By Sherly Isaac

Once again we have entered in the lent season which reminds us of the great sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yesterday I attended Ash Wednesday's service in my Church. It wasn't for the first time that I heard about the sufferings of Christ but what I heard yesterday made me to really think how great, how painful and how humiliating was the suffering of Christ. In short the message was that, they chose Jesus to crucify on the cross so that He could die a slow and the most painful death. It was the death in which a person helplessly hangs on two pieces of beam and when he is weak, birds of the air could come and eat the eyes and flesh of the victim. It is the most horrible thing which could ever happen to anybody.

But think about it, on the cross where we had to be and the punishment we had to go through because of our sins, Jesus took the punishment on Himself by taking our place. He died in our place so that we could live and not die. So that we could not suffer in our lives but live peacefully and happily. Jesus suffered excruciating pain, humiliation, torture and finally death just because He loved us. It was love that made Him to give His precious life to suffer the most horrific and most painful death.

When I was in college, I lived in a hostel. The mess owner had few dogs. One dog got sick and his hairs started falling and its little body was covered with boils, sours, blood and pus. It was horrible to look at that little creature suffering immensely. And the most terrible thing was that life was still in that little body and he was experiencing the pain and suffering everyday, every moment of his life. His ordeal lasted for many months before he died. Very often girls looked at that dog, sighed and said, that's why we are having proverb that, "wicked person will die the death of a dog."

Sufferings, pain and death is a reality. Because our first parents sinned against God all these things came in this world. But there is greater pain, suffering when eternal death awaits you if you have not received the eternal life offered by Jesus Christ. But we have good news that Jesus became curse for us to deliver us from curse. Jesus saw humiliation so that we should not see humiliation. Jesus went through most painful sufferings in his life so that we need not to go through all those sufferings and pain. Jesus gave His life so that we are not to face death. Because of Jesus we can have New Hope in our lives.

Apostle Paul says in Gal 3:13-14, "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

Are you still living in curse? Are you going through shame and guilt because of your sin? Are you facing unending pain and sufferings in your life? Do you want to experience the blessing of Abraham? Come to Jesus, give your life to Him. He will change everything in your life. Please pray this prayer with me:

Lord Jesus, I have sinned against you. I have seen shame, guilt, pain and sorrow in my life. But now I want to come out of all these things. Please come into my life, forgive and forget all my sins. Today I invite you as my Lord and Savior. Please come into my life and fill me with the blessings of Abraham in my life. Thank you for hearing my prayer. I give you all the glory. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Bitterness to Sweetness

By Sherly Isaac

Exo 12:8 'Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.'

This verse speaks about the Passover instruction God gave to Moses when they were about to come out of Egypt. With all the instruction God said to the Israelites, one of them was that they should eat the flesh of sacrificial lamb with bitter herbs.

Bitterness of Life:
The bitter herbs is the reminder of Israelite's bitter and hard life of bondage as we read in Exo 1:14, "And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage; in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor."

The Israelites lived in Egypt where they worked very hard. They were hard laborers in that strange land. Their lives were very bitter because of hardship and bondage they faced in their lives. But when they cried out to God, God heard their cries and came to their rescue. Bible tells us that God in His mercy sent Moses to deliver them and bring them out of Egypt. We also read how miraculously God brought them out of Egypt with His stretched fourth mighty hand.

Yes, there is a God who turns our bitterness of life into sweetness. Today you may be going through so much of bitterness in your life may be because of your sins, may be because of your hard labor, may be because of financial strains, may be because of drugs, violence or death of a loved one. No matter what you are facing, Jesus can remove your bitterness from your heart and turn it to sweetness.

Bitterness of Soul:
When Job went through all the problems in his life, when he lost all his possessions, all his wealth, all his children, his health, even his wife asked him to curse God. But he spoke out and said, "As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter.(Job 27:2)" Bitterness of soul! Naomi was one of the women who lost her husband and two sons who preferred herself to be called bitter. She says in Ruth 1:20, "Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me."

Oh the bitterness of soul. It is not easy to deal with odd and painful situations of your life. But I have a good news for you. There is a God who is interested to turn our bitterness into sweetness. If we read in the lives of Job and Naomi they both came out of their horrible situations and God blessed them and made their surroundings and their days of life sweeter. We read some similarities in the life of Job and Naomi that both were blessed, received what they lost in their lives, their hopes became alive again which were faded away. There is a mighty God out there who can help us in our any bad situations.

Bitterness because of Sickness and Death:
Sickness and death does not bring any good thing in anybody's life. Jesus went through all the bitter experiences of life. He suffered in His flesh and died on the cruel cross. Today, He understands what is suffering, pain, death and tears. He understands when we go through terrible ordeals. He knows what it is to go through insults, physical pain, excruciating human sufferings.

No matter what you are going through today, no matter how bitter your situation may be, come and give your life to Jesus. He will take care of you. He will wipe away your tears. He will turn your bitterness into sweetness.

Praise Him...

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
