the same old bondage of caste system where humans do not care about fellow humans.

But there is a God who loves us. When the Israelites were in bondage and when they cried out, God sent Moses to tell them the good news of deliverance as we read in Exo 6:6 "Therefore say to the children of Israel: 'I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments."

Further we read the mighty deliverance of the Israelites by God who stretched out His mighty hand and delivered them from their bitter life with hard bondage and slavery.

Jesus came in this world to take everyone out of their bondage and sin no matter in what caste you belong to. He came in this world to give us peace and joy that this world cannot give. Are you going through tough times in your life today? Are you in bondage and sin. Are you facing tragedies and unending problems in your life? Look to Jesus, He can help you. He can remove bondages from your life and can wipe away your tears. He really cares for you and He really wants to help you. Will you give your life to Jesus today?

To Heal the Brokenhearted

By Sherly Isaac

Isa 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound."

Isaiah declared the motto of the coming Messiah in the above verse and in continuation of it, one of that was "To heal the brokenhearted". If you look around, you can see that world is full of tragedies and tears. Many are brokenhearted and are in unending sorrow. There are many who are so much broken that their hearts are beyond repair.

Once I saw the interview of a family who lost their only son because someone murdered him. The mother and daughter said, "We do not feel like going inside our house anymore because we lost our beloved." They sat outside of their house in wait as if the young man will return one day. If you have lost your loved ones, it is unbearable, it is tragic and it is heartbreaking.

If you see the news, you can see how much violence and tragedies are going on in this world. We who get a glimpse of it on TV are made sad then how much more sad it would make those who are really experiencing it in their own lives. When you see the innocent Iraqis being blown and killed by insurgents, you feel, “will it not end anytime soon?” How many precious lives are being lost everyday. We can only imagine what those Iraqi families are going through.

When a soldier's family hears a knock at the door and when news comes that they have just lost their precious son or daughter in battle, it is not easy to handle. It is heartbreaking and it is tragic.

Jesus went into the synagogue and He read the same portion from the Book of Isaiah and He declared that the scripture had been fulfilled that day as we read in Luke 4:20-21, "Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

When Jesus was in this world and when He saw people in sorrow, in pain, in tears and heartbroken, He was moved with compassion for them and healed them, wiped away their tears and gave them peace that this world cannot give. He is the same as He was yesterday. He is still able to wipe away your tears. Are you going through tears today? Are you having a broken heart? Come to Jesus He will not reject you or despise you as the Bible says in Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise." Psalmist also says in Psa 34:18, "The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit."

God is ready to hear your cry, your hurts and pain. Pour out your heart to Him and He will help you.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
