Rabi Maharaj writes in his biography "Death of a Guru" how Jesus saved his life when he called upon the name of Jesus. It is very interesting and miraculous. Rabi was brought up by his stanch Hindu mother. But his grand mother had read the Bible and believed in Jesus. Because of her faith in Christ, she was persecuted by her husband and very often she was thrown down the stairs. Because of that she suffered a great deal of pain and was crippled. But she never failed to teach little Rabi about the love and the delivering power of Jesus Christ. Once Rabi was vacationing at his aunt's ranch and was enjoying nature. One day as he was walking, he heard a rustling sound behind him. He turned quickly to see what it was and to his horror, he saw a large snake coming directly towards him. He desperately wanted to run but felt paralyzed and could not move. He says in his book, 'In that moment of frozen terror, out of the past came my grand mother's voice, repeating words I had long forgotten: "Rabi, if ever you're in real danger and nothing else seems to work, there's another God you can pray to. His name is Jesus."'In that desperate moment when death was dancing on his face, he tried to yell, "Jesus, help me!" But the desperate cry was chocked and hardly audible. As soon as he cried out to Jesus, the snake turned around and quickly wriggled off. He stood there in astonishment, breathless and was still trembling. He was filled with wonder and gratitude to this amazing God, Jesus. Yes, there is a God who hears our cry and answers our prayers. Bible tells us about God's promise in Psa 91:15, "He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him." Also in Psa 50:15, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me." Are you in need today? Are you going through troubles and do not know where to turn to or thinking, “who can help me in this situation?” Turn to Jesus, call upon His mighty name and He will answer you. He will deliver you and bring you out of your troubles.
Call upon Me, and I will answer you!
Psa 91:15, "He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him." My high school exam was fast approaching and so I was studying late at night. At that time we lived in a small town which was surrounded by mountains and forests. One night everyone were fast asleep except me. I heard as if someone is walking in the big hall just attached to my room with heavy boots on. The sound became louder and louder as it came nearer. I thought someone broke in the house. I started panicking and immediately turned off the light of my table lamp and rushed to my bed. I pulled as many bed sheets as I could and covered myself with it except my eye area. Light was on in the hall and from the door of my room I could see what was going on outside. The sound resembling walking with boots became much louder by this time. I was holding my breath and looking outside of my room, not knowing who there may be. I was scared. A few moments later I saw one big cat trying to catch a snake. When the cat tried to catch the snake's head, the snake lifted its head upward and when its head fell to the cement floor it sounded like someone walking with heavy boots on. I realized that it wasn't any human being. It was a great relief for me so now I started screaming, Papa, Mummy... there is a snake in the hall. Hearing my scream my parents rushed to my room and started asking what happened? Because of the commotion the cat ran away and the snake entered in one of the racks of cooler. The rack was tightly fitted with twisted ropes so that the snake was completely hidden from our sight. We banged the rack with rods and sticks but it had no effect on the snake. Finally boiling water was poured in the rack and then only it came out of it. The moment I screamed for help my parents were there to help me. In the same way there is a God who is just a scream away from you. More than your parents, more than your friends, more than your relatives, He cares for you and loves you. He wants to help you and wants to pull you out of all your troubles. When the Israelites came out of Egypt, there was no one to help them, provide for them and to take care of them except for God. It is amazing how God walked with them, provided for them and carried them in His mighty arms. Moses describes in Deu 1:31 'and in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.' He is a loving and caring God who wants to carry you in His mighty arms. Are you willing to give all your cares and cast all your worries on Him? He will take care of you and will give you peace.
Standing in the Gap - Fasting prayer on 12th Aug. 2008
As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 12th Aug. 2008
