By Sherly Isaac

Once I heard a story. A family was traveling by car. They reached a place where there was a railroad crossing. As they were crossing, a train came and hit their car. Both the parents died in that accident but their two young children survived with injuries. After funeral there was no place to go for little Johnny and Mary. Their grand parents who lived far away from their place came and took Johnny and Mary with them to their farmhouse. They had a good time in the house of their grandparents. There was a big old goose of grandma with whom they played and ran around in the farmhouse.

One day Johnny said, I will kill this old goose of grandma. Mary said, “no don't do that” but Johnny took a stone and threw at the big old goose. The stone hit on the head of the goose and it fell down fluttered for a moment then died. Johnny dragged that big old goose and buried it in the backyard. In the evening grandma asked Johnny and Mary, "Did you see the goose?" Johnny and Mary went out and looked then came back and said, "No we did not."

After dinner grandma told Mary to clean the table and do the dishes. Mary called Johnny and said, "Johnny clean the table and do the dishes." Johnny said, "this is girl's job and grandma told you to do that, I am not going to do it." Mary said, "what about the goose? If you will not do this, I will tell grandma about the goose" Poor Johnny, did the dishes, cleaned the table without his will. Every night the same routine continued...

One day Mary asked Johnny, "grandpa is going to the town, are you coming?" Johnny said, "I don't have the mood to go." Few hours later grandpa brought his wagon. Mary got into it and they drove away. Mary was very happy to go to the town. After they left Johnny was alone with grandma. In the afternoon, Johnny cried bitterly and told grandma that he killed the goose and buried it in the backyard. He further said, "Grandma, when I will be old, I will purchase for you the whole field filled with goose." Grandma heard everything and took him in her arms, kissed him and said, "don't worry about the goose." The burden of guilt was lifted away from the heart of Johnny.

When Mary came back from the town, she was happy but Johnny was happier than her. After dinner Mary called Johnny and told him to do the dishes and clean the table. Johnny refused. Mary said, "what about the goose?" Johnny said with loud voice, "what about the goose?" He was not afraid of the goose anymore because he got forgiveness for his mischief from grandma herself.

Guilt of your sins may be haunting you badly. And the burden of sin may be unbearable for you. Today you may be in a situation like Johnny. Come to Jesus. There is forgiveness of sin. He will lift your burdens and will give you peace that this world cannot give. For the very reason He came in this world and died for our sins so that we could get forgiveness of our sins and live in peace. Jesus said in Mat 11:28, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Come to Him, He is ready to forgive your sins and ready to take away your guilt, heavy load of burden that you are carrying. He will fill you with His peace.

Memorial Day - Remembering Soldiers

By Sherly Isaac

Every year in USA 30th May is observed as memorial day. On this day we remember those fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Apostle Paul calls a believer as soldier. We read in 2 Tim 2:3-4, "You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one who is engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, so that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier."

Life of a soldier is different from others. A soldier has to live a disciplined life and obey his commander even when he had to face death. A soldier of Jesus Christ is not different from any ordinary soldier. As a soldier of Jesus Christ it is necessary to live a disciplined life and obey our commander Jesus Christ. Let us look from the Bible three faithful soldiers of God whom God used mightily for His glory because they obeyed their commander and lived according to His will.

There was a man named Stephen whom disciples chose to serve the table and be a helper in church kitchen. But he was not limited to that work. Bible tells us that, "Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.( Acts 6:8)" When he preached and many signs and wonders took place, some people did not like it. So they started disputing with him. In the 10th verse Bible says, "And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke."

Stephen was a man of faith and was full of power. He was even ready to die for the truth. Those people gathered a few false witnesses against Stephen saying, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God." So Stephen was taken before the council of high priest. In the 6th and 7th chapter we read a long sermon of Stephen. At the end of his sermon he said, "You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, "who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it. (Acts 7:51-53)"

Further Bible says, "When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.(Acts7:54-55)"

Stephen was killed by those people because he preached the truth and because he stood firm for his faith in Christ. Even when he was facing death he was not afraid to speak the true word of God.

A true soldier of Jesus Christ will preach the true message of Jesus Christ. Today there are many who preach but not from the Bible but the twisted theology of men.

Once Peter was caught and thrown in jail because he was preaching the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. But he was not afraid. When he was asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?" He was not afraid to say that he was preaching by the mighty name of Jesus, which is above all names, whom they crucified. Even in that situation he proclaimed the saving power of Jesus Christ.

If we look at the life of Moses, we can see how he was not even willing to go and deliver the Israelites. But God called him and sent him to stand before Pharaoh. Not only God sent him but told him what to do in every step. Because Moses obeyed God and did what God told him to do, he was successful in his ministry. Every time when Moses faced a crisis, he ran to God and asked Him, “what to do now?” He got the solution for himself and for the people from heaven.

Today there are many who do not even bother to ask God. But God has a plan and a purpose for every person's life. If you have not known that specific plan for your life then how could you fulfill it?

A soldier of Christ will know the will of God and act on His will. A soldier of Christ will hear the voice of God and obey His voice. Are you a soldier of God? Are you listening to His voice and obeying Him? Do you know the perfect plan of God? If not, turn to God and ask for His will in your life. If you want to do an effective ministry, you must obey His voice and do His will.

Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 8th Dec.. 2015

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
