By Sherly Isaac

Psa 22:4-5, "Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; They trusted in You, and were not ashamed."

David prayed some of the desperate prayers in his life but he knew his Lord. He knew that those who trust in Him will not be ashamed. He knew it because his fathers trusted in Him and were delivered. He himself trusted in the same God when calamities struck in his life, when tragedies, heartbreaks and persecution came in his life. When the enemies raged and came like flood, he trusted in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And he writes his own experience in Psa 18:48, "He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man."

Bible tells us about the God who is the mighty deliverer, who is able to deliver us from any impossible situation. But for those who do not trust in Him, when problems come in their lives they feel confounded and without hope.

A few weeks back at Chicago one evening when the U.S. District Court Judge Joan Lefcow came back home from her work, she found her husband and mother dead in the basement of her house. Police searched for the culprit but had no clue at all. Two weeks later in a routine traffic stop, one man killed himself in his vehicle by shooting himself. Police searched his vehicle and found the note that the man named Burt Ross was the killer of Judge Joan's husband and mother.

He wrote the desperate condition in which he was. First he had mouth cancer and when he took treatment for that, his face was disfigured. He filed law suites against hospital and doctors but his appeal was turned down every time by judges. Even he wrote to the president of United States of America for help but he did not get any help. Meanwhile he lost his job and house. It filled him with bitterness and finally he decided to kill those judges who turned his appeal down.

We see here a man who looked for help towards men and ended up taking the wrong step of killing others and dying a tragic death. If he had trusted in God his story would have been different.

Once Hezekiah was surrounded by his enemies, the king of Assyria and his troop. There was no hope for him. Hezekiah could do nothing in those desperate moments. But he turned his face towards the wall of his palace and prayed to the Lord God Almighty. We can read his prayer in 2 Ki 19:15-19, "Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said: "O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands, and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men's hands; wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD God, You alone."

And God heard his prayer and Bible tells us how God miraculously delivered him and the Israelites from the hands of Assyria.

Are you facing unending problems in your life today? Are you thinking, "who will deliver me from my problems? Who will help me in this time of my dire need?" Look toward the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who says in Isa 43:1-2, "But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you."

God will deliver you so that those problems could not consume you. He will bring you out of those problems victoriously. Jesus said in John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me." Trust in Him, He will help you.

New Pope - How God would select

By Vinod K. Isaac

Within a few days a new pope is going to be elected in Rome. 115 cardinals will vote and select a new pope by two thirds majority of the present cardinals. If God had to select a candidate, how would He select? To look into it, Let us examine how Leaders were selected in the Bible.

When people sinned, God selected Noah, His first spiritual leader to preach and to accomplish the task that He was about to give.

2 Pet 2:5, “and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;”

Gen 6:13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Gen 6:14, "Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.”

Noah's task was to preach, build the ark and try to save the creatures of the world from the coming flood. Here we see that God never took a majority opinion of people, Instead, He just assigned the work to Noah. What if God had taken a majority opinion? Out of the whole population, there were only eight people including Noah who were obedient to God and all the rest were disobedient. So, if majority opinion was taken, probably they would have selected a person who was the worst sinner in the whole world, probably a person who will raise his fist against God and mock God. Would that have served God's purpose? absolutely not.

Let us quickly look at the qualities Noah had possessed.

Noah Had Found Grace

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Bible says in Gen 6:8 that Noah had found grace in the eyes of the Lord. It is essential that a person who wants to serve the Lord must receive grace in the sight of God. Unless a person finds favor in the eyes of God, there is no way God is going to appoint that person for His purposes.

When we read the Bible we find that the people who served, attained to leadership. Some had found favor in the eyes of the Lord and some did not. Those who found favor were greatly exalted by the Lord and those who didn't were brought low.

For example King Saul did not receive favor in the eyes of God for the Bible says that Saul was rejected by God.

1 Sam 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king."
1 Sam 13:14 "But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you."

On the other hand, King David found favor in the eyes of God. 1 Sam 13:14 says clearly that David was a person after God's own heart.

Noah was a Just Man

Gen 6:9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

Bible is describing Noah in Gen 6:9, and says that Noah was not only Just but he was perfect and walked with God. The word "perfect in his generations" has a very significant meaning because the people at that time were corrupt. The whole world was so much corrupt that every single work of theirs provoked God.

Gen 6:11, “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”
Gen 6:12, “So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.”

Gen 6:12 is very clear that all flesh had corrupted their way. In this situation Noah was leading a life of holiness, a life of integrity, a life of walking with God. It Looks to be impossible task isn't it?

If a person has to walk righteously at a time when every single person around him are corrupt, it is not an easy task. But Noah did walk with God. God gave him a certificate that he was righteous.

God never calls a spiritual leader to flow with the corrupt world. Instead, He calls a leader to walk in His ways and accomplish the task that He gives to that particular person. God calls a person to flow according to God's will and purposes. God has a plan and a purpose for each and every person on the planet earth. A person can reach to that plan and purpose only if he/she is willing to walk righteously.

We live in a society that is corrupt. Even many of the churches and church leaders are corrupt. God is constantly looking for people who will walk in His ways in righteousness, in integrity and in holiness.

Noah Had Faith

Heb 11:7, “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.”

Noah had faith and this faith sustained him. This is the faith that separated him from the rest of the whole wide world. It is his faith that helped Noah to be counted as righteous in the sight of God.

Bible says in Heb 11:6 that without faith it is impossible to please God.

Heb 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Most of the time, today's spiritual leaders don't have faith. Instead, they have their scholarly education. They depend on their wisdom and knowledge instead of depending on God. Neither do they put faith in Lord Jesus Christ nor do they allow their church members to put faith in Lord Jesus Christ.

God is looking for people who will have faith and will walk in God's ways.

Noah Was Obedient

Gen 6:22, “Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.”

Noah did; according to ALL that God commanded him. It is very clear that Noah did every single thing that God commanded him to do. When God has a plan and a purpose there is only one way to fulfill that plan and purpose, it is by obedience. For a person to be obedient, it is necessary to hear God's voice.

Time and again we see that all the great leaders God had ever called were obedient. For example:

When God asked Abraham to get out of the country and when he was asked to go to a strange land, he did.

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you.
Gen 12:4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.”

When God asked Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, Bible says that Moses did every thing God commanded him to do.

Exo 40:16, “Thus Moses did; according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did.”

As far as my memory goes I don't recall a single incidence where God would have selected a person by majority vote. God selects according to His will and his fore knowledge. Now when the 115 cardinals will gather together how many of them will really be able to hear God's voice? How many will really be able to find out the perfect person whom God wants to give leadership? It is a question that can't be answered easily when you have all kinds of cardinals, even those who were accused in sexual abuse cases.

Now the question is, "Is there some thing which the ordinary members of Catholic churches around the world can do to influence God's will"? When they don't have political influence what can they do? Answer is that they need to get on to their knees and pray to Lord Jesus to intervene and to give a person who is having qualities of Noah and Abraham and Moses and Daniel and Ezra.

Let me speak to my Catholic friends who are reading this message, your knees have power to shake any political alliances. Your knees have power to bring God of heaven into the picture and to let a righteous person be elected. When the children of Israel cried out God heard their cry and sent Moses.

Exo 3:9 "Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.
Exo 3:10 "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."

If you cry out to God, he will send a righteous leader to lead the Church from glory to glory. Lord is very much interested to see a mighty revival break through in Catholic churches around the world and I believe that the selection of next pope will be a crucial turning point in that direction.
