For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23)"The wages of sin is death and tragedy not only in a spiritual sense but also in the material world. You can see that those who commit crimes and do wrong things end up in jail or in death row. Many of you may know about the man named Scott Peterson who was convicted for murdering his wife and unborn child at California. In December of the year 2002 Laci Peterson who was eight months pregnant was reported to have disappeared near her home while walking her dog. Later, her husband was convicted and sentenced for death penalty. According to the news, he had affair with another girl and it might have been the reason for the murder of Laci and her unborn child. No matter what might have been the reason, now Scott Peterson is behind bars waiting to be executed. This news was devastating for his family members. Yes, it is tragic but this is the consequence of sin - judgment and death!Many years back India's former Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated sending shock waves through out the whole country. A massive manhunt was in progress and finally police surrounded the house of those who were responsible for assassinating Rajiv Gandhi. A fight broke out and when they realized that police will soon catch them, they killed themselves and died a tragic death. What had they achieved after all? Nothing but their own death and destruction. This is the consequence of sin - a tragic end. Bible says loud and clear that wages of sin is death. Bible also tells us in Rom 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.." But there is one who is sinless and who took our sins on Himself and died on behalf of us. His name is Jesus. Jesus came in this world to save sinners. Though He was sinless yet He took the form of man and came in this world to die for us. He paid the price for our redemption on the cross so that we could live a holy life. Romans 6:23 says, "but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."Today we have an option to choose either to live in sin and face death and punishment of God or to repent from our sins, turn to God and have life eternal. What would be your choice?
Today our mainline churches have failed to raise godly and righteous people. No wonder that churches are falling behind in setting moral and spiritual values high. Recently I was hearing a TV news which shocked the whole US. The serial killer called BTK “Bind, Torture and Kill” was arrested. News said that he created havoc around 1970’s by killing 8 people mostly women between 1974-1986 and again two more killings between 1985-1991. Now after 25 years of silence he resurfaced with taunting letters to police and media. You may be surprised to know that he was an active member and also council president of the Lutheran Church. It shows that he was very active in church activities. But the real surprise is that nobody ever knew or had any kind of doubt in their mind that this man who was actively involved in church activities is a serial killer. He was caught by DNA test and a hidden electronic code from the floppy disk of his church office which he was using. Again this incidence shows that mainline churches have such hard core criminals. Their life is not transforming. Church’s main duty is to raise godly people and to turn criminals and sinners to holy and godly beings. But church has failed miserably in her duties. The question is, ‘why such people are not turning towards God or towards holiness?’ There are many reasons for it. 1. Church has failed to appoint godly Priests and Pastors. No wonder most of the church pastors whom church appoints do not have salvation and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. So they are not able to preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. When I was in India there was a pastor in one church. The story behind his background says that this pastor was a truck cleaner. One day he killed somebody and to escape from the hands of police and prison he became a pastor of the church. Though he became a pastor his activities and behavior did not change. He was still involved in such activities. What could the congregation expect from such a pastor? The pastor himself not having any moral and spiritual values how he is going to teach others. He cannot preach with conviction asking the congregation not to involve in killing or to do bad things because he himself had been involved in such things. If you are smoking cigarettes you cannot say to your child not to do it. If you are cheating, stealing or killing, you cannot say to others not to do it. A corrupt leader cannot be a role model for others. The same thing we see in Jesus’ time. The Pharisees who were corrupt in many ways opposed the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus said about them, “these are the people who neither enter into heaven nor allow anybody to enter”. Mat 23:3 "Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. Mat 23:4 "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. Mat 23:13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. Jesus also said, “observe whatever they say to you, but do not do according to their works.”Today our mainline churches have failed to transform people and to bring them into righteous ways of God. I am sorry to say that my church did not help me to find Christ. I never heard any pastor explaining about Salvation and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I have also never heard about the importance of leading a holy life. I was lost without Christ though I was raised in the church. It was my cousin Suganthi Johnson who sent me a letter saying,”Sheela if you do not accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior in your life time you’ll never enter into the kingdom of God.” That letter brought me to the saving knowledge of Christ. If on that beautiful day I had not prayed that simple prayer “Jesus save me from hell” I might have lost my soul for eternity without Jesus. You might be a Church goer but you have got to know that this is not enough, that it cannot save you from sin but Jesus can. Turn to Jesus and say, “Lord I want nothing but a place in heaven and I am sure He’ll not say no to you.” 2. Church has failed to teach the word of God: Today our mainline churches do not preach the word of God. Don’t get surprised. That is the reality. What is the word of God? The word which is heard from God or which comes from the very throne of God must be God’s word. How many of our pastors and preachers hear the word from God? I think most of them do not. Most of the time they preach what feedback they get from church members. Many guest speakers visit our church. What do they preach? Just what feedback they get from the church pastor or from church members. Then, why do they call it as God’s word? It is not God’s word but the garbage of somebody’s mind. God’s word does not come by comparing a few books from here and there. It comes only by much prayer and by reading the word of God. If you really want to hear the voice of God you need to spend hours together in prayer. That is the only way to know the heart of God. Unless and until you spend hours together on your knees you can never get the words from God. On top of that if you are not a saved person you can never hear the word of God. It is totally impossible. On one side when you lead a filthy life and then say, ‘God is speaking to me’ is rubbish. God does not speak so easily as you think. The second thing is that God’s word does not go in vain. Peter and Paul preached the Gospel and it did not go in vain. Peter preached his first sermon to more than three thousand people and three thousand were added to the church or transformed or got saved. Today how many are preaching that way. Jesus preached to multitudes. Bible says that crowds thronged around Him. John chapter 6:1-2 says, “John 6:1 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. John 6:2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. John 6:10, “ … So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.” Here Bible says that the number of men were five thousand. So you can imagine that with children and women (since in those days they might have had more than one wife and more than 5-6 children) and this crowd might have been at least 20,000 – 70,000. Jesus and His disciples performed many signs and wonders. How many miracles are taking place in your churches today? Are there any? Jesus did not preach all through His life to the same twenty or fifty people. No He preached to the multitudes. If you are preaching to the same twenty or fifty people all through your life, then something is badly wrong. It means that your church is not growing. It means that the true Gospel is lacking. People do not come to hear some garbage but they want to hear the word of God. People are looking for the words which come from the throne of God which consoles and transforms. If you are not able to preach the word of God, your ministry will stay stagnant. It will never see any growth. Paul did not preach to the same fifty people life long. No, Bible says that he established several churches. Why? They were all filled with Holy Spirit and that is the only reason why they could pull enormous crowd and they could see their ministry growing. Peter and Paul preached and lives were transformed. Think about it. How many of your church members have been transformed? Are they still cheating, lying, killing and doing all kinds of rubbish things. Few days back I was hearing the fascinating message of Rev. Reinhard Bonkee. He is a pastor who begun his ministry with a small beginning but now he is preaching to millions in Africa. His one service pulls millions of people and in one service millions get saved and get transformed. He said a very funny thing about 300 foxes and Samson story. He said that without the anointing of Holy Spirit ministry is useless. You cannot gain anything out of it. You may run all-through your life without the fire of the holy spirit in your life and you could get no harvest. Samson send the 300 foxes with fire in their tails and they destroyed the vineyards of the enemy. At the same time if Samson had forgotten to set the fire on torches nothing could have happened. He said that in the same way today many are running without the anointing of the Holy Spirit (the fire) and they are not able to destroy the works of enemy the works of satan. They are running and running till they get pension and nothing is happening in their ministries. No harvest not a single soul being saved. Judg 15:4 Then Samson went and caught three hundred foxes; and he took torches, turned the foxes tail to tail, and put a torch between each pair of tails. Judg 15:5, “When he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves.” Yes without the power of God working in harvest field of ministry is worthless. Today our mainline churches are not transforming people. The reason is lack of salvation and lack of anointing of the Holy Spirit. The reason is Gospel is being preached but it is not coming from the throne of God. Human intellectual or scholarly words cannot change anybody. Only God’s word which comes from His throne can. Only God’s word can change lives and it is badly lacking in churches. Many are working but churches are still corrupt. Many are running in God’s vineyard without the fire and changing nothing not even a single life. Many are doing God’s work but not a single soul is getting saved. If your ministry is like this you need to rethink about your life and about your ministry. You might be wasting your time and the time of others also. You might be destroying your own life and the life of others too. As Jesus said about the Pharisees, “For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in..”

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
