2 Cor 4:7-10, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body." Paul tells of his experience of hardship in his ministry, but at the same time he recalls the faithfulness of God when he faced such hard and bitter times. He tells that though there were situations when he could have been destroyed or completely crushed, yet he prevailed. This is the hope of a believer in Christ. Being a follower of Christ is not an easy task, but it is the way of the cross. It is the way of hardship, torture, persecution, despair, perplexity and sorrow. But God is faithful. If you are a child of God, He will uphold you with His righteous right hand and He will walk with you in times of trouble. In the most dark hours of your life, He will not allow you to be crushed or destroyed. But those who do not trust in Christ have no hope in their lives. Once I heard a tragic story. There was a young man who lived in south India. He was a hard working laborer. He took some loan and planted a banana garden and arranged for the marriage of his marriageable sister. Banana plants started growing and soon fruits were on the trees. He was happy and was seeing a bright future for himself and for his family. One day heavy storm and rain came and destroyed the whole banana plantation. When he saw the devastation, he knew immediately that he was doomed because he knew that he could never be able to pay the loan back and may not be able to give dowry for his sister's wedding. He was so devastated that he could not bear the pain and committed suicide. He killed himself because there was no hope for him. But not so with those who trust in the Lord Jesus Christ because they know that God will make a way for them, rescue them and sustain them in times of trouble. I know this from my own experience that God will not leave nor forsake His children who walk in His holy ways. There were times when we thought, "that's it, we are finished..." but every time God came to our rescue when we were in the most critical times of our lives. Today you may be going through terrible problems, sicknesses, sorrows or bearing unspeakable burdens in your heart and may be not knowing what to do or where to turn? Let me tell you that suicide is not the answer to your problems but turn to Jesus. He is the answer to your problems, your sicknesses and your sorrows. He can help you to come out of your troubles.
It was in the 90's when we were doing a small ministry and had great burden for the perishing souls. The events which took place that day and weeks before shook us badly. I knelt down beside my bed to pray in our covered verandah where we used to sleep in hot summer nights. Tears streaming down my cheeks I cried out to God. A few moments later God opened my eyes and I saw a vision so clear as if I was seeing it before my eyes. I could see the boundary wall of our house and the secure iron gate. A few moments later one saffron clad sadhu came to the gate and started opening the latch of gate. He tried his best to open it but could not. As I was watching and wondering, why he could not open the gate as even a child could open it easily. I saw Jesus in bright white cloths, standing inside the boundary wall putting both His hands on the latch. In a split second I knew why that person could not open the gate. It appears that when I saw Jesus at the exact time he also could have seen Jesus, and he was blown up in pieces. I could see small fragments of saffron cloths etc. scattered around our gate. The vision ended there but for many months I could not really understood the real meaning of it. A few months later, one morning I woke up late and tea was already cold. I put my tea on stove to reheat it. While I was sipping my tea and chit-chatting with my brother and sister, my mother got very angry and said, "Because you wake up late we have to do our family prayer very late in the morning.... are you coming or not, I am going for prayer in prayer room." So saying she climbed up the stairs to go to the prayer room. When she climbed half way and looked outside from lattice, she saw a man who parked his bicycle in front of our gate and was walking up to three homes to the right side and three homes to the left side of our house. My mother was shocked and ran to us and said, "don't open the door, there is a man outside.." So we went upstairs and looked from the trellis and he was still walking around our house. He made sure that no one was watching him and then he opened the gate and came inside. As soon as he came inside, my sister asked, "Who are you and whom do you want to meet?" The man was wonderstruck, looked towards the lattice and in confusion he could not speak anything. Then he mumbled something and left our house. On that day we realized how close we were to death. Just one knock and we would have opened the door and it would have been the end of our stories, but God miraculously saved our lives. The vision became real for us. I can say that it was the first or second attempt to take our lives or may be the first time we realized that our lives were in danger. But several similar attempts were made on consequent days, months and years. Yet God saved our lives in a very miraculous way. If God was not standing at our gate, we would have been destroyed at that time. David says in Psa 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." All these years God has been our refuge and strength. He never allowed the enemy to take over and destroy our lives. He stood at that time by our gate and I believe, He is still standing to protect our lives from all evil and danger. Yes, God can protect you more than any security system we may have in this world. Today you may be afraid of your safety but submit your lives to Jesus, He will take care of you and protect you and keep you secure.

As the Bible says in Ezekiel 22:30 "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it." And also the Bible says in Numbers 16:48, "And he (Aaron) stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped." We have fasting prayer every second Tuesday of each month. Our next fasting prayer meeting will be conducted on 16th Nov. 2015
